The restaurant is smack in the heart of Glen Ellyn right by the train rail so true fans may even see a big train pass by while you're eating too! The inside is maybe not the cleanest and it is TIGHT quarters, I struggled to get my stroller from one end of the restaurant to the other but this is a must stop for families in the area. read more

If you have a child who's in their train era, it's probably worth a visit. My daughter and l were heading to breakfast near our home and as we passed the Metra station, she asked if we could go on the train soon and that made me change course to head to this restaurant as a compromise. Service was not great. I mean, they checked on us a couple of times but overall was inconsistent. Really annoying was when a woman walked in with her son and kept trying to barge in front of people to put their name on the list after being told by some of those in front of her how it works (one of the servers would ask for their names to make sure that people were on the list in order). This woman went back to her space at the end of the line and not two minutes later breezed past the parties in front of her (there were at least three or four of us, separate parties) and claimed a table for her and her child. The food wasn't very good, and certainly not worth the cost. I think it was somewhere around $7 for a kid's hot dog + fruit? And nearly $14 for a BLT. I will give them credit for having the bacon well cooked when I asked for it crispy. There's a single entrance and exit, including a single ramp for both. If someone in a wheelchair or walker needed to come in, everyone in line would have to move to make room for them probably, so it doesn't seem the most friendly method for disabled folks. The restaurant has one of those mechanical horses for the kids as well as a few toy machines, all which take cash--though they don't have a machine for changing cash. In the year 2026 I almost never have cash (this visit wasn't an exception) so I'd urge you to bring some quarters for a horse ride. Luckily my baby wasn't too disappointed that the horse didn't move; she seemed happy enough that she got to sit on it and hold the reins. read more

Update: I surprised my granddaughter by bringing her here. Although the food is the same goodness, the service is now poor. We were not served utensils, and when I asked for some, the waitress brought 1 teaspoon and 1 fork, unwrapped, placing them plainly on the table. Also, the waiter placed us in a booth which has a bench with broken springs. It hurt my bottom! When I pointed it out to the waitress, she said she knew it was broken. Towards the end, I told the waiter who had placed us in that booth. He also knew about the broken bench, but didn't express any regret for putting us there. Not good. It's super entertaining for kids, food is delivered by model train to your tables, each dessert comes with a plastic train whistle and if there are less than 5 rounds of happy birthday sung while you are there - you're there on a slow night. I had a cheeseburger and milkshake both of which were solid! You must be prepared for noise - including kids blowing their train whistles over and over. But it's overall a fun night out with little kids. My only note is that because the train literally gives the visual cue to the wait staff to come to your table, service is a little lacking otherwise - if you need a napkin or water refill you have to be on the lookout for eye contact. read more

This is a review as a satisfied parent for making my kid's birthday dinner fun, exciting and memorable. My 4 year old son loved it here. I'd say he was a good age to be entertained here well. Any older, it might be okay, but it wouldn't be that thrilling. The food comes on a train. No matter where you sit, the train will always pass by your table. We chose to sit at the counter top so that my son can get a good view of the train. Some other tables are booths, so only the people closest to the counter can see it up close. The food was better than expected (I had 0 expectations). We got burgers. The burger meat was the smashed burger type, the thing meat you'd expect to see at maybe .. steak and shake? The burger was not bad, but we were mostly just there for the train. My kids were taking a bathroom break when our food chugged its way to us. But the friendly staff was kind enough to let it sit there until they came back so they could see it. My son's favorite was the happy birthday song they played everytime the train sent out a little cupcake for someone's birthday. He especially loved the "Toot toot!" sound made in the middle of each song. Kids get a little cupcake with a toy whistle on top for their birthday! You're supposed to sign up online for the kids club. But I probably didn't do this early enough, didn't get an email yet. But again, they were kind enough to still let my son have this for his birthday. This is a very kid-friendly restaurant. Golly, I'm not sure how to rate this place. First, I would say there's no real point going here unless you have kids. There's an electric train that brings food to your table, and that's the big draw. It's unique and amusing. The food is fine. It's typical diner fare. Burgers and fries. I liked the onion rings more than the fries. The menu isn't very big. Your kids will get a kick out of it. You'll leave with a headache from all the kids blowing the free train whistles they get with dessert. If your kids love trains, this is a must-visit restaurant. If your kids are indifferent to trains, it's a fun diversion and probably worth a stop as a change of pace. If you're an adult, I don't see why you'd stop here - the food isn't noteworthy. Free parking is available after 6 in lots near the restaurant, but you'll have to feed a meter if you arrive before then. read more

This restaurant has been at this location for 12 years. They bring the tourism of downtown Chicago dining to the suburbs with their stylish interior and train track. Although they are currently not serving inside dining due to COVID restrictions they are still an entertaining place to see. So once you get back from the frills and into the eating experience you will be overjoyed to see they have a great menu of burgers and so much more! I ordered the double cheese burger. Sounds typical huh? Well, its not! These guys know a lot about flipping burgers I've got to say! Out of this world tasting grass fed beef patties on a fresh bun with all the trimmings. Their patties are cooked to perfection with some special secret to make the edges crispy and great tasting! And it comes with fries that are also delicious. Kids and husband love this place. We were staying in Chicago for a week for vacation and this is where we ate dinner the first night in town. We arrived at 7 and there was no one else there- they close at 8. My 3 kids had been cooped up in the car all day so they were able to get up and move around and the staff didn't mind at all. The waitress was friendly and stood and talked to us while we waited for our food. The food was quick and hot, typical diner food, but it tastes great. The fries were really good! The atmosphere was fun, music was decent and there was plenty to look at. If we are ever back this way I'm sure we will go there again! read more

While this place is cute and has a lot of potential, I just couldn't get past the general filthiness of this restaurant. This place caters to children and therefore should pay extra attention to the cleanliness and upkeep. Our servers were friendly and efficient, but we were served by three of them. Very confusing. Servers' uniforms looked like they needed to be washed long time ago. I had hard time ordering because the menu overall and especially the kid's section is just full of fried junk. There were no healthy options or anything that might represent a balanced meal. The burger and fries that we ordered came out relatively quickly but it was so bland and average. The ketchup bottle was covered in oily fingerprints from the previous diners, the crevices of our booth seats were full of trash and crumbs. Yuck. Even though my son enjoyed spending time at this restaurant, I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there. This place is fun! Our three littles loved watching the train move around the restaurant, delivering food as it went. Fairly simple concept, but a great overall experience. I have to write a review about the spring salad, which was $12 and had about to $1.50 worth of ingredients. I left absolutely starving. It was maybe $.20 of canned mandarin oranges a dollar of lettuce, three cherry tomatoes and a couple slices of onion, which was $.10. They should've put avocado, cheese, cucumber something to make it close 12. I eat salads out all the time and I've never paid that much for a salad for so little food. You had to pay $3.50 to get chicken on top and it's no stretch a $17 salad with chicken. The salad should be $7 dollars tops without the meat and then $12 with the meat that's reasonable. Or call it aside salad for six dollars. It was put in a big bowl, but it was sparsely populated with lettuce and I'm ravenous now. read more

So much fun with a 4 yo granddaughter. Our waitress was outstanding and was very attentive to our little one.

This place was perfect for the birthday boy I was with. It was very busy but he got to ride the horse and win prizes from the machines while we waited. The food is basic burgers, but very tasty, and hot dogs and yes a little expensive but worth it for the experience. The shakes were excellent! Seeing his face when the train brought the food was priceless. The people working there are efficient and very nice. As busy as it was they were on top of everything. This is the cutest place I've ever seen for the kids. I came to try the food I've been hearing sooo many good things about. Let me just share my son and I ordered double cheeseburgers and fries . Everything was fresh and delicious. Super cheesy omg I will definitely send any and everyone. I will definitely be back. There was a young lady by the name of Kaitlyn who was amazing. We had lunch at 2 Toots Train Whistle Grill on a Saturday and were blown away by the experience - A+! Despite having received less-than-stellar recommendations from a few friends and family members we decided it was time to give this place a try. I have been to an identical-themed place when I was a kid (no idea as to the name or location) and I remember having a great time. We arrived just before the lunch rush and snagged a seat at the bar - exactly where the action is! They have an indoor stroller parking area and booster seats available to strap onto the stools so no need to bring your own. Sitting at the counter provides the kids a up-close view of the trains as they circle around and deliver food. What's great about this is that it keeps them occupied and focused while they munch, no need to entertain! What's even better, however, is the food. Again, we were cautioned that it isn't very good but we found the exact opposite - the food is great! Not only are the burgers and hot dogs grass fed beef but they are of generous size and taste delicious! We had a cheeseburger, a double cheeseburger, a bowl of chili, kid's chicken nuggets, fries, and a strawberry shake and everything was top notch. The flavor explosions on my tongue have been unrivaled recently and the portion sizes are rather substantial. We even saw a guy next to us get the hot dog and it is truly a jumbo! To top it off, the staff is very friendly and accommodating from when you walk in the door to when you pay your bill. They genuinely seem to have you and your meal front-of-mind, they want to ensure you have a pleasant experience. If you want a meal with entertainment provided and a classic burger/hot dog and fries then I highly recommend 2 Toots.
