Happy Hour/Day Drinking/Bar Crawl Stop #2 I remember this place as being real hoity-toity when I was in high school. It still kinda is, but I'm a grown up now, and if my friends and I want to drink at the bar in tee shirts, then so be it. They actually have a great happy hour here. Several $7 cocktails, although none with rum for my forlorn friend. I had an amazing cocktail called Popper's Fuzzy Bubbles. It was fun and fruity and made with Ketel One and Elderflower liqueur. Ooh, I'm so fancy! Not only do they have several $7 cocktails, but also several $7 bites. We did not plan to stay that long here because we had more bar crawling to do. As the bartender was busy talking to the staff. when he did come over gave us the menu. I'm here from out of town trying to meet up with my office from Another state. I know it's busy and know it's full but I didn't know the name my party was under and when I asked to be able to go in and find them they wouldn't let me in. My team has their phones off bc they are having dinner. A dinner I was supposed to be having with them. I've eaten and reviewed on Google some Of the top Steakhouses in the nation. This is one of those spots that thinks it's more than it is. The service is hit or miss. For example, when the bartender approached, I said a cheery "Hi! How are you?" His response was to put down to menus and walk away without comment. He didn't respond to any of our "thank yous" either. The price on the menu was $3 per drink less than we were charged. Around the corner from my friend's office is 220 Merrill so, it was a short walk away and we wanted to go to a good happy hour. Only available in the bar area, the happy hour menu has tons of $8 drink options and $8 plates. They have a sangria that is served in a giant wine glass, and it was very tropical and pretty strong. My friend got the Fuzzy Bubbles and it came to the table actively bubbling; she let me try it and I loved it. It's peach-forward with some fizz, and it's what I got next. My friend knows I love me some fresh tuna, which is part of the reason why she brought me here: their tuna tartare was phenomenal. It's a stack of diced ahi tuna, cucumbers, avocado, and sweet ponzu sauce served with crispy wontons. The happy hour tuna tartare isn't as big as the regular menu one but it was still very filling! We also got the sweet and spicy calamari, which was tender with just the right amount of sweet sauce. It wasn't spicy to me, but I like spicy so maybe ask the server lol. 220 Merrill gives me fun brunch vibes with the beautiful decor, table-side bubbly bar (you gotta look that one up!), and bumping music, and I'd love to return for that with girlfriends. I have come here numerous times over the years especially in the past when I owned a business in the adjacent building. It has been a few years and suggested we come for lunch to celebrate a birthday. The interior is beautifully decorated and pleasant. We asked for the house wine but the waiter acted like that wasn't a choice and stated particular wine choices which turned out to be quite pricey. He should have given us time to look at a wine menu. Everything felt rushed so we slowed things down to a more relaxed pace. We ordered 2 of the filet tip pappardelle, the shrimp scampi linguine and the Scottish salmon. All were very good and nice plate presentation of the salmon. It was noted that some offering of bread on the table could have been given. No complimentary birthday dessert so we ordered off the menu the chocolate soufflé. It was a beautiful presentation and tasty but not really worth $22. Afterwards I ordered Spanish coffee and we agreed that it was one of the best we ever had and it was so good someone else ordered it too. All in all it was a good experience but a bit overpriced comparative with other similar restaurants nearby. read more

We went for brunch and I got the breakfast sandwich with potatoes on the side. The sandwich was really good and the cheese in particular stood out: I would order it again. The potatoes were alright, but I'd try the fruit cup next time. A Yelp check-in got us a free dessert, which was lava cake. The cake was great and so was the ice cream. Our waitress did a great job and maintained conversation with us. The location is great also: lots of good scenery ranging from Ferraris to people walking by. I've been to 220 4 times and had quite a mixed experience. First off- the truffle fries are AMAZING!! I definitely believe the lunch is better than the dinner. At lunch there were a variety of dishes I enjoyed, but at dinner it was hard to find something appetizing. The pizzas were undercooked and the sliders were very dry. However, the cotton candy is a very fun novelty for special occasions. Also, I must say that I've had bad experiences with the waiters. There was 8 of us and Bill was $420 for a brunch. That's quite hefty. Upon arrival we asked if we could be seated outside since it was so beautiful that evening but unfortunately we had to request that ahead of time but no biggie, inside was beautiful too. Our server was great and so was the food. We got the tuna tartare and shrimp apps to share, salmon and bronzini entrees and shared that as well. Everything was great expect for the shrimp cocktail in my opinion; it was a little too pricey for what you get and the cocktail sauce was too strong. Exceeded my expectations, by far! As I was visiting Detroit, I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting great food. ( coming from NYC, DC, and Atlanta). I must say, never judge a book by its cover! This restaurant was amazing! Mind you, 220 is in Birmingham which is located outside of Detroit but is definitely worth the drive! The ambiance was elegant, the servers were attentive, and quality of the food was top notch. I had the eggs Benedict with shrimp, and it was one of the best I've tried to date. They didn't take high measures for COVID-19 to me and menu wasn't what I expected which is the only reason I didn't give a 5 star. A very nice pretentious restaurant. Very busy on the weekend and it's a vibe of who is showing off their car at the valet. The food is good and is very expensive. Appetizers are plentiful. The calamari is good but a small portion for $18. The soups are great and so are the Caesar salads. Wine glasses are $12-$18 for normal grapes. Cheeseburger can be very good with the fries but once again they are very pricey. Shrimp cocktail was a nice touch. Overall dinner cost about $325 for four people. I tipped 20 percent. Service is adequate but sometimes it can be slow because of how busy the eatery is. The outside is more accommodating. The inside of restaurant is packed to the rafters which makes it very uncomfortable. Outside seating is great! Inside eatery is packed, hot, tables on top of each other. Horrible seating! Their appetizers are typically good as well (calamari) and the ambience is great. However, service could be much better for this establishment. Where do I begin? Wine was poured into a chipped glass. I almost cut my lip. Brought it to the attention of our waiter, he took it away without any apologies. Brought another glass and accidently hit me by reaching over me, again - no apologies. There were 3 of us and we all ordered salads and appetizer. Food was brought for my friends but not me. Had to call the waiter and inquire about my food. When it finally arrived, I was hit again and you guessed it - no appology. Finally, when asked for a check, the waiter grabbed it the second we signed for it while we're still sitting there and finishing our wine. No manners whatsoever. Very disappointed. read more

We ordered many items: Lobster Roll - 3 and very good, not wet by any means, crispy bread for the sandwich and nice chips. Carbonara Flatbread - Best flatbread I've ever had and I've had them in 6 of the 7 continents. Fruity Pebbles French Toast - Great presentation and very nice with the mousse. More strawberries would be a nice touch. Truffle Fries - I asked for very well done, BROWN!, and they rushed them out for no reason what soever and they were not crispy.
