So, Beacon Hill is an amazing neighborhood in the heart of downtown Boston as it is, but the 21st Amendment has been it's staple "watering hole" for as long as I can remember. As a Suffolk University Alum, this was one of my first "hot spots" in the city as a college student. But don't get me wrong, this isn't necessarily a college-student bar. The crowd draws a mish-mash (appropriate for the Bean as we are most commonly referred to as a "melting pot" city) of neighborhood locals, young professionals, undergraduate/graduate students, and just all around chill, cool people. Which leads me seamlessly into my next point--their amazing staff. The crew there is unstoppable. Whether the bartenders are (pardon my french) shit-storm busy or have a chance to chat up the guests, they are always rockin' it. The waitresses could run circles around me and I'm a pretty fast lady myself. But the food and drink is one like no other. I live in the North End, so clearly, I don't NEED to travel to Beacon Hill for dinner or snacks or even an after work bev but I do for multiple reasons. Consistency. It's always delicious and perfectly prepared, they make my annoying modifications without hesitation (dietary/allergy restrictions), and offer an array of upscale bar bites that are hard to find anywhere else. Along with the rest of my friends, I'm an unofficial sweet potato french fry connoisseur and the 21st Amendment's are KILLER (yes, capitalization was necessary here). So if you haven't been in yet--DO IT. And if you have--GO BACK. And if you're a regular, like I've come to be known as, keep on doin' what you're doin' because it's just the right thing to do! Cheers! read more

As a Delaware-ian who has spent years traveling the eastern seaboard as a sales representative and ambassador for POP Yacts LLC, it is safe to say I have found myself in my fair share of bars. Rarely do I gain such an appreciation for an establishment and its respective city as I did when I visited 21st Amendment in downtown Boston, MA. Once my eyes adjusted to the dimly lit tavern, I was immediately greeted by Haley, a delightful young woman who fixed me up with my drink (a well-poured Guinness) promptly, providing exquisite service. Next, the food: the sliders waxed poetic, if you will, providing the ideal combination of the critically acclaimed Bostonian-ruggedness, accompanied by exceptional flavors and textures. Subsequent to my food rendezvous, I returned my attention to beverages. Again, Haley was ready to assist with a smile and a hop in her step--a far cry from the malaise attitudes assumed by staff in the surrounding bars--before serving me a delicious Old Fashioned. Overall, time spent at 21st Amendment is time well spent, and with the exceptional staff, food and drinks, I eagerly await my next trip to Boston. I just hope I remember my winter coat next time! read more

One of the best places for a brew... anytime of day Absolutely love 21st Amendment. Allagash is on draft - need I say more? The crowd is always solid - no pretentious uppity people - just high quality solid Bostonians. Regardless the time of day you can be guaranteed great service and an enjoyable experience. Friday nights it is a great stop for the downtown area - and often lacks the college crowd (huge plus for me - so over that) that you can find in Fan Hall. A lot of legislative aides and people from the State House frequent happy hour - and I prefer here to Beantown Pub any day. A fast walk from Park Street T stop leaving you able to head into any other part of Boston through either the green or red line. Beers range from the $4 to $6 range but are not limited to Bud/Coors. A must visit - maybe you will even catch me there. read more

stopped by here while visiting Boston. Figured I'd give it a chance since it is in historic beacon hill, right across from the state house, and have heard it is where JFK used to frequent and write his speeches. (It's true.) I wasn't disappointed. I was immediately welcomed by not just the amazing service but also the "regulars" who made me feel like a regular myself! I ordered a whales tale pale ale (from sisco brewery, Nantucket) which they always have on draft, along with other options from this brewery. I also had the buffalo chicken wrap, which was delicious! I ended up staying for hours and had an amazing time meeting many locals. I can see why people spend so much time here. Couldn't say one bad thing about this place. I will definitely be back! :) read more

The original CHEERS! This place is a hidden gem right next to the State House. Super-friendly waitstaff (Cy, the bartender, remembered me AND my drink after one time!) and very laid back, cozy tavern-type atmosphere. I've been here a couple times by myself & always ended up meeting someone interesting to talk to. Outgoing & unusual crowd mix - everyone from politician's & after work prof's., to local residents and a smattering of suffolk students hang out here - all just looking to enjoy themselves. Some article on the wall says JFK used to write speeches here - if they served the same lunch specials as they do now, I can see why it was his favorite hangout! I'll definitly be back. read more

JFK probably preferred this place over the Omni Parker bar, for obvious reasons. 21st Amendment is the modern day Cheers. With great food, music and people, I have never failed to have a great time. They really do have some of the best bar food in Boston here. The pulled pork grilled cheese really tickles my fancy. I am always curious as to what the drink special is going to be, because they are all so good. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed so it's a good spot to come with friends and colleagues. The staff is super friendly too. I would recommend this place for Boston tourists who want to experience what a real Boston bar is all about. read more

Was suggested to try this place out by a friend. My first reaction when I walked into the 21st amendment was it was a little dark, but the bar had a nice cozy atmosphere and I loved the Christmas lights they had strung. a waitress walked by with a burger that had a tower of onion rings on it that looked amazing, as I soon found out it was the 21st burger. I sat at the bar and proceeded to order one. It was amazing, as well as the pear ginger martini I had. The bartender was very friendly. Even though it was busy she still made sure she talked to everyone. I would definitely make it a point to come back and recommend this place to anyone! read more

Stumbled upon this place last week while strolling around Beacon Hill. A friend and I sat down for a late lunch and ended up staying all night! For apps we started with buffalo chicken nachos and they were insane... fresh guac and tons of sour cream. She got their signature "21st burger" and I got a tuna melt. Both meals were absolutely to die for. We later moved to the bar and ended up staying all night enjoying the awesome sangria that they had just made in front of us. The staff was extremely friendly and comforting. Even with the place being packed, we were checked on frequently. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area! read more

I went to this restaurant for the first time. I ordered one drink. A couple of dude's sat n to me shortly after me ordering my drink... They were overly racist... so I straight up asked them if they were racist... they brought the white male bartender onto the conversation... when I finished my drink... I went to the bathroom... when I cam back... the racists were gone and the racist white man bartender refused to serve me... despite the fact that I had my first drink of the night there.... I hate living in a racist city... but this place... seems to only like white people! read more

I have been to this establishment several times for different occasions- my 21st birthday, a casual lunch after a doctors appointment, and for just a cold beer and a snack. No matter the occasion the staff was Always amazing, greeting every patron with a great smile. The lighting and music is always just right. The food is great whether you want a sit down meal or a bite at the bar (I highly recommend the nachos by the way - delicious!!) Every time I head to Boston the 21st is always a must - stop for me. I highly recommend trying it if you've never been. read more

I loved the feeling and vibe of the area - it was like I could feel the spirits of our forefathers discussing the fortune of our nation on a great lager right in that pub (I'm certain that they'd be rolling over in their graves if they saw what's become of their fledgling nation now lol). Lots of dark wood/beams (all first I believe) low ceiling, smaller with 2 seperate rooms. Great bunch and great beer selection. Bartenders are cool as hell, a good deflection away from the pubs full of insane school people in this city... read more

My friend and I adore 21st! We live right next shop and it is our fave area pub! The setting is very good for beverages with friends as well as the food is also tasty. Our favorites are the chili, steak tips, buffalo bids, and sweet potato chips. The buffalo attendants are so filling we can just complete them along with our entrees! We have not attempted the nachos yet but I hear they're the finest about. We constantly brings friends and family in...definitely check it out. read more

My boyfriend and I wanted a casual place to eat in Beacon Hill and found this place on Yelp. This is definitely a cool little place, I wouldn't bring a huge party in there, but it's a nice little place with a cool ambiance. The drinks were delicious( and strong, which i guess makes them delicious) and my food was great! I got the tuna melt and my boyfriend got a turkey club. The food was great. Definitely a chill little place to grab some casual food & drinks. read more

Wow, I dislike this place so intensely it's hard to collect my thoughts !! It is way over crowded (seems way over the fire limit!!) LOUD and full of young prats trying to get laid- really smarmy gross guys, really gross touchy gross, gross guys I don't care what other 'pluses' there may be, although I fail to see what they could possibly be, this place is the worst!! !!!!!!Did I mention the GROSS guys!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Love the 21st Amendment! The atmosphere felt like we were back in Ireland. The waitress was friendly and informative about the menu. The 21st Amendment is also in the heart of Boston with so much history and sight seeing. We actually went to the swan boats then stopped in to eat. The food was just what we were looking for and there was something for everyone. We would highly recommend 21st!!!! Laura Kelleher read more

This is such an amazing spot! My boyfriend and I were in Boston for the night and wanted to grab a drink before heading back to the hotel. We walked in and instantly loved the atmosphere. The drinks were good and food was even better. I couldnt make up my mind (as always!) My waitress suggested the short rib grilled cheese. It was phenomenal! Couldnt have asked for a better spot to end our night. read more

The 21st Amendment is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is top-notch. The waitresses were absolutely lovely--friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel special. And the food? Amazing. I had a great time at the 21st Amendment this Monday afternoon with Laura! The 21st burger is killer and the bar has the perfect "old Boston watering hole" setting. The warm air and inviting crowd definitely thawed the bones of this Mississippi native. I can't wait to come back and can't recommend this place enough. I'm bringing all my friends here! read more

This place is great and very cozy! Probably the best bar food I have ever had. You can't go wrong with the grilled cheese or ANY of the pizza's, not to mention the appetizers (steak and cheese spring rolls, YUMMMM). Definitely a good bar scene Friday and Saturday nights, and the music they play is up beat and fun. The staff is also very friendly! read more
