Reservations are essential, but do call ahead if you don't have one. That's what I did, and lucked out to get a table just as I was heading out the door in Winthrop. Our waitress was so friendly and welcoming. Truly felt like she embodied the Methow Valley welcoming committee. A good reminder that friendly and welcoming service - or a lack of it thereof - can make or break even the best meal. We started with their signature nachos with our cocktails. These were delicious, and smothered in queso sauce, pulled pork, bbq sauce, and a dollop of cole slaw on top. I tried the sliders for my main course, and others at the table ordered salads with proteins. There was a fabulous selection, perfect for a lighter meal. These were so bountiful that there was a nice portion to take home for lunch the next day. My trio of sliders were a little underwhelming. The rolls didn't seem same-day fresh and the meats were a little dry. I wanted something light; next time, I'll order a salad with a choice of barbecued meats. We didn't have any issues getting a table for 4 immediately with a walk in in early May, but sounds like from other reviews during peak summer season may need a reservation. Highlights were barbecue nachos, cornbread, brisket salad special, and ribs. Lots of good cocktail options + whiskey/bourbon if that's your jam. Walked into a great atmosphere. The service was great and the vibe was awesome. I ordered some appetizers which were really great. Then came time for the main course. I ordered the half rack of ribs plate. Unfortunately it was not very good. Had to use a knife to separate them and they had good flavor but were extremely far from "fall off the bone". This is a place with great atmosphere, great people, and even some really good dishes. But when it comes down to it, the BBQ meats left me very underwhelmed. Staying for a couple of nights outside Winthrop. It happened to be the day of the "Stud Horse" fire. We watched the fire trucks go through town, the smoke billowing as we drove up to Sun Mountain Lodge, the winds pick up as the storm moved from the mountains to the east, the smoke cloud increasing, tankers, dropping from the air. But I digress. We were not happy with the food options in Winthrop. I had given up on trusting a place that could serve up a steak that I would be happy to pay for. The restaurants in Winthrop seemed to be manned (? womaned?) by young summer-job seekers. I said forget about it. Lets get something from the Sri Lankan food truck parked at TwispWorks while we charge the car. It was closed. Leaving the charging station disappointed and hungry, we came upon the 1908. Forgetting that I had originally been looking for a steak, I saw their Cubano and had to add it to my sample list. That and my wife's wedge salad were well prepared and very good. There was a wait for the Cubano but they were short one person who had to leave since he got the "go now" evacuation notice. We will be dinning in Twisp from here on. BTW we drove up to check out the fire scene and it was amazing how it appeared to consume everything and then there was a house standing untouched in the middle of the blackness. This was our first visit into this fine establishment. We were greeted by one of the owners and we sat at the bar and ordered an "old fashioned" and a local brewery tap IPA. The special of the day and my pulled pork nachos were absolutely amazing and everything was fresh and prepared well. Their bbq is cooked fresh daily and they take pride in everything they put on the table. We had a lime tart for dessert and the tart was also perfect. The 1908 has taken an older building and has made it the highlight of downtown Glover Street. This is our new "go to" place in town. We came here for dinner with high hopes, we were treated by the friendly hostess and seated. Our waitress came over and took our drink and dinner orders. She was friendly as well. Our drinks came out and they were strong and just what you expected for an old fashion. The food was then brought to us and explained what everything was along with the three different BBQ sauces. We ordered the pit master platter special $28 per person. It had pulled pork, pork ribs, chicken, hot pink sausage and brisket. It also came with 5 sides. Mac and cheese, fresh house made pickles, house made candied jalapeños, coleslaw and potato salad. Over all the meal was ok. The pulled pork and pork ribs were our favorite with great flavor and moist. The chicken was good as well but a bit dry, hot links were good as well. But the brisket was like my belt hard to cut let alone chew. We didn't even eat a quarter of it. The chef came and asked how we liked it and I was to intimidated to critique his food because you can tell his passion for it. When the waitress showed up we let her know and she said she would let him know. All the sides were good not spectacular. $56 for two people seemed a bit much for the quality of food. We have been wanting to go to this restaurant for sometime and finally treated ourselves out for a pre-Christmas celebration and it was absolutely fabulous in every way! We were excited to try the old-fashioned with smoke and wow, all of the flavors, and aromas were so complementary. We have coined this drink, the official drink of Twisp and will encourage all of our friends and family visiting to try it as we feel it really embodies the essence of Twisp. We also ordered the prime rib special with garlic herb crust, red wine reduction sauce, collard greens and mashed potatoes, excellent! 1908 Bourbon and BBQ catered my daughters wedding in Mazama. The food was absolutely delicious!! The smoked brisket was amazing, all the guests were raving about it. There was a small amount left over and it was gobbled up the next morning. Brisket on bagels. The BBQ Jerk Chicken was moist and so good especially with their golden BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese was also fabulous. After the reception I walked into the kitchen to find a bunch of young adults having bowls of it for a midnight snack. I am not always a big fan of potato salad but theirs was really good, not heavy and a nice amount of dill. If you need an event catered I highly recommend this place.
