New Trophy hanging in one of the hallways at Sun Mountain Lodge.

We've been to the Wolf Creek Bar & Grill in the Sun Mountain Lodge a few times; twice this year. Every time we've been there, the service has been excellent, especially the last two times, when we had Payton as our server. He is truly an asset to the Sun Mountain Lodge! The food is almost as good as the service. Yeah, people have written that it's a little pricey. Maybe. I mean, maybe the entrees are $1-$3 more than somewhere else. But you're not really going there for discount dining - you're going there for the amazing view. Plus, where else are you going to eat in Winthrop?!? Honestly, a burger at Sun Mountain Lodge is $17; one at the Old Schoolhouse Brewery is $13 or $14. That's not much of a premium. Anyway, our food was great, as usual. My wife had an excellent Twin Lakes (French) Dip ($17) and I enjoyed the Crab Louie bowl ($20). No complaints! Again, Payton was an excellent server. He recommended a great 'warmer' drink and the cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake was awesome, and I have to write that the warmer I had - the Monte Cristo with Baileys, Kahlua, Grand Marnier, coffee and whipped cream - was probably one of the best warm, alcoholic beverages I've ever had. We'll continue to make the Wolf Creek bar and grill in Sun Mountain Lodge a destination whenever we head to Winthrop!

Meatloaf Wellington. Yum!!!

First time to Sun Mountain Lodge and we tried the dining room but it was filled at 5pm opening by reservations. If you want a great view with dinner reserve your seat. If not you can dine in the bar and grill. Food is the same in either side. Susan the server was great. She was on the spot with everything and had a great personality. The food was fantastic. Meatloaf Wellington was excellent and every dish that floated by was well presented. Great place to eat but get there early.

This restaurant is located inside the Sun Mountain Lodge. I didn't stay there, but wanted to go for a nice lunch with a view. The food was okay, overpriced. The service was slooow! There were only two other tables at the time I was there and took over 30 mins to get my order, and after looking around for the server while watching two others servers talking and looking at me, I finally got up and had to ask for my check. Maybe a nice lodge, but definitely overpriced and slow service.

Went for lunch. Enjoyed the view. My wife and I both had Caesar Salads. She added Chicken to her's and I added Shrimp. They were very big salads made with fresh ingredients. The shrimp were huge and they gave me 6.

View is spectacular. Food is good. But $18 for a 6" pepperoni pizza, that looked like it came from a box in the freezer, is shameful.

The servers were incredibly kind and friendly, but the restaurant owner was a different story. We had a yummy basket of fries and a nice chat with our server. After receiving our pizza, both myself and my friend thought that the pizza tasted and smelled of cigarettes. The sauce was very acidic and chunky, and overall unpleasant to eat. We each tried one slice, I couldn't finish mine- before deciding that we really couldn't enjoy it. We let our server know as much and offered to pay for a half pizza/kids pizza (still paying as expected for the rest of our food/drinks), and he said that he would have to ask his supervisor about our request. When "JP" came out, it was clear he had been drinking. He became argumentative quickly- claiming that we just didn't understand how oven fired pizza was supposed to taste, that we were clearly trying to dine and dash, and eventually told us to just "see what happens" and to not pay and leave. He took a photo of us which we asked him to delete (he didn't- he posted us on the business Facebook page- see attached, I've removed my friend's face) and told us he could do "anything he wants" since he was the owner. In all of the breath he spent yelling at us, he could have offered a better solution, or just kindly told us there was nothing he could do. I asked the server if we could just pay and move on- he told us it was fine/on the house, and it seemed like dealing with a drunk for a boss wasn't out of the ordinary. I am sorry to see this kind of unprofessional behavior from someone who claims to have been in the restaurant industry over 30 years. Save your time and the headache and go to Meza or Three Fingered Jack's. We had an excellent experience and enjoyed the food immensely at both locations.
