Wings
Courtnay B.

Stopped in for dinner after hiking Cascades. Enjoyed wings and the burger. Wings were crispy and lean, just the way I like them (5 stars!). The burger was good, and the shoestring fries were amazing. It was too hot to sit outside by the water, but I bet that would be the best at to go if it were cooler. Really enjoyed this place and recommend if you're in the area.

Pass on the tri tip sandwich and go for the hamburger. Tables are very small on the patio. Be careful Great vibe on the patio. The servers need to get to know what kind of bushes (berries) are up against the railing. Get a full bar.

Great food, beer and service! Mexican street corn was fabulous. We enjoyed the patio by the river and the speedy service. Great selection of beer and tasty root beer.

Decent burger after a day spent hiking. This place was BUSY but service was decent and many people were willing to share tables as you find seating yourself and they don't have a ton of seating inside. Enjoyed the burger, had an interesting sauce I wasn't expecting but overall a solid choice if you're eating here!

Welcome to the gazebo.

A favorite stop winter, summer or fall usually after some kind of fun outdoor activity. We especially enjoy stopping in after a winter day of cross country skiing. We usually have a lot of company. It's a fun pub atmosphere with quality beer and simple food, mostly burgers, salads and sandwiches. Outdoor seating looking out at the river is terrific during the warm weather and there is a small stage for live music out back. Stop in for a Ruud awakening IPA with your new friends.

Cool spot in a cool town (old Wild West themed). It was getting hot out and we decided to duck in for some air conditioning and cold beer. It was right around lunch time and they were busy, but we found a seat and proceeded to the bar to place our order. We ordered a flight of beer to try some different styles. The bartender was great, even though she was busy.. I didn't have to wait long. The beers were good and the old schoolhouse motif was cool. They also have food, but we had just eaten lunch.. the food looked good. We would definitely come back for another beer and/or to try the food.

We stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The place was fairly crowded but it took quite a while to be acknowledged by anyone. Once we ordered it took about 45 minutes to get our food which seemed long. My husband got the steak sandwich and I got the Reuben. Both had good flavor but not very much meat. For $18 neither came with fries so we did order the garlic waffle fries on the side to split but we couldn't see or taste any garlic. The beers we tried were pretty good but I think we'll try something else next time we come to town.

Ask the Community - Old Schoolhouse Brewery

Are dogs allowed in the outdoor area?

No, but there are dogs available at the Taproom in Twisp or the Public House in Mazama

Is there a family friendly area or time where minors are permited? I understand it's a tavern, but remember the burgers were above average and would hate to miss the opportunity to grab lunch there because we have the kids.

Kids are allowed all the time in most of the space. No one under 21 is allowed in special area near the bar.

3.5 stars here. Multi decade saloon in Winthrop with westernish style and decor. Full bar with TV…read moreand pool tables. Not busy during our visit. Typical pub style menu with a few surprises. The prices truly seem very reasonable here. I am a sucker for a good homemade meatloaf and the have one on the menu so that's was my choice this time. Beef & pork, wrapped in bacon then smothered with beef gravy and grilled peppers and onions. Sides of mashed potatoes and green beans studded with bacon pieces. The meatloaf was top notch, not mushy with lots of flavor and the added deliciousness of the bacon. It was a unique presentation with the peppers and onions which went well with the loaf. The mashers were delicious but the generic gravy (also on the meatloaf) took away from the dish. And the beans were perfect. This dish at $22.00 is a real deal imo. My DW chose the crispy chicken salad which is one of her faves. Unfortunately, this was a disappointment. The greens and veggies were fresh and crisp but the chicken was more like a chicken flavored tofu. Mushy, with little to no flavor. Pretty close to inedible. It was almost all left on the plate. When i mentioned this to our server, she was very apologetic, telling me I should have told her immediately (my mistake) and then kindly took the cost off our bill. If you are in town looking for food or drink, we feel this is an option worth trying.

Jupiter is one of the best spots in Winthrop to dine at, if not, the best. Despite Yelp saying…read morethat this location is temporarily closed, we decided to still walk by and see if it was open and it indeed was. What a win for us, too, because the food was fantastic and exactly what we needed. We visited Jupiter for dinner on our first night in town and after a day of sunshine and hiking, we were hungry. At Jupiter, the menu isn't large, but they have a good range of items to choose from, in addition to local beers and wines. We were pleased that they had a large outdoor patio area where it's dog friendly, which is where we sat with our dog. You order and pay first inside at the counter, snag a number and a staff member delivers your food to the table. My partner and I both ordered different protein bowls and a salad and had a hard kombucha. My protein bowl was delicious with the steelhead as my protein of choice with rice, beans, jalapenos, greens, pickled red onions, avocado and a cilantro dressing. It was very filling, nourishing and delicious! The salad was also very good, with fresh greens in a light dressing. Everything was healthy and wholesome and left us satisfied. I highly recommend visiting Jupiter if you're in the Winthrop area for a meal. They have fresh, whole foods that are packed with protein and everything you need after a day of hiking. Plus, the patio for dogs cannot be beat as we learned that not everywhere in Winthrop has patio seating. Something to be mindful of if you're traveling with your best friend. I would definitely eat here again when back in the area.

We stopped here days before a Wildfire evacuated the area. It was so good that I want to leave this…read morereview for when they reopen. The originally-shaped fresh-potato French fries were superior, as was the garlic sauce for them. I gobbled them up with gusto. Without being able to eat spice, I asked the counter clerk what she would advise. A salad with their special chicken was fine for me. I will say that I am not in favor in general of pulled pork or similarly cooked meats, because the flavor is not as full as other preparations, so that was my one disappointment. The salad was spectacular with its fresh, tender lettuce and other veggies from the garden. The coffee cake dessert was marvelous. They do not have much space inside, but the huge deck area had spread-out tables. Minor problems for us old folks are climbing the stairs up to the cafe and parking close to those stairs.
