Friendly guy at the counter, not sure on his name but he was nice to talk to...maybe it was the infamous Dave everyone else seems to have had an issue with during the pandemic lol. Bonus points for the three dogs who greeted me when I entered - after a week without mine (traveling) it is always a plus when I get to pet dogs. This place was open on a Sunday and had ample wine selections for such a small town. Glad I stopped in as it made a slow Sunday with pubescent adolescents all the more bearable. read more

I have been a regular customer of the Wine Shed for several years but alas, no more. Dave never wears a mask but in other recent times I've been in the store, he has offered to put one on. His staff who work there (covering for Dave) have always put on a mask as soon as I enter the store, without being asked. But the last time I was in, Dave had no mask on. When I mentioned this, this time he didn't offer to put one on, sayhing instead that masks were not for him. I asked, "Well are you at least vaccinated?". He responded, "That's a pretty personal quesion." A personal question when you are running a public place?? I don't think so. I don't like wearing a mask. Who does? But I comply with the mandates for WA and all other stores I go into require that I wear one. I won't patronize a store where the owner seems to think he can do what he wants no matter what. Regretfully, I won't be coming back. read more

Good selection and the proprietor is helpful but I will not be returning. Front counter has plexiglass and he was not masked when we walked in but no one was in the shop so I get that. But he never masked up including when he came out to show us wines. In addition to violating state mandates it shows complete disregard for customers' well-being. Not returning. Too bad. It's a great shop. read more

This a great find in little Winthrop. Great selection of beer, wine and spirits, a lot of it not available in most other stores I've been to, including Seattle area. Beats other stores in the Valley for options by far. The owner is very helpful and they have super friendly pups that greet you! read more

New business (as of December 2014), next to Noca and Nordic Ultratune on riverside avenue. An excellent selection of spirits, decent wine selection and the beer selection is good (to compliment what you can get in supermarket, add belgian and porter styles). The bar features tastings of some spirits almost everyday. Check The Root for what is being offered. A nice addition to downtown winthrop! I look forward to seeing it grow and thrive. read more

I loved this little shop. The owner was very polite, professional and helpful. There was a certain bottle of liquor we were looming for and he said he would order it for us and have it in a week. The bonus was his sweet dogs that greeted us at the door. read more

The Wine Shed carries a very diverse selection of wine, beer and spirits from around the globe. Dave is a knowledgeable enthusiast of all types of drink. He definitely went above and beyond for us. He delivered our purchases to where we were staying last weekend because we didn't have our vehicle. read more

The good: close by for grabbing some milk and things you need just a couple items at a time to save the gas rather than going to Walmart, so it is a convenience having it close by. The bad: a lot of the things I normally buy at a grocery store are almost doubled in store. I have bought fresh seafood and it was bad. For instance, I bought 2 pounds of fresh shrimp the other day and it had a sell by sticker for the 11 July and I bought it on 3 July.. took it home put it in the refrigerator and on 5 July. My refrigerator stunk so bad it almost made us sick. I took the shrimp out and they were completely gone. 100% bad. I took them back up to the store right away, and I won't go into detail, but the manager and one of the checkers treated me almost like this was my fault. The checker smelled the shrimp that were in the paper bag, and in a plastic bag and almost threw up. And then got upset with me cause I had him smell them. And also commented this is the third time people have brought shrimp back this weekend.. the manager seemed awful upset with me and never even once apologized and made it seem like it was a hassle. I had to change them out. I will never buy seafood in that store again cause I've heard this multiple times from other people. I figure I spent my money up there, they could have at least respected me and not treated me so bad. So from now on I'll drive the extra few miles and go to Walmart for anything I need So bottom line: unless you don't give a crap about prices, this s store isn't the place to stop maybe just to get cigarettes maybe milk and they do have a subway in there if you need a sandwich but other than that, expect very high prices and this isn't just my opinion this is the talk of the town.

When he brought it back, instead of apologizing or taking responsibility, he was blamed for their mistake, even though they shared with him that other customers were returning the exact same batch with the exact same problem. The spoiled food was bad enough, but the rude, arrogant, and dismissive attitude from both staff and management was even worse. They showed zero concern for the quality of the food they were selling or for the customers who bought it. Apparently, admitting they were wrong was less important than treating paying customers with disrespect. If this is how they handle legitimate complaints, imagine how they handle the problems you don't catch. Spend your money somewhere that values its customers and stands behind the products it sells. In my opinion, you're far better off driving to Walmart in Chelan than risking your money or your health shopping here.

It soon became apparent that the older, grey haired, thin faced woman who works the till had a serious problem serving me. I went out of my way to make small talk and be friendly even though she always gave me the absolute creeps. She's one of these annoying, fake types that gives off bad vibes and just tries way too hard. The guys who work there, however, are awesome; very easy going and well... normal. Unfortunately, it was this woman who seemed to get most of the evening shifts which is when I would often stop by. I caught her more than once following me around the store and watching me like a hawk with her beady eyes. I'm not white and I'm very much aware of how certain white people treat people of colour in these small towns (hello Kelly Pocha). It was clear this woman has a problem with people of colour; she racially profiled me, criminalized me and harassed me from the start. After several months of shopping there, spending hundreds of my hard- earned dollars, she had the audacity to tell me last Monday evening, while I was paying for my purchases, that I had to leave my shoulder bag with her up front if I shopped there again. She said it was because "the owner said". Uh huh. Right. This is the best you can come up with? I smirked and said nothing. But then she started to quiz me about my bag, where I got it, what kind was it, just asking these inane questions while I was trying to leave the store. I wanted to laugh in her pointy pasty face then and there because she was just trying so hard to power trip. It was sad and gross. But you have to feel sorry for people like that because that's all they have. Obviously, this woman is a not too bright racist with a huge chip on her shoulder though so I'm leaving this review to warn other non-white patrons. If "the owner" reads these reviews, he may want to consider firing this old bat though because she's driving local business away. All you're going to wind up with is tourists who don't know any better. There's another woman of color who left a review stating she was also rudely treated when shopping here months ago. Hmm, wonder who the culprit was? Clearly this store is unfriendly, hostile even, to anyone not white and I think it all begins with who you hire to be the face of your place.

Our friendly server who ended up helping us the two times we came here was knowledgeable about all the drinks, so made perfect recommendations for us. I honestly can't say which is my favorite because they were all fantastic in their own way. Because we had our dog with us, we sat out on the patio, which was nice. On a sunny day, they even turned on the misters for us, which we appreciated and asked why more places don't offer this! Located in the main town area of Winthrop, it was walking distance to where we were staying and is near other restaurants and businesses. I'd love to visit again whenever I come back to the Methow Valley.
