My friend and I had such a delightful time here after the Winthrop Quilt Roundup last weekend. It was the place to see and be seen as dozens of attendees gathered for wine, snacks, and a chance to win all sorts of cool prizes from the Roundup. We sat on their lovely outdoor patio and enjoyed a bottle of grenache rose - which was 20% off for national grenache day. Score! It was a really nice, light rose, and the perfect accompaniment to the beautiful cheese and meat board the winery provided for the event. As the sun set, and our names (sadly) weren't called for prizes, we were happy we'd made the trek from downtown (don't worry, it's only about a 5 minute walk) to end the evening in style. Pretty livid about our experience on July 6. My wife and I stopped by with some friends to do a wine tasting. I'd previously enjoyed their Merlot and Rainshadow blend. Two tastings and two glasses of wine I paid for. I then extracted us to go grab a light snack while my wife collected our glasses. Come to find out, she then charged HER as well for two glasses of wine, knowing full well I had just paid for them. Worse, we brought our son with us and distracted him with an iPad. However, when we asked about WiFi, we were told there was none available - despite literally seeing its SSID. She saw out-of-towners, and figured she could scam a couple drinks out of us. And to be honest, that's the sentiment we got from a lot of places in the Methow. If you're visiting, you're not welcome. Great, we'll stay west of the mountains thank you very much. read more

Oh Winthrop! And this lost river! Everything in Wintrhop is minimal. One winery in town! One bar! One diner! One Mexican spot. One Brewery! And viola! One wineryyyyyyyyy! Oh and January is magic time. It is SO WHITE! So pretty! So magical! What else can one do but drink wine to warm up?? I mean! :D So surprise! I love wine! Italian wine, California wine, Washington wine! Even portugese wine! Cheaper than water that one. But yes, the wine scene here was just like this town. So laid back! Oh yea...the tasting is freeeeeeeeee! Did ya know? I didn't know. I didn't care how much it cost! Didn't even ask. I came, I saw, I spoke to the staff! I fed the puppy here! And I sipped in the snow covered winery cabin! Magic! For tasting: free tasting that is, you get 8 pours! 4 whites, 3 reds and a dessert wine. The white also included the pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc blend, chardonnay and the ice wine! Such a pretty sweet wine. For red: they are great. Malbec, few special house blends and so on. The dessert wine was tasty. Since it was free tasting, I decided to bring some home. 8 bottles that is :D You can buy their table red in whole food and some other stores. But that's about it. My partner and I came here for a wine tasting on a dreary afternoon and it was just what we needed. All of the wine tastings were delicious! I especially loved their Pinot Gris, Cab Sauv, and Library Selection! The vibe was very warm and homey, which I felt matched the small-town vibe. The person serving us was lovely and very knowledgeable! I don't think we paid for the tasting, just for the bottle we left with, which I thought was very generous since the wine was so good and worth the price. The reason I am giving them a two this time is not because of the wine but because of the service. We stopped in to have two tastings and would have purchased wine, if it was not for the service of the young lady who was at the counter today. she was so incredibly rude to us. We tried to make small talk with her but apparently she thought we were not worthy. She was entertaining another couple and therefore could not give us the time of day. We finally left. as we were leaving she served new people coming in the door red wine as a starter. And said I don't know why I am serving you red wine.. completely ignored us as we left. If I owned that place I would have fired her. She was talking with the other couple that was there about people who had come to the tasting room and how they were snooty. After leaving Etta's with my mini me and girlfriend in tow, my friend looked over to the left and saw that there was a winery and said "let's go wine tasting!" Shoot i'm always down. We had no place to be for a few hours. Walked in and we took a seat at the bar. The guy working the bar was very nice and explained to us a little bit about the Lost River Winery over in Eastern Washington. The tasting was only $6 which included 2 whites and 3 reds. The $6 is waived if you buy a bottle. I'm not a fan of whites really but their Rainshadow was pretty good. The Pinot Gris had a weird smell to me so I wasn't able to enjoy it. I'm a sucker for red. The Merlot and Cote-Wall were very nice. Smooth wines to drink. I don't remember what the last pour was. I want to say it was a cab but I don't remember much these days. Maybe it's the old age...or maybe it was the wine that had me forgetting? Anyway, overall a great experience at Lost River. Good company, great wine, and knowledgeable staff. We did find out that you can bring in your own food to taste with your wines. Since Pike Place is close by they've had people bring in their own seafood, cheese and crackers, etc. Something to think about the next time I come here. Also, make sure to order your wine at the bar. The staff will tell you to order at the bar as well when you walk in and there are also signs saying to order at the bar. We saw a couple who walked in and sat down after they were told to order at the bar when they were ready. Wow! How happy I am that I stumbled upon this new wine tasting room that just opened near Pike Place Market in Seattle! What a find! Not only were the wines fantastic, but the prices were well within my budget. I love a good vino, and Lost River tasting room in Pike Place definitely appealed to my picky pallete. Ram, the tasting room manager exceeded my expectations! He was extremely knowledgeable, very nice and personable and was not snobby at all, like some of the other tasting room employees have a tendency to be. I have been here twice, and I look forward to the third time I get to go here. Lost River Winery is an oasis in the tempest of tourists at Pike Market! Wine- I thoroughly enjoyed each of the wines I tasted at each of my visits. They really understand how to make a wine that is distinct and flavorful but is still accessible if you aren't a sommelier. I thoroughly enjoyed their 2013 Pino Gris; after a few sips, I knew I must have a bottle...or two...or three.... Service- Excellent! The staff does a great job educating you about their wine, but doesn't bore you. They also give generous pours for their tastings, which is awesome. Even though the place was packed both times I went, the service was quick and friendly. That's a tough skill, so kudos to you, Lost River Winery. Bottom line- go here. We like Lost River wines enough that we have become members of their wine club and often serve them to guests, including today. Their new 2012 Chardonnay is light and crisp and paired well with our chicken and wild rice salad this afternoon. The Seattle tasting room is one of our regular stops when we're downtown Seattle. The tasting room is open every day (this listing says Tues-Sun), and we wondered in to get away from the crowd at Pike's Market. Plenty of seating: at the bar, at bar tables, at communal table, or at leather seats. Of the five wines we tasted, only the two reds stood out. Just crackers and not actual food to accompany the tasting. The amount of pour varies depends on who you get as a server. Dont really drink wine unfortunately. You can put a bottle of costco brand wine next to a 1982 chateau lafite rothschild and I would probably pick the costco one. Anyway... This spot was on our food tour, and it was a pretty cool joint. We were able to meet and talking out their wines and how grapes can grow in Seattle. We did a small pairing with a rose and crab puff. We have loved our experiences here. The staff are knowledgeable and very friendly, there is no pressure to buy anything, the staff is there to pour your tastings and provide you with information about the wine (and make you laugh). The wine itself is exceptional. John, the vinter, is a perfectionist and it shows in his wines. We're members of their wine club and buy several cases a year of their wines. The location of the tasting room is great if you want to catch a moment from wandering around the market or downtown and just relax for a bit (or warm up if you are cold). read more

We were wandering around by the market, waiting to meet friends and this was a great way to spend some time. A few years ago, I stopped at the Lost River Winery tasting room just outside of Winthrop and enjoyed a tasting of their delicious wines. Luckily, they have recently opened a tasting room in Seattle, next to Pike Place Market. There is a $5 tasting fee, refundable if you purchase at least $25 in wine, and they have an ample variety of white and red wines to try. All of their wines are yummy, and very different from one another. There really is something for everyone, and their bottles are very affordable. I got two bottles of the red blend, the NV Western Red ($17 a bottle!) My boyfriend went nuts over the Merlot and bought a bottle of that one. It was a tough decision though...I also loved the Syrah and the Cabernet Sauvignon. And the Massif (a blend of 80% Malbec and 20% Syrah) was also a favorite, rich and powerful. Based on the manager's response I would rate them a 1.5 if that was an option, but I'm feeling generous today and will keep it at a 2. One thing I can't stand is managers that give excuses instead of apologizing. 1) The "Barbera" wine was released two days prior to when my family and I visited this location. The worker told us... So not really a valid excuse for the lack of customer service... 2) Even if the guy who originally ignored us was not apart of the staff, there still were two others working who could have realized new customers walked in, and greeted them and asked what type of tasting they would like to do. 3) The tour came at least 20-30 minutes after we arrived... Pretty sure that the tour guide (since he "wasn't an employee") could have directed us to the bar. I would recommend that the manager of this location take ownership of the poor service that my group received, instead of making excuses and promoting their business. BOOM! read more

Probably one of my favourite things I did in Seattle was going on a wine and food tour starting at the lost river winery. The wine here is amazing and I'm so sad that they don't have any here in Canada. I had to bring a bottle back because it was just that fantastic and the staff were so amazing and friendly. I loved hearing the back story on how this winery got it's name. That's definitely the best part about smaller wineries, they have the best stories. If you are in Seattle and happen to wander down by the bay definitely hit this place up, you definitely will not be disappointed! read more

While arriving in Seattle this afternoon I was elated to spend the afternoon with my sisters and mom. (We are in town from Ohio to visit my sister for her birthday) After spending time at Pikes Place market we realized we had some time to kill, and decided to stop in here for a wine tasting. From the second we walked in we were disappointed by the cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. After accidentally pouring our unfinished taste into a 'dump bucket', the server made an effort to inform us that it was a candle holder, picked up the centerpiece, and then returned to her friends where she giggled and glared. The wine was decent. But the experience as a whole was nothing less than disappointing. Customer service and employee interaction is vital to any experience and this was certainly lacking that piece. read more
