Absolutely perfect!! We had the avocado toast and pimento cheese toast as appetizers, which were amazing. Never had avocado toast before and it was sooo good. We also had the americano brunch plate and the yard bird plate (chicken fried chicken). Both of these exceeded expectations. Taylor was our server and she did an amazing job, was so professional and helpful considering I didn't know most items on the menu lol. The food is great---but service, atmosphere, & bar need to step it up big time. The dishes are amazing. Delicious and creative. Servers must all be high schoolers. None have any experience serving. The atmosphere is cold and uninviting. The acoustics are horrible. They play music too loud and there is no carpet or anything to help absorb the noise. All tile and high ceilings. The decor is pretty, but doesn't help the problems they're having. The bar has some creative but lack luster drinks. read more

The food was great, but I think the name is a little misleading. I was anticipating some extremely TEXAS food. I mean, you name the place after the year of the Battle of the Alamo, you better step up. But, the atmosphere doesn't come close. For starters, the men and women share a communal hand washing area IN the bathrooom. This ain't California, folks. The food was delicious, don't get me wrong. But they didn't even have Chicken Fried Steak on the menu... at the "Texas Kitchen"! I would suggest renaming it to fit its yuppie setting and food. read more

Awesome!!! We were skeptical upon entering and being seated in a very large open room with quite a few tables and chairs. I had the pork shank, wife had the grilled salmon. All was prepared to perfection, as were the top shelf margaritas. I will add that there is a lot of background noise and echo but that would not stop me from visiting here more often. read more

A new favorite spot of mine! This little place has the cutest decor, and even has a small herb garden on the patio. LOVE the vibe. Our waitress was amazing-- water glasses were never empty, which is always so nice. Chicken rolls were good, salad mediocre, Chicken Fried Steak bad, service horrible. The waitress was fine until we got our dinner and asked for a refill on an ice tea and another one for my wife. I don't know about you, but I'd like to have something to drink with my dinner. About 10 minutes later, here she comes but before giving us our drinks, she handed out the check to two other tables. So obviously, she felt that it was far more important to fill out their checks then to get drinks to a table that already has their dinner. Good luck but we'll never go back! read more

I had my birthday dinner with all the family here tonight. We are from Tyler but live out if town now and this came at the recommendation of a friend. The food was amazing and the service and atmosphere upscale casual. The manager came to check on our party twice and was very friendly. Our server was Sacramento and he was phenomenal. Every single person loved their food (I highly recommend the Crawfish queso as an appetizer). This was a memorable dining experience for a milestone birthday. Amazing place. Stopped in for a late lunch. We started out with the Pimento Cheese Platter. Very, very tasty. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos. It was so big she ate and ate and didn't even put a dent in the Platter. It was smoky and juicy! I ordered the BBQ Shrimp. It was not what I expected. I was expecting something smoky/spicy but it was neither. It was good. Eight shrimp cooked in a excellent broth. It was served with two pieces of grilled baguette bread. I devoured the shrimp then started in with the bread sopping up the broth!! To show how good the broth is, they serve the dish with a spoon!! We were so full we had to skip dessert. Our waiter was very good. He kept watch without intruding. We met the Chef and he explained how he came up with his recipes. We also met the Owner. Everyone was so nice. Will we be back? The atmosphere is nice and the service was impeccable. We had to wait awhile for our food due to some large parties before us but the food was good when it came out. I ordered the barbeque shrimp and my friend got the skillet enchiladas. The shrimp were good, the rice and beans that accompanied it seemed just ho hum and I could have done without it. I have been for brunch on Sunday, and the food and service exceeded expectation. The decor is uniquely Texas. It has a cool social vibe and backs it up with a great menu. Today, I had a business partner visiting from out of town. I wanted a fun place that would say "welcome to East Texas". We arrived just before noon, heard the specials, and rolled the dice. The Catfish special was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. It was covered with crawfish and shrimp and layered over dirty rice. I can't wait to go back and explore the menu! read more

Decided to try the food here based on reviews & recommendations from workmates. big mistake! We ordered "to-go" the Shiner Gravy Chicken (grilled) and the Chicken Fried Yardbird. First, the grilled chicken was burnt! Totally inedible due to the black char and bitterness. The gravy, although nice was ruined by the bitter burnt chicken. Then there is the collard green si that has rave revJews - nope, extremely salty! The sad thing is that the chef & management allow this garbage to be served goes to show their low regard for its customers., especially since we don't taste it till we get home. there's no was they did not serve/package this meal order intentionally knowing that this food should be thrown out instead. And taking our money for this garbage! Never again! Shame on the chef & management? Don't eat here because if they can do this on "to-go" orders, thinks about what they do behind in the kitchen. read more

We are visiting Tyler and saw the great reviews her on Yelp so decided to try this. It was wonderful. We tried both the pimento cheese and Crawfish queso appetizers and couldn't decide which was better. The lamb chops and pork shank were both great. The shrimp and grits was good although the person who ordered it wasn't expecting a green chili sauce. Was very impressed with the kids menu as well. read more

My husband and I LOVE this place. We dine there consistently and order via Waitr often. Their NY strip is his favorite steak in town and it's consistently good. My go to is the carne asada. It's also the perfect happy hour place for drinks and their chip and dip trio. Out of the dozens and dozens of times we've eaten here there was only one minor issue with the way his steak was cooked. The manager took care of it immediately and gave us a dessert on the house. The service is always great and we are incredibly happy to support local. read more

So this is our second time to visit 1836. Liked it enough last Sunday to come back this late afternoon, then stuck around for dinner! Even got a refund fir a movie we'd pre-purchased or tonight! Good decor and service, but the food we ordered on two occasions was substandard. Two different shrimp dishes were bland and, apparently, boiled, although one dish was to be broiled. Later I tried a hamburger. With fries and a soda it was about $20, and also substandard. Small meat was overcooked. Fries were clearly from a frozen bag, and undercooked. I asked to speak to the manager, but there was none, just the bartender, I was told. I do not recommend. read more

Ate here while in Tyler with friends. The food was great. Great wine selection here. The manager is around checking on guest. A little loud but does not take away from the great service we received here. Everything was cooked to perfection at our table. More than enough food for all. Took some back with us to our room for the next day. Looking for the Chianti wine they served, WOW. Total Wine says it is on the way. We stayed to closing in the bar after dinner. Good selection of scotch and great bar staff. Very knowledgeable here. Nice to see Tyler following those who like fine wines. Give them a try I think you will like the place. My wife and I have been super excited about trying this place after driving by it every day on the way home, and let me tell you it did not disappoint. This is the first time I have been impressed by a restaurant in the first month of opening, usually the waitstaff is frantic and slow, the host stand has no idea what is going on, and the wait for your food is forever. Not 1836, everything was spot on. The wait was only about 10 minutes so we grabbed a seat at the bar where the back wall has been opened up to the outside for some fresh air, drinks were well made and priced. Sat down at our table and had the crawfish queso which was delectable. Menu has a solid variety and everything is priced as it should be. Go here, and enjoy. read more
