First time here and I have to say I'm VERY impressed. The staff is so friendly and the food is amazing! First, the service: I am allergic to shelled fish and let the server know. The manager personally came over to ask about my allergy and to assure me they had gone as far as making a new breading mixture for my entree to avoid cross-contamination. Talk about going the extra mile!! Very impressed with the quality of service and our server Kevin did a fantastic job of taking care of us! Now - the food. We had the chips, salsa and queso to start. The queso is thick, creamy and has just the right touch of spiciness. So good! The salsa is finely chopped and very flavorful. 10/10 on all of the above! Everything fried was delicious!! The seasoning in the breading was good and the sides were a good quantity and also very good. But - the desserts...YUM!! We got the chocolate cake which was so fluffy and coated in chocolate that melted in our mouths. The key lime pie was equally high on the yum factor! Don't skip dessert here!! 'Twas the night before Thanksgiving and were at our relatives in Tyler and they suggested Clear Springs for dinner. Decor is Old West and lots of room. I ordered grilled salmon and my wife ordered fried catfish. Service was prompt and food was plentiful. My salmon had a cilantro cream sauce that was lightly seasoned and complemented my generous portion of salmon. It was accompanied by some nicely cooked rice and green beans and two hush puppies. My wife enjoyed her generous portion of fried catfish and coleslaw and ate a little of her fries and pinto beans. She said the fries and beans were fine but she was full from all of the catfish. I'm so glad we went here my niece picked this place and it was a great pick! So I'm here visiting my family from the DMV and we stayed in Tyler and was hungry. I wanted some fish and alcohol and this place had all of the above. The menu is really extensive, but I knew I wanted some catfish because we in Texas! So I ordered for an appetizer the jalapeño crawfish chowder which was so bomb! I got the platter which was with catfish and fried crawfish tails. And when I tell you all the food was tasty and had a little bit of spice! Sooo....goood! For the sides I opted for broccoli and mashed potatoes because I don't eat pork and the pinto beans were seasoned with them. Everything tasted great and I also grabbed a couple of margaritas I believe one was named the rattler and maybe the pomegranate margarita. The rattler was definitely much better than the latter. But both worth a try. Service was great she kept checking up on us throughout our time dining. Food was really great! I came with my 3 kiddos and my husband. We were seated almost immediately and then greeted with a friendly server, Dakota. We ordered 3 kids chicken tender meals an and I ordered the combo. Dakota was kind enough to let me get the grilled catfish and fried catfish for my combo. I ordered the green beans and mash potatoes as my side. I highly recommend the green beans - super flavorful but they are cooked with pork. The mashed potatoes were ok, nothing special but tasty. The fish was thinly sliced but it was enough (8 oz in total). My husband ordered the grilled catfish and had steamed broccoli and rice. He enjoyed. Overall it was good. read more

I ordered takeout: a well-done hamburger, with mustard, with a side of pinto beans. Got mayonnaise (a lot, had to scrape that off), no pinto beans, and definitely not well done. $12.95 for a takeout hamburger and the order is incorrect. Am I happy? Came here for an early dinner and was shocked at how crazy bad the traffic was. Not sure I would have made the trip if I knew what the journey was going to be like. Waitress was good but the hostess should be retired. 1/2 the tables open and they put us right where the staff rolls from the kitchen. Got to hear the cooks yelling, manager flirting and waitresses gossiping while we waited for our food. I got the Little Buddy. Feb 7,2023 18:00 Entered and was promptly seated. I ordered tea. Looked around at the fun, antique-y decor. Tea arrived. Looked over the menu... Looked over the menu... Noticed waitress busy working four tables besides mine, leaving an excessive amount of time to Look over the menu. So I looked over the menu... again... Hey! Where's the seafood??? There was a swordfish (apparently a lure they caught me with) on the sign out front... ummm but none on the menu. Catfish, catfish, catfish, Salmon, shrimp, shrimp... Oh fish and chips... Sweet!!! I was thinking this might be seafood. The waitress FINALLY was able to make her way to my table. I asked what kind of fish the fish and chips contained. She said the name (I've never heard of it) and explained to me that it was from Thailand and it was "engineered catfish" (whatever the F that means?) But in the end it was not seafood... it was still Catfish. Don't get me wrong I like catfish as much as anybody but I was there for seafood. I politely declined to order and left 18:15... to eat elsewhere. I just didn't want Catfish. This restaurant could use a severe menu update, entirely excluding seafood. It could well survive, if not thrive as a catfish restaurant. Perhaps a Huge catfish on the sign out. read more

If you're looking for a 'kitschy' east Texas style restaurant I would recommend Clear Springs. I've always received good service even when it's wall to wall busy. The thing I like the most is their blackened catfish and the hush puppies! Good food and a family friendly environment. read more

We've eaten at Clear Springs for years, starting at the one in New Braunfels. We go to the Tyler store, because it's the closest, and we're not vacationing in New Braunfels. We've noticed the prices on the catfish plates going up. The small was $14.95, today. The 4 catfish pieces were thin & skinny. Not much fish to them, especially for the price of the small. It looked like they cut a filet into three skinny pieces. I'm not sure we'll visit the Tyler store again. We'll just wait until we're in New Braunfels, and go to that Clear Springs. read more

Food was very good, though recent prices have not gone up, they have cut back on portion sizes. They used to put the fried shrimp (platter) on a bed of wild rice, no more. The shrimp were a lot smaller size, the side dish sizes were smaller. I realize they must stay in business, I don't go out to eat often any more but when I do go, I don't want to leave a restaurant still hungry. Updating my review! My five year old and I no longer live in the immediate area, but happened to be in town and decided to stop in. Once again the food was phenomenal. I seriously have to brag on the waitress, "Emily". She was beyond attentive, knowledgeable of the menu, and extremely personable. I overheard two other employees talking about how she was the only waitress running at the time (it was a slower time of the day, between lunch and dinner.) You would have never known that, based off her performance. I also heard her chatting with her coworkers, the busboy, etc - she truly did seem like a great employee for the establishment.
