First of the service was great. Hosted was great, manager was great. Server was great and they done a good job with the decor and ambiance. Drinks were good and there's a nice wine list. The food. Bone marrow app was good but a tad salty. Which was opposite of the steaks and seafood, they all lacked seasoning. One thing I just don't like are the cross hatch grill marks on a steak. When you arrive you're greeted by the clean and welcoming exterior and a red carpet rolled out for your prime experience here. Inside you find low-lit fun and quirky cowgirl bougie decor with luxurious and plush eating (I mean... these seats feel like a nice ride in a leather couch. The chairs are sturdy and comfy without being super heavy and they slide nicely.) Everyone there is so warm and welcoming especially when they find out it's your first time. They want it to be the first of MANY!!! Now, where to begin on the delicious eats that await you. They are knowledgeable with Celiac and gluten allergies. Designated fryer for rice flour items. I opted for the Sin City... Take me there and buy me TEN of these! Great mix of tequila, creme de Violette and lime! I had to have a second! Had the large Caesar salad, added grilled chicken, no croutons (they do make their own though... We subbed to cucumbers for GF)... Generous portion to share for 3 or even 4 smaller side salads. Then it was on to the tender fried calamari... GF with Rice flour and dis I mention a dedicated fryer?!?! Served with marinara AND sweet chili Thai sauce JIC you can't decide. For everything else it's a la carte... We shared the Large Potatoes au gratin ... Reminds me of my Mama's Mac and cheese pie with plenty of eggs, cream, cheese and a couple potatoes, almost like a souffle! And the small creamed spinach... Wish we had gotten the large one of those too. Great roasted garlic flavor and nice fresh wilted spinach. Mom opted for the pork chop (which she didn't hop on immediately and it cooked a little long since it was still resting and cooking while she was enjoying all the other side items... It was still very good but might want to order medium rare of you don't plan on cutting into it right away. I opted for the grass fed sirloin... This 16 oz felt more like a 26 oz with nice fatty rimming and a succulent center that was prepared PERFECTLY medium rare and in some spots even a nice lending more rare center. Just the way I like it ... I had leftovers and didn't feel overly stuffed nor sick like you can sometimes feel with a bunch of rich food. I didn't try it because it wasn't GF but Mom said the she crab soup had a little much Old Bay which was over powering for a she crab soup. I could smell it though so I can imagine what she's saying... In my opinion, the scallops weren't worth it but they weren't a bad price AT ALL ... They ran a little on the smaller side and were just slightly over cooked for my taste. Will definitely try the LOCAL Shrimp next time!!! The burger was also ordered at the table but they prefer their meat well done, so I can't be a good judge to that. Also, no GF buns but I don't fault them there. Stayed in town at local hotel Saturday and needed place to eat. We stopped in to 17 Prime and sat at bar. Started the evening with a shot to toast a friend's passing. Bartender acknowledged our salute which we appreciated. Chose seafood dish and really enjoyed meal. Service was good, decor was nice. Generally write longer reviews but having just come from funeral, mind wasn't fully on meal and experience. Would return to 17 Prime if we're back in area. read more

We popped in one late evening to have an appetizer and listen to some music. The interior is well done and live music on the back patio is a a plus. We ordered the steak appetizer and the server was happy to accommodate my request to omit the teriyaki sauce and add some blue cheese crumbles. The food was delicious. I had a Caesar salad, bone in ribeye, baked potato, asparagus. The sides were a la carte. The ambiance was just ok. They had a self-playing grand piano, which wasn't playing anything. Odd. Decor nothing special. I reserved a seat at the bar in advance. The bartender was a touch condescending, calling me "dear" and not asking me for my drink order for 15 minutes... and when he did, let me know the seat was reserved, and I said, I know, it's reserved for me! Then he checked on that and came back, his tone was more respectful. I have eaten alone whenever I've wanted at many high-end restaurants, and never treated with less courtesy than if I were with a friend. I would hesitate to do so here. The baked potato was overcooked. Tasted reheated and a little gummy. The steak was very flavorful, but a bit undercooked, but the server did offer to fix it, so I can't complain. Overall, it was a lovely meal. The owner came by to chat and was lovely, I mentioned the service and he bought me a drink. I think it's great that a restaurant of this caliber has come to West Ashley. I hope many more do the same. But for me, I'll likely go to king street if I want to spend that much money. The service and the ambiance do make a difference when you are paying 70.00 for a steak. I think it's a perfect choice for couples on a special occasion! read more

I've been to steak houses around the world and this one rates as just "ok" . It appears this steakhouse occupies an old fast food restaurant, they have done their best to spruce it up but it's very cramped inside. The food was priced in accordance with high end steak houses but I don't think the food is all that. The food was good but not great and the same with the service. The food... the steak, I will not get again here. It had NO FLAVOR! Simply tasted like charred beef. The creamed spinach was 0/10, the mashed were yummy. Fantastic collection of containers make this restaurant unique with great views and some open air dining, perfect for this evening when it was cool and clear. The heaters gave enough warmth to eliminate any chill. I had the Sin City drink with Crème de Violette and pepper, a sweet but tangy, unique beverage. My husband had the prime rib and I enjoyed the mushroom ravioli with grilled chicken. Appetizers we shared were Teriyaki steak with crumbled blue cheese and two cheese stuffed mushrooms. The wait staff and hostesses are friendly and beautiful and were always checking unobtrusively that we were happy. The entertainment was two men on guitar, drums and vocals. Smooth, rhythmic and the perfect accompaniment to a fabulous dinner. We will be back as often as we can from Edisto. read more

In town for a wedding and downtown restaurants were all booked so grabbed a reservation at prime. Table of 6 jammed into a large but tight booth. Salads and apps were good however our entrees all arrived room temp. Ribeye, filet mignon, lambchops, etc. Same for our side of Mac and cheese. Only hot arrival was the steak and sweet potato fries. Service was slow, perhaps cause of Friday night at 630? Wished it were better. read more

my fiancee and I tried 17 prime for the first time for valentine's day dinner last night. we were so excited as we heard great things, and there were definitely some positives, but there are also definitely areas for improvement, especially for the $350 price tag after tip. We arrived about 25/30 minutes early for our 7pm reservation, but they were able to clean off a table and seat us immediately which was very kind. I ordered their gin cocktail and he ordered their old fashioned, which both were excellent. We also both had their caesar salad to start, which was fine but not special - I wish the lettuce was tossed in the dressing instead of the dressing just added on top. after we placed our order, we were asked if we wanted bread service, which ended up just being two dinner rolls with a small amount of cinnamon butter. for our entrees, I ordered the filet mignon cooked medium, and he ordered the grass fed ribeye medium rare with scallops on the side. I felt my steak was a little rarer than I would have preferred, but it was still good and incredibly juicy. my fiancee felt as though he has received better ribeyes at other places, but it was still fine and he ate the whole thing. we also ordered three sides - small portion of mac n cheese, a loaded baked potato, and a full side of the jalapeno creamed corn. the potato was fine, although on the check at the end, we were charged an extra dollar for the potato to be "loaded" which i feel should have been more transparent on the menu pricing. it's just a dollar though, absolutely no big deal- just odd in my opinion. the mac n cheese was fine, nothing special either. we were most excited for the creamed corn, however unfortunately we were also most disappointed by it. the corn was hiding under about two cups of breadcrumbs - way too much for the small skillet it was served in - so much so that there was minimal "cream" and it just tasted like mushy corn with breadcrumbs. we barely ate any of it. the dessert was also quite disappointing. I LOVE creme brulee and was excited to order it for myself. my fiancee ordered cheesecake for himself, and when I received my dessert several minutes later, it was totally melted and warm - not chilled and custardy as it should be. so much so that our server even took it back for me and said "unless you were planning to drink it, you shouldn't have to pay for that" and offered to get me something else. I ended up getting a slice of chocolate cake instead, which was large and very rich. I could only stomach a few bites, as we were both pretty full at that point. when we received the check at the end, I was a little surprised I was still charged for the chocolate cake, i guess i had wrongly assumed that my substituted dessert might at least be discounted if not removed completely - but alas it was added at full price. the entire time we were there, we were not offered water, either. other tables around us were, but perhaps because we were sat early it was just missed for us. many of our plates were not served together, I often received my plates a few minutes after my fiancee received his. our server, krystal rose, to her credit was working SO hard while we were there. props to her working a busy night like valentine's day, which understandably might be an understaffed night. we still tipped 20%, because we don't feel as though the quality of the food is any reflection on our server and how hard she was working that night. on the other hand, though - we have eaten at Hall's for my birthday for less than half that price, with a better ambiance, service timing, and higher quality dishes. for $350, we probably won't return. read more

I had high expectations based on the 4.5 star review, I wish I'd had the same experience. The place was clean and fresh flowers on each table is a nice touch. I wanted to try the wet aged ribeye, it didn't disappoint after we got a "bump" b/c the med rare we ordered was clearly rare. Here is where I'm underwhelmed upon arrival the server asked if we'd ever visited before- myself and hubby first timers, other 2 in the party had frequented another location. The whipped mashed potatoes clearly tasted straight out of a box, and paired with a $69 steak I find that unacceptable. At some point after I saw bread on another table inquired if we had to ask for it; reply was yes. Remember I'm a first timer so had I been told we had to ask for the bread it would have been requested long before the meal was about finished. Also someone at the table needed salt, after sitting and searching for our server she finally found it herself. Magically the server appeared. Lastly, again server was MIA for an unacceptable amount of time while we attempted to pay for the check. Again, underwhelmed - we will spend our money somewhere else next time . read more

Yet, 17 PRIME STEAKHOUSE was exceptional all the way around. My server was extremely friendly and attentive. The vibe is fresh and upbeat. But, most importantly, the food was EXCEPTIONAL ! I can only give them 5 stars, but I will also give them a numerical 10 score. PERFECT in my book ! I had a 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell, the wedge salad, grass fed ribeye, loaded baked potato, and some added seared scallops to make a surf and turf entree. I somehow managed a desert of raz drizzled cheese cake with coffee. As stated previously, EVERYTHING WAS EXCEPTIONAL ! New in town and decided to take my daughter here for her 22nd birthday dinner. Both of us steaklovers. Tried to get in Chophouse downtown but they were full for weeks. Did a quick search and ran upon 17Prime...with a similar price point I made an assumption that it would be good ...I would have settled for "almost" as good. I arrived first. WHen I walked in I was greeted by cheerful (manager?) I assumed. Very nice guy. He was so nice that I hesitate to even register my remarks, but the business side of me hopes this review might help them. OUTSIDE: So, we were seated outside...we weren't offered a choice btw. My first impression of outside dining was not great. The atmosphere reminded me of a cheap burger joint with an overflow outdoor seating section. The tables and chairs looked so cheap. The tables were absent any adornment of any kind ; no salt and pepper shakers, no condiments, no small flower vase...nada. Next issue outside is that there were flies swarming around us, on our food, drinks the entire night. Someone noticed me swatting at them and brought a fan device to our table which is supposed to keep flies away... ....it did nothing to dissuade the annoying flies. RESTROOM LOCATIONS: So the bathrooms are in the same open space as the interior main dining room. SAME ROOM PEOPLE. THey had screens up in front of them to block the direct line of vision into the bathrooms. Just gross and ...eeks...lacking class. Restrooms should be located down a hallway, back by the kitchen....or at least somewhere away from where people are eating. They were at least smart enough to install quiet flush toilets. FOOD: We did get bread after ordering dinner. Really hard, cold rolls... Some kind of spread was served with it...that was crunchy and way to sweet. Not a good start. If its not fresh, if its not warm/hot, if its so different that people don't get it or like it....dont serve it. Hot, fresh rolls with butter spread. Thats it. Such an easy fix. Daughter ordered the large filet and I the prime rib and we shared ala carte mashed potatoes. When the food arrived, the potatoes were drowning in butter, but not hot. When I say not hot, I mean cold. My prime rib was chewy, rather than tender and mouth melting. Daughter said her filet was good. THe server did say that my daughter could get free chocolate cake... for her birthday. So we asked if other desserts were o.k. instead of chocolate and she went through her long list . After all that...she landed back with "I think I'll stick with the chocolate cake anyway"...to which we had a good laugh. At the end of our meal, server brought us strawberry cake. ....? not sure where her mind was when we said we'll stick with the chocolate cake. Strawberry cake we left on the plate half eaten. Nuff said. WAIT STAFF: During our service I noticed the attire our server was wearing because when she walked away from our table or across the room her short flare like skirt was flouncing from side to side, etc.. god forbid a strong wind drop in or she had to bend over for something. Upscale server should always wear pants, (khakis or black) solid long sleeve white oxford type button up shirt with collar , a long white (clean) apron with towel in back and always have pens, corkscrew, specials descriptions etc all in apron pockets. MANAGER ATTIRE: The manager had on regular pants and button up shirt, suitable for back office work attire. If you are going to greet customers, managers before 6, wear a dress shirt with tie and business dress shoes. After 6, tie, suit, i.e., matching dinner jacket .no exceptions. $65 for one steak....demands you look the part. The bartender in the back yard was actually properly dressed, but was so loud it was distracting....he was...talking to other staff members, yelling across the room...laughing, just random odd remarks to others. Just not very professional. At one point, I went out the back door of the patio to make a run to my car and several staff including bartender were standing just a few feet outside the door smoking. Smoking section should be out of sight of visiting patrons, even those using the back patio entrance. I wish I had more good things to say. West Ashley could really use a high end restaurant, but unfortunately, this will be my first and last time to frequent 17 Prime. I don't understand how other people dont notice these details that I've mentioned. I'm sad that I paid so much for such a below average experience. If only the food had been good, I could have overlooked the other things. To restaurant owner, managers, you still may have time to fix this. WIthout an overhaul, I just don't see it. How the other reviewers give it 5 stars....I can only think we have different ideas of upscale dining. Not one dish we were served was good (except for my daughter steak...I did not taste it) which is unacceptable to me and my pocketbook. read more

Walked in to an awesome place. Greeted with smiles all around. I think we were there the second or third day of opening and you couldn't tell. Everyone was spot on with their roles and food was fresh and drinks were amazing. I had multiple martinis which were very very good. My friend had some old fashions, which he didn't stop talking about. We started with buffalo shrimp I think and they were fresh and delicious. I had the pork chop another fantastic choice and the greens. I'm a huge greens guy. When you don't have to put seasoning or hot sauce on em additionally. They are very good and they were excellent.
