This restaurant was recommended to us from staff at a business in Pilot Mountain we were visiting. We were greeted with a smile and seated right away. I guess that's what you get when you are in the land of Mayberry. Our server was very nice. The menu had a variety of items, but it boasts on being a place for ribs and seafood. It was lunchtime and I wanted something lighter. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich with a side of sauteed veggies. The sandwich was large. The chicken was juicy, but even though it was blackened, it could have used more seasoning or salt. The Kaiser bun was a good bread choice. I liked the fried onion straws that were added to the sandwich.The sauteed veggies were a mixture of zuchinni, onions and green pepper. It was seasoned well and not too greasy. It was good for a stop, but I wish I would have tried some ribs or seafood. read more

Recognized by most as Mt. Airy's best and most reliable restaurant, 13 Bones has never disappointed this finicky foodie from Charlotte. On this trip for lunch, my wife and I split the full rack of Kansas City style ribs and added a couple of salads along with loaded baked potatoes. The ribs were incredibly tender and yes, the meat literally fell off of them. They were some of the best ribs I've ever had anywhere (even Kansas City!) The fact that they were only $19 including two sides was actually a deal when you consider it fed both of us pretty easily. The baked potatoes were, well, baked potatoes but the stuff including fresh bacon made them special. The side salads were fresh and pretty tasty. The bread however (both the hush puppies and the yeast rolls) were a little cold and not special. I know someone will want to string me up for that saying that. Service was exceptional and the place was immaculate from the dining area to the bathrooms. This place easy warrants four stars for restaurants in its category and is definitely a Gotta Try in Mt Airy. read more

Great time with kids visiting mount airy with the kids and having lunch here too ! Great prices and plenty of food

This was our second visit there and it was just as good as the first. The first time we went there was a long wait but didn't mind. This time we went later in the evening and was seated immediately. Service both time was great and the food is very good with plentiful servings. 13 Bones is a family run restaurant that has been there for several years, and for good reason. Between the excellent service and food they really know how to make their customers happy. They have t-shirts and other apparel that you can buy and each item has a different verse from the bible on it with art work. Very nice. If you find yourself in Mount Airy stop in enjoy all they have to offer. You will be glad you did...No Bones About It. read more

Great place for a great Ribeye..the fresh potato chips with homemade French onion dip.. My wife and I visited from Southport,NC where not impressed. The inside decor was just old and tired, with some areas not painted. The food was just ok. I had the rib sandwich, with toasted buttered bun. My wife the pulled pork dinner. The meat was good. We both had a try at the Mac and cheese which reminded us of zraft Mac and cheese in a box. At least put the Mac and cheese in the oven and get a nice crunch on the cheese. The best part is the pricing, very reasonable. We had the apple cake, it was ok however it was missing walnuts. I would love to post a picture with my review but we demolished both our meals! Some reviews on google were not good but I cannot understand why. Service by Logan H. Was outstanding! We started with fried pickles, hubs had ribeye and ribs combo with baked beans and fries. I had the honey dipped chicken with Mac and cheese and string beans, both came with yeast rolls. Hubs says steak was cooked to perfection and he didn't add a thing which is unusual for him. Chicken was crunchy but juicy inside. Cannot complain about a thing! And, they have Coke Zero which was a huge plus! We will stop any time we are in the area. read more

I decided to stop by after showing property in Mt. Airy it did not disappoint. The staff was warm and welcoming, the service was quick. Definitely get their house made chips and french onion dip. 13 Bones definitely draws a crowd. While there is typically a wait, sometimes 45 minutes plus from what I hear, we did manage to snag a seat at that bar. I tried the lemon pepper trout, a got a piece of grilled and light breaded. Both were good but nothing great to be said. I tried some of the pork, again not bad but it didn't rock my world. Loved the rib sandwich until I found a hair in it twice!! In the same day. Went thru drive thru and when I opened the box it was there. I went back thru and that made me another and said it was "fresh". However, some how a hair was again present in the box. Today was the first time trying 13 bones. The food is bland. When your order comes out in such an expensive place to eat.. You expect to start eating however the sides for my burger were on the side lol. I was shocked that we had to add the extras to our food lol. It wasnt put together... After paying $60 for 2 adults and a child i have to say i should've gone to McDonalds and i hate McDonalds. The atmosphere is nice.. But its too dark to read the menu. The waitress was very nice. But she did forget some of our order in which she joked that it happens a lot there. We didnt even realize until we were ready to pay. The fries are sooooo salty... Myself and my daughter couldnt even eat them. The salad for some reason altho looked amazing... My first bite was extremely bitter... Along with the 3 bites i tried to get down after the first. My husband couldnt eat it either. My husbands steak was blah.. No seasoning. Cooked good but no seasoning. My daughters chicken tenders were.over cooked. The breading was a very dark brown instead of golden. She tried to eat it but said it tasted gross. When i tried the chicken tender... It had a burnt taste to it and it was very hard to try to bite. Always great service here. I have never actually found the right combination of food there that I can say is perfect and I love it. Everyone brags on there ribs but my husband got them and he wasn't impressed. Normally I just order something like chicken or hamburger steak so I know I will eat it. How this place is 4 stars is completely beyond my family and I. The service was great but the food is down right terrible. My husband and I both ordered the 13oz ribeye medium rare and we are firm believers that if you need A1 for steak it's not very good, that being said there was not enough A1 in the world to give this steak a good taste it was bland and under seasoned. My husbands was rare and parts of it blood red and mostly fat, mine was rare and cold. The sides were also lack luster at 17 a plate you would expect more than green beans straight from a can no seasoning or anything, the potatoes were equally as boring. Our fried pickles were decent. Overall very disappointed. Update: My 5yr old son undoubtedly got food poisoning from eating here and was puking just a matter of hours after we left. read more

The wife and I came in to eat this afternoon after all day driving and no lunch starving... had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, it was busy. Waitress was great, took her time with us as we ordered ribs, shrimp and flounder with cheese sticks. Everything was spot on, not because we were hungry but just good food, especially the ribs. Several years ago we passed through Mt. Airy and stopped at 13 Bones. We had some memorable BBQ. Our server told us that the restaurant's name 13 Bones referred to rib bones. We're on the road again, and since Mt. Airy is on the way we made that our stopping point so we could go to 13 Bones. What a disappointment! They no longer are a BBQ restaurant. There was very little BBQ on the menu and it was only pork. The DH had the ribs. I had the chopped pork. It was just okay. We will not make a point of going there again. We live in Lansing, Mi. An area not known for BBQ. Yet we have better BBQ than 13 Bones. We had some outstanding BBQ in Marion, Illinois. Who goes to Illinois for BBQ!? Isn't that Southern cuisine? I want to ask if 13 Bones changed its menu since we were there, or do we remember something that never was? read more

My hotel suggested that I come here. Happy I did as the food is most excellent. The sweet tea is out o the world! The 1/2 rack of ribs and grilled shrimp are amazing. The mash potatoes and broccoli rock. Highly recommend this spot. read more

It's packed on weekend nights, and the parking is difficult because you have to drive through the lot of the adjacent restaurant to reach 13 Bones. The ribeye was good and so were the ribs. The place was clean and the service was excellent. The only thing is they could use some help on their sides. Mac n cheese was a bit runny with sauce and seemed like typical food service garb and the rolls are mediocre as well. But then again, don't go for the sides because the entree is where it's at. Tasty food The waitress seemed ok, just a little distracted so I couldn't get a refill They were somewhat busy, the busboy was very polite, but didn't sweep the floor underneath for the next customers.
