I wish this place was closer to my home because it would be the answer to the age old question of where are we going to eat? Unfortaunely it is only open till 3pm daily, but I could defiantly eat breakfast and lunch here every day and never get tired of it. The restaurant was very clean including their bathrooms. Overall, it's a Southern-style food haven with a mix of traditional favorites and a few indulgent extras. Your pickiest of eaters are guaranteed to find something to eat here. There do vegetarian and gluten-free options available if you have diets restrictions. Fountain drinks are Pepsi products just in case you wanted to be prepared ahead of time. Everything we had was delicious even down to the ranch we dipped the fried pickles in. Our waitress was very nice and super attentive and we didn't have to wait very long to get our food despite the restaurant being very busy. The hamburger was your basic burger and fries, but that was because the person chose to get it that way, but was still a decent burger (the burger was cooked well but still juicy). The country fried steak was also juicy and not rubbery which some times can happen. The fried pickles were perfectly seasoned and not overly salty and pair really well with their house made ranch dressing. Smoked sausage was cooked perfectly as well as the eggs for both the breakfast plate and the benedict. There was only 1 thing that I could say negatively about the food and that was the fried green tomatoes. They were very under seasoned and tasted like eating bitter cornmeal. Cute place, just off the main drag (Andy Griffith Pkwy). Big metal roosters outside with seats on the porch, very homey and cabin-y feeling inside. We stopped in for breakfast while in the area, and oh my! Our server (Anita) was so friendly. She immediately brought coffee and then gave us a few minutes to look at the large menu. Hubs ordered an omelette (meat-lovers) that came with a large serving of hash browns. The omelette was huge too and loaded with meat (ham, sausage, bacon) and cheese. I ordered the "Memaw breakfast" which was 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, a choice of meat, and 2 sides (I ordered grits and apples). I was expecting small "silver dollar" pancakes- nope! Two big fluffy pancakes the size of the large plate. The sausage patties were twice as big as Cracker Barrel's. And I don't know where CB gets their eggs, but 2 eggs here (scrambled eggs) took up half the plate. At CB, 2 eggs are hard to find on the plate . Anyway - I ate the eggs, one of the sausage patties and the grits and had to get a box for the rest. Next morning, I split my leftovers with hubs... pancakes were the fluffiest and most tender I've ever eaten. Bottom line , bring a big appetite or plan to take a lot home. You just lost a customer with your employees attitude. Looking forward to a nice breakfast with my wife. We heard a crash in five minutes later someone came over to our table to deliver my wife's egg meal. We were told that my breakfast dish was dropped, and they were remaking. Manager was ignorant, disrespectful, and a joke of a manager. My wife's meal was cold upon arrival anyway. Here's some customer service hints: 1) I'm terribly sorry your husband's dinner was dropped on the floor and we're remaking it. Can I bring you anything while we're working on that? 2) would you like us to hold your food back so that we can keep it hot and bring both out together or would you like to eat alone? 3) when things like this happen you should have the manager come over and address the table. Our experience was not good at all. When we were seated, we were put in a two top booth. We asked to move as our table was right in the main traffic area of servers coming out with food and opposite another booth right beside it through a plexiglass window. We asked to move to a four top booth over along a quieter wall. As we were moving the server that sat us, spoke in Spanish to another server in front of us about us moving. That's in very poor taste as you're not really sure what they're saying and it didn't seem very positive. Our server seemed to care less about customer service, instead about going through the tasks of taking orders and delivering food. And we aren't demanding or rude about customer service; I used to work in restaurant for years. We ordered breakfast with a side of hashbrowns. It was evident that the hash brown had been from the day before. I sent mine back to get fresh potatoes. They came back in less than two minutes. When I questioned it, the girl said she saw them cook them and that they were fresh. As she was running the other orders and it takes longer than two minutes to cook fresh hashbrowns, I'm not sure how she saw them cook them. At that point, I didn't argue, I just didn't eat them. I asked her to take the potatoes off of our meals, she said we would have to talk to the person at the register. When we went to the register, the person at the register asked how things were. When we started to explain, the person was apathetic, short, and rude. She seriously spoke to us brusquely and rushed like she didn't want to deal with it. I asked to have some taken off of our meal for the potatoes that neither one of us ate. Eating out is more expensive than it used to be. I expect food to be up to standard as well as the service. We both walked away from that experience very annoyed. It's disheartening when you feel like you've wasted your money. read more

We found this breakfast spot on a whim on a road trip. What an absolute gem of a find. It's an out of the way place totally worth seeking out. We had no wait on a Saturday morning. I had a make your own combo with country ham, scrambled eggs, grits, hashbrowns and a biscuit. the biscuit was heavenly and I will take country ham any time I see it on a menu. I tasted my husband's pancakes and they were exemplary. Best pancakes since my grandma was alive. The dining room is rustic and charming. Interesting place. Went on a Saturday morning around 7am. We were one of the first to arrive. The waitress was polite but didn't understand the menu. We asked basic questions about milk gravy vs sausage and she couldn't answer them. We ended up ordering both, in the future I'd go with the sausage. The milk gravy and biscuits was just thickened milk, no other flavorings. Biscuits tasted ok, crispy on the bottom and dry for southern biscuits. It needed extra gravy to offset. Overall, we'll maybe try it again the next time we're in town with the hope of a better waitress and try different items. Upon entering I was immediately greeted and given the option of sitting at the bar or a booth. I told them it didn't matter, so they sat me in a booth. The waitress was very attentive to all of her tables. The "South of the Border" section caught my eye so I ordered Papas & Huevos and ordered chorizo to go with it. I'm not a huge fan of chorizo, so I wanted to see if they could cook it and I end up liking it. WELL, the chorizo was cooked PERFECTLY with my eggs and potatoes. It gave them extra flavor that I wouldn't have had without it. The eggs didn't look like they'd be as light and fluffy as they were. I can't tell if the pintos were out of a can or homemade, but they were still great nonetheless. I really enjoyed the ambiance. Reminds you a lot of a primitive farm house, and they play about the same type of music as Cracker Barrel. It's very very clean, and just all around a wonderful addition to the Mt. Airy area. This large restaurant has breakfast and lunch. It has a vibe like Cracker Barrell when you sit to eat but the food is mediocre at best. I had a Southwestern salad and it was supposed to be mixed greens but was mostly tasteless iceberg lettuce and the chicken tenders were so hard, they were hard to eat and swallow. I am not usually this critical but I am trying to be honest. Maybe the breakfasts are much better. read more

Today's sausage pattie I swear was oinking yesterday on a farm nearby. Don't hold me to that. They are doing a really great job here and it's been a welcome addition.
