I can speak with some authority about Greek food because my parents were Greek immigrants, and my mother was an excellent cook. The Chicken Souvlaki plate--with lemon potatoes, rice pilaf, and a Greek salad topped with feta cheese and Kalamata olives--was as good as my mother's! My wife and I came in for a date night. I have been here once before. My wife ordered the baked salmon and I ordered the shrimp plate. Both had ride, potato, salad, tzatziki, and pita. The salad pita, potato and tzatziki were great. Rice was meh. Salmon and shrimp were overcooked. The shrimp especially. The service, Jackie D. Was decent, but seemed a little out of focus. First time in today. Cute, clean little place with inside and outside seating. The service was great and the food was delicious! Great portion size with what I ordered. I had the Chicken Souvlaki Plate. Grilled chicken, rice, Greek salad, lemon herb potatoes, pita bread and tzatziki sauce. The pita bread was so delicious and the tzatziki sauce was amazing and fresh. Mount Airy has a real gem here! I loved Zito! back when it was in a small shopping center off Healy drive in Winston-Salem, now they have this gorgeous new location right on the main drag in the land of Andy Griffith... but rather instead of being transported to Mayberry, you walk inside and are taken to Kefalonia instead! Truly, all the touches inside are perfect. You would never guess this was a greasy spoon diner before, from the placemats to the ceiling tiles and signs in Greek with English translations, it's just excellent and gives a premium feel. This would all be in vain if the food wasn't any good, but no surprise, it's delicious! I started off with an order of dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and they were certainly the best version I've had lately. Served with a bit of hummus, tomatoes, and of course marinated in olive oil. Wonderful texture, very refreshing, and 8 to an order. I had a strong craving for pastitsio, and that order came with a very fresh greek salad and a couple of fingerling potatoes with a delightful vinegary tang to them. The salad had fresh from the block feta with a wonderful texture, and an excellent dressing. For the pastitsio, it's all about the bechamel layer on top, and this one was fluffy, creamy, and not overpowering. Balanced well with the pasta, and meat sauce. It was an excellent version. I finished things off with a slice or tasty tiramisu for desert, and did my best to stay awake for the drive home. I would absolutely return here! read more

It was clean but still smelled like fish. A Monday afternoon. One waitress with two tables. Waitress did not get the other table's order right. They pitched a fit. Then we got our bill. We had been charged for two Gyro platters instead of one. They also charged us for sides of tiziki sauce even though they were the ones who mentioned getting it since they were out of ketchup to dip the fries in. So we understood why the other table was upset. The food was ok. Greek salad was really good. Baked spaghetti was ok. The cheese on top was tough and had to be cut with a knife but I was hungry so I ate it. Not somewhere we are just itching to go back to. Maybe you will have more luck. In response to the owners remarks, the 16 years old waitress was inattentive to the customers and with only two customers in the restaurant, she managed to mess up both orders, and then on top of that the restaurant was out of ketchup for and other sauces were offered and then you have the audacity to charge the customer for those sauces! That right there sounds like a bait and switch technique to me! So after that visit and then reading your comments about this visit, it has reaffirmed my desire to not eat at your restaurant ever again for fear that we will get a repeat performance with that waitress and your inability to be able to acknowledge your restaurant's mistakes, and apologize without being condescending and critical to your customers. This place surprised us. Four of us went in about a half an hour before closing and the service wasn't the best. The food made up for it. They make their own pita bread. My wife had a falafel pita, and it was full of good stuff. The falafel patties were HUGE and cooked perfectly. Our friends had the gyro pita and shared a Greek salad which they said was delicious. Everyone loved the house made pitas. I had the Zito Salad and really enjoyed it. Healthy ingredients and extremely generous portion. I would highly recommend. read more

Zito has REAL Greek food. The pita bread is made on site. It is wonderful. I had chicken with rice and lemon potato and a salad. The chicken was perfectly fine, big juicy pieces of chicken, the potato's were perfect. Crisp on the outside, tender inside. The salad had tons of olives and garden fresh tomatoes. I wanted dessert but the portions for lunch were so large there wasn't any room. . The waitress was professional and polite and offered more pita and beverages. Attentive but not hovering. The restaurant was spotless as was the ladies room. The decor real authentic Greek photos and stories of the family and some of the de ir cane from Greece. Go. Oh my goodness. Mount Airy has gained a real jewel! I had to take a package to the UPS store located in the small strip center close to Northern Hospital. Our next stop was to be one of our regular restaurants, but we noticed this new Greek place and decided to give it a try. We walked in to find almost every seat taken... usually a good sign. Our waitress, who was super helpful and pleasant, said that they had been open only a few weeks and have yet to have their grand opening. The owner grew up in the restaurant business working for her parents. Her dad was Greek so all the dishes she learned from him are authentic. I loved the fact that they try to serve organic food/ingredients when possible. The family picture and history is shared with the customers through pictures. The menu offers vegan and gluten free options. I had the Luz flatbread. The bread is made fresh daily in house and I can say without hesitation that it was absolutely delicious. I make my own bread so I truly appreciate being served a great one. My husband had the Greek salad. It was super delicious. My husband said he's going back tomorrow for lunch and I hope to return on Saturday. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to trying many of their great menu options. read more

Zito in Mount Airy - A Fresh Take on Greek Cuisine Today I had the distinct pleasure of trying Zito Greek Kitchen in Mount Airy, and let me tell you -- this place is a hidden gem for anyone who loves good food and a touch of Greece. First off, I tried Greek coffee for the first time. As an avid coffee drinker, I'm pretty particular about my brew, and Zito Greek coffee was definitely a unique experience. It had a rich, bold flavor that was on the strong side -- if you don't do strong coffee, you might want to sip it slowly, but for me, it was worth the try. We started with an appetizer -- grilled halloumi cheese served with tzatziki and pita -- and it was an absolute hit at the table. The cheese was delicious, which is saying something because, as you might guess, I'm a sucker for good cheese. (In fact, I'd say it's one of my favorite foods -- so this was right up my alley. Lol.) The grilled halloumi had just the right amount of crispiness, and the tzatziki was cool, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. For my main, I ordered a traditional gyro, and it did not disappoint. The meat was so tender it practically melted in my mouth, and the pita bread was just the right amount of fluffy and fresh. The homemade tzatziki sauce stole the show -- I could have dipped everything in it. We visited during the restaurant's soft opening phase, but I was told their grand opening is scheduled for Father's Day weekend. So, if you're looking to check them out, now's a great time -- and definitely arrive early, as it filled up quickly. Our server, Gretchen, was fantastic -- attentive, friendly, and professional, making sure everything was just right. The atmosphere was open and bright, with some charming family pictures adorning the walls, making it feel warm and welcoming. And of course, because I probably didn't need it (but I couldn't resist), I ordered baklava for dessert. It was so good -- sweet, flaky, and just the right amount of sticky -- I swear it should be illegal. All in all, Zito is a fantastic new spot for Greek food in Mount Airy. Whether you're a seasoned Greek cuisine lover or just curious about trying something new, this place is worth a visit. I'll definitely be coming back -- especially once they're fully open! read more

The best lunch I've had in years! I had the Gyro and my wife had the Sampler Plate. The gyro tasted so fresh on the hot pita bread. The tzatziki was creamy and garlicky. I shared some falafel patties from my wife's plate. They were the best I had ever had (and I have been eating falafel for 50+ years). The spanakopita was crunchy and flavorful. The Greek chicken was tasty. The restaurant's atmosphere was pleasant, with scenes of Greece on the walls and Greek music in the background. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I have had Poutine in Canada before and so I tried their version of Mayberry Poutine which I believe is Better than "official" Canadian Poutine! The food was absolutely Delicious and I cannot wait for their Grand Opening. This is My New Favorite Restaurant in Mount Airy! The service was friendly and swift. It's okay. I've tried 2 different dishes. The chicken souvlaki and my favorite pastitsio. The chicken was bland and the pastitsio (maybe it's a family recipe) but it didn't have the familiar flavors and texture from the béchamel that I'm used to. It's also really hard to reach them since they're so busy. I don't see myself getting food from here again. Sadly, since Mt Airy hardly has food options. read more
