General store sums it up! This place has everything from clothes to cookies to a deli and raw milk from the Amish. It has items in bulk, the way I remember Amish stores. Rows upon rows of choices of nuts, snacks, dried fruits, food of all kinds, and spices, too. It's clean and bright, a large space, and has good energy. I found myself browsing for quite a while, just enjoying encountering interesting finds. I like to support local independent businesses, and this one offers what chains do not. Such an amazing place. The deli is by far my favorite. Fresh ingredients, made to order sandwiches and wraps. Salad options and dessert. Then to add to the amazing they also have a General Store all in one. Hand packed items from old fashion candies to beans, grains, rice and so much more. Jellys galore! Chef section with cooking and cutting utensils. A herb and essential oils section with natural medicines to choose from. A old fashion fountain soda options and so much more. Wow, best deli sandwich I have had in a while! I did a custom with Turkey, white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and herb Mayo. The thin fresh cut Turkey and sourdough really make it! It came with a good pickle too. The store itsself also has alot to offer like snacks, jellies, decor- similar to other general or amish stores. I did notice they had alot more health foods. We also tried the sunshine trail mix, which was okay, and the chocolate covered coffee beans and we really did not care for those. Overall, would def come back for another sandwiches. read more

I have driven by this place quite a bit and was curious about it, so I stopped in with the family. It's kind of an odd place that mixes kitschy localized items intended for tourists with deli food to order, Amish furniture, and a grocery type store. It's a bit like a catch-all store in West Jefferson or Blowing Rock. I didn't order any food, so I have no opinion on that. The furniture was all of the poly-resin stuff, and it appeared to be fairly well-made and comfortable. Probably great for outdoor seating, appeared to be good quality, and not cheap. The touristy side sells a lot of stuff like walking sticks, cooking utensils, jams, jellies, pickled eggs, shirts, and various other things. They do have a nice selection of Rada cutlery, which has a quality American made product like that I've only seen available online. The grocery side is good if you want some more unique items that you might find at a high-end grocer. You can buy good local-ish milk, bags of bulk items like wheat berries, oats, flax, bran, etc. There was a lot of snack and candy items. I bought some smoked cheese and non-homogenized milk and a couple of hand pies. The cheese is from Michigan, average stuff. The milk is from Heritage Harvest Farm in Pfafftown NC and is amazing. Overall, this store is worth a visit, but I probably have no need or desire to return. read more

My friend and I stopped by here on our visit to Mount Aerie. It was great! What a fun and interesting establishment to visit. I purchased some interesting traditional and southern items. We even bought some fresh turnovers (Yum!) and garden seeds. The bathroom was clean and the staff were super friendly. On a business trip I stopped here looking for something local and not heavy for greasy and not did this hit the mark. I did a "make my own sandwich" and loaded it to the gills. While waiting I walked around the store and would have gone broke shopping if I didn't have a meeting to go to. There are so many amazing treats and locally made items that I wanted to try or bring home. The staff and owner were so helpful and nice it felt the most welcoming I had felt during the entire trip! Not really sure what to say... This was unlike any general store I've ever been to. It seems more like a convenience store where people came to buy their groceries. This store doesn't know what it's supposed to be. It had a deli with an eating area around the corner, a small section for Amish foods, loads of candy, and a small section for gifts. Not the place to go while stopping in town if looking for a touristy shop. read more

Wow! Such a sandwich! Avoid this place if you're not hungry or just bring a friend and share. Bread and fixings are really fresh, high quality, and piled on. Everything is built to order so expect it to take a little longer than average. Don't come for fast food. Maybe also avoid the tuna cause they may be out and this is the South. We only eat tuna when we're broke or if the power's gone out. Order your food first then shop around. You'll find lots of goodies and grains. I like the belts and Farm to Feet socks. Neat store to check out, they have tons of varieties of candies and snack items that they've packaged in small bags and containers along with bulk packaged spices and baking supplies. They also have a big variety of Amish jarred goods like jellies, jams & pickles and a section with Amish furniture. They also have a deli counter that makes a variety of sandwiches made with Amish meats and cheeses with fresh baked breads. Next time I stop I'll have to try a sammich from the deli. read more

What an absolute shame! I went into the store for the first time this afternoon with my family and wasn't in the store five minutes before an employee approached me asking if I had a blanket to cover up with while I breast-fed my baby. I told her no, and she told me well we need to figure out a way to be more discreet. You have got to be kidding me! Not only is breast-feeding protected by law in all 50 states but North Carolina specifically has additional laws further protecting it. I was feeding baby with my shirt pulled down almost to her face, I'm not sure other than completely covering baby how much more discrete I could've been. She chose to draw more attention to not only me and my baby but herself by even addressing it. I have been to a lot of places and a lot of states and this is the first time ever in my life and breast-feeding two different babies that I have ever been asked to cover up. You have lost mine and my family's business indefinitely! Your employees clearly need more training and education on the matter! read more

It's not that this establishment doesn't offer great merchandise, much of which is hard to find in a small town - their Reuben sandwich rivals the best NYC deli- but the fact that they annually host a birthday party for a Confederate general, and offer selling space to proponents of that general's legacy, is reason enough to stay away. I believe strongly in shopping local, and have often spent my dollars at Mill Creek in the past, but no more. I will drive to Winston-Salem or shop online, but I will give no more of my hard-earned cash to a business that advocates for the Confederacy and supports slavery and those who fought to maintain slavery. I will miss those delicious Reubens, but not enough to sell my soul, as Mill Creek General Store has obviosly done. read more

This was my third experience eating lunch here. You place your order at the deli counter by filling out a sandwich order form and wait in the adjacent dining area for your meal to arrive. For some curious reason, the wait time seems to be longer than most other delis although I have yet to be disappointed in the sandwiches. Serving sizes are generous, so much so in fact, that one sandwich can easily be split between two average appetitites. Service is limited and mainly provided by shy teenagers. I have had the chicken salad croissant (a little sweet), the Italian on sourdough (ham minced?!) and the Mabry Mill combo (no complaints). You might want to request light condiments as all were over flowing with such. The store is clean throughout and also includes an expansive general store. Be warned that its candy by the pound and shelf after shelf of baked goodies, although bit made in house, is very tempting. If you are not very careful you can easily drop $20 on stuff you had no intention of buying and absolutely no need for. (Sadly, I fall for it every time,) Overall experience is definitely worth visit. read more

They have a delicious selection of grilled sandwiches named for local mills. My personal favorite is the Shorty's Mill, an Italian meats sandwich. Their flavor combinations are spot on. Easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Sandwiches come in a combo with chips and in house mixed fountain drink or tea. Various coffees are also available. So I am on the fence post about this store really just the deli portion. I work in Mt Airy and the last 2 times I have been here the service has been anything but sub par. The first time I waited 15-20 minutes to get my sandwich and eventually had to go back to the deli bar and ask if my food was ready. In which case it was they just never brought it out to me and my co-worker had already finished her lunch. The second time which was this past week I again waited 15-20 minutes for my sandwich (again co-worker has already received and ate hers) just to have to go back to the counter again and ask where my food was. Only to be greeted by a very rude girl who obviously would rather not be at work that day. The sandwich was very good I really like the pimento cheese there that is why I will give it 4 stars. I will say the potato soup was not good at all it tastes sour I took one bite and immediately regretted it (the only thing I have had there that was bad). Every single time I have had an issue though the excuse was "we are training new people" which should not be an excuse at all. Nobody should have to go get their own food or even ask where it is when your co-worker has already ate her whole meal. Other than the deli (rant over) everything else about this place is spot on you can go grab literally whatever you need such as jelly, bread, chips even candy. The ice cream is so good too and the people at the front of the store checking you out are always so sweet and kind. read more
