    Mixed berry smoothie

This is a wonderful place to stop in for a morning / lunch visit. They have multiple options to select from. I went for the morning rush and enjoyed the mixed berry smoothie. My breakfast sandwich was fresh and the bacon was just the way I like it Crispy!! The muffin is a must purchase if you have a sweet tooth. Overall a clean and friendly neighborhood spot to enjoy yourself at!

What a great little local spot in the heart of downtown Galax! I was on a weekend drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and started craving a big cup of black coffee. Briar Patch popped up in my location, and I decided to venture a few miles north into Virginia to give it a go. First of all, the place is adorable and charming. When you're visiting a small, off-the-beaten-path mountain town, Briar Patch is exactly the type of place that you hope to find. Although I was just stopping in for coffee today, it looks like they have a pretty extensive food menu -- including a respectable barbecue selection (even whole hog!). One thing to note is that because this place is so dang lovely, it can get a bit crowded. And although there is a marketplace attached to the cafe, it looks like they have different operating hours. When I arrived I had to walk through the marketplace side to go to the restroom, but all of the lights were off over the merchandise and there was no one working over there. Very much appreciated the attention to detail outside of the cafe. Pumpkins, bails of hay, and strings of lights rounded off this picturesque little gem of a find.

    Sausage Roll that I loved

It's places like this that make you not want to leave. We visited for the 4th of July holiday and we really lucked out on being so close to downtown Galax. This town is on its way to big things and the Briar Patch marketplace and cafe is leading the way. Located right off of Main St there is nearby public parking. We were fueling up for our day on the New River and needed coffee and carbs. Thankfully Briar Patch delivered. I ordered a sausage roll and cafe mocha and my love went with a bagel and the red eye. Delicious!!! In fact I loved my sausage roll so much I've started making them at home, though I haven't quite perfected them yet. The antique shop is fabulous with a little bit of everything. Next time we are there we definitely want to take the time to check out the record selection. Since we were on our way to float on the river and rain was called for in the afternoon we were short on time. Had a chance to meet the owner who was lovely and you can tell she loves the town and is passionate about what she does! Definitely stop in if you find yourself in this great mountain town!

Awesome breakfast! Best place in town to grab a bite! Fast service, delicious food, and friendly staff! Kinda like eating breakfast in your own kitchen (only better cause there's nothing to clean up). You gotta try this place!

Breakfast casserole (I had started eating it) and a sausage roll.

This place is a little ways away from most of "the action", has plentiful on-site parking, and combines coffee shop + bakery + general store in one location. The store is relatively new to West Jefferson and opened within the last few years. It's family owned and operated, and the staff members who were working on the day of my visit could not have been lovelier. The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is because I felt like the selection of merchandise in the general store was not as eclectic as most general stores I've visited. The majority of the merchandise either fell into what felt like a "live, laugh, love" version of a feminine / children's esthetic, or was downstairs in a section literally called "the man cave". With so many amazing local merchants and artists throughout the West Jefferson community, it would have been nice to see a few more options that fell between these two groups and were maybe a bit more neutral. While I very much enjoyed exploring the store and looking through everything, when it came time to actually purchase something for myself or to use as a gift, I really couldn't settle on anything that would be a good fit.

There is a decent amount of jewelry, kitchen items, holiday decor, and clothes (upstairs). The coffee shop downstairs is also a nice touch to the store-I recommend stopping in there first and drinking your coffee as you shop. There was plenty of parking and it was easy to locate. It's unique and separate from the rest of historic downtown West Jefferson which makes it an easy recommendation to anyone looking for gifts.

We like Mast and always enjoy the products and atmosphere. We drove on our road trip to Johnson City, Tennessee from our home near Winston-Salem. It was getting late so we noted the location and decided to stop on our return trip home when we anticipated we would have more time. We arrived in the early afternoon of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and after following the line of cars to the back parking lot, we were amazed to see how many people were there! The small front parking area was full and the much larger rear parking lot was almost full. We did not think it was possible that everyone was visiting the general store, partly because it looks much smaller from the outside. As we walked toward the rear porch entrance, there was a Boy Scout Troop making kettle corn with a large kettle, butter, sugar, salt and corn and stirring it with a big paddle. It smelled delicious and we knew we needed to buy some on our way back to the car. After entering the building, we could see the entire parking lot contained all those people inside the general store, it was very busy but it appeared they had an adequate amount of employees. Mast features outdoor gear, home decor, knives, shoes, clothing, gift related items and food. They also have a large barrel candy area. We picked up a few things we felt we could not live without. On our way out, we purchased a bag of the kettle corn from the Boy Scouts and enjoyed munching on it while also supporting a good cause. It was so delicious with the combination of butter and sugar. A definite treat that we hadn't eaten in a long time. The original store is a must stop if you are driving through the area. We also recommend stopping at any of their other locations as well. They have many items you may not find elsewhere.

Away from that small shoe building, half each for men and women, we went to the main building a seemingly turn of the century wooden floored building where there is a candy section and, yes, I bought some old time candy, which was $5.99 a pound as I recall. Lots of old time kitchen utensils, ceramic cookware, kid's toys, hunting and outdoor wear. Then to the main hiking and hiking shoes for men where they had some which were 25% off. Jim, a clerk, came up as I was looking around and politely asked if he could help me find something in the Keen shoes I was poking through. Told that I was looking for an 11 1/2 size, but there were no half sizes. As sometimes shoes can run a bit large he asked if I wanted to try on an 11 and he would go look for an 11 1/2 if the 11 would not fit. I had just determined that the 11 wasn't for me, and Jim came back. Now you know how I came to purchase my Keen Targee IV WP MEN, size 11.5 at 25% off. Checking us out was another friendly, chatty and efficient employee (as all of their folks are) named Rhonda. Like I said, you "just gotta" visit, and maybe spend a few bucks. We did!
