This is new drive thru/drive in restaurant on South Main Street in Sparta, NC…read more The menu offers a variety of sandwiches, burgers, and hotdogs. There is no dining room, only drive-through or curb service. Being a hotdog aficionado, I ordered the two hotdogs, fries, and drink special. This has the opportunity to be a great hotdog! However, because the business is new and very popular, these dogs were assembled in a hurry and were a bit sloppy. With a little more attention this dog would've been great. And I'm guessing that because they're new they just don't have their system worked out well enough to handle the crowd. So let's address the dog itself. The hotdog, an all beef Frank, was apparently cooked on the grill, which is a good thing. It was flavorful and a pretty good size dog by comparison to some. The bun was toasted, as it should be, on the grill and was just perfect. The dressings is where it started to fall apart. Mustard was flopped on one end, but not spread evenly over the dog, and really should be under the dog. The chili, what little there was of it, was pretty tasty. I just like my dogs with lots of chili. The slaw was sweet and crunchy as slaw should be, but it was also rather haphazardly spread over the dog. The onions were crisp and fresh. So all in all, this was a decent hotdog; however, with a little more time, just to touch more time, it could've been a great hotdog. The french fries were excellent. Cooked perfectly, right amount of salt, and served hot. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt being new and all and will try it again next time I'm in Sparta.

The atmosphere is more cramped than you'd expect from the outside, with limited seating options and a rather small inside area. There was some outside seating but it was very cold and windy the day we went and that was expectedly empty. We were able to cram the 5 of us into a booth (good thing kids are small!). Service was decent though understaffed, and our server was very friendly! Trojan Patio definitely meets expectations for a local breakfast diner. The grill is visible, and no, it doesn't look like strict cleanliness is the first priority (but let's be real, that adds flavor right?) The menu had many options, and adults and children alike were equally satisfied with our meals. The coffee was good and served quickly. Really my only complaint is around the cramped space, which I realize is hard for them to correct. It's a great local dive for breakfast and with more space, I can imagine they would thrive! We're rarely in Sparta, but would not hesitate to return next time we're up there.
