Please do not patronize Creek Bottom Brewing. It is not a safe place for women or children. Creek Bottom is at the center of a local controversy involving a young man named William Ayers. In 2023, Ayers was convicted of child rape (carnal knowledge of a child) and abduction. He was released from prison last year, back into our community. Upon his release, Creek Bottom Brewing began employing him to work in the brewery--as a known convicted child sex offender. In February, while working for Creek Bottom, Ayers was arrested AGAIN for ANOTHER sexual assault, strangulation, brandishing a firearm, and abduction by force. It got a little media attention as the "Valentine's Day Rape." Recently added to his list of charges is possession of child porn and sexual abuse of an animal. Where does Creek Bottom come in, beyond offering a job to a known child sex offender? William Ayers' parents are the owners of Creek Bottom. They made the choice to employ him at their brewery, along with their many young women employees and the families who visit the restaurant. Our dollars spent at the brewery unwittingly went directly towards Ayers' paycheck. Many community members feel that Creek Bottom's owners have made horrendous decisions that endanger our community by choosing to have their son employed at the brewery, and by supporting/enabling him in other ways. It is readily apparent that Ayers' parents employ pricey high-powered out-of-town attorneys to defend their son from his charges. (Courtroom interactions between those attorneys and the father of William Ayers reinforce this, with the attorneys pulling Daddy Ayers aside for extended conferencing before making motions.) A couple of days ago, Ayers was offered bail set at $900,000. That means that if his supporters/enablers come up with a $90k bail bond agent fee, or $900k on their own, Ayers will AGAIN be released into our community. All of this is a matter of public record: past convictions, state sex offender registry that showed Ayers working at Creek Bottom until his latest arrest, ownership of Creek Bottom, recent charges, and ongoing court case with private legal defense. All members of our community can and should make their own INFORMED choices here. Sending your money in Creek Bottom's direction could literally help lead to this individual being released into our community once again. Endanger the wealth that is supporting him, and we may be able to make a real difference for community safety. Please don't unwittingly contribute to a William Ayers legal defense fund or to bailing him out to walk among us again. If you see fit, stand by us in this effort. read more

We would frequently have lunch or dinner at Creek Bottom Brewing with friends/neighbors. But...no matter when or what we ordered the food never came out at the same time! No explanations or answers as to when the rest of the entrees would be out was weird. Whoever would get their food were told to go ahead and eat so it didn't get cold. By the time the rest of the food arrived, they would be done theirs. I have never eaten at a restaurant where this was a constant occurrence!! read more

Service was quick and very friendly. Food was absolutely delicious. The brown/ BBQ sauce was one of the best I've had in awhile, pizza seemed to be very popular here. We also tried the teriyaki chicken wings which slid right off the bone perfectly. The nacho chips seemed homemade and were sooo good. They have some outside beer and cider options which is nice because they seem to specialize in a lot of IPAs. They also have a dog friendly patio area! They have a stage with live music frequently. We were back in town for the 4th of July and this was a must stop for our trip. This visit was even better than the first! Their menu has grown from what I remember, but we were there for the smoked wings so we had a bit of tunnel vision. Everyone in our group ordered smoked wings. My fiancé and I both got the Buffalo and my brother in law chose the sweet bbq. They were incredible! And the fries were the perfect balance of crispy and soft and nicely seasoned. I tried the lil wit rooster beer and it was *chefs kiss* perfect for a hot day before a float down the river. Service was improved from last visit too! We can't wait for our next trip up this way, and Creek Bottom is a big reason why! read more

Beer and food were not good. I do not recommend this place, but there aren't many options in Galax.

My Mom lives near here so I took them to dinner. We got there just as band was getting ready. They played rock and rockabilly. Sound was good. Nice atmosphere w all ages present but tends 45-65 yrs old. We all had burgers and fries. Burgers were excellent though two of the fries orders could have been hotter. The Gunslinger was very juicy but opt for bun if you want less bread. We had onion petal appetizers which arrived promptly and were very good, ...and piping hot! I had the Working Man Lager which was great especially for price ($5 pints, crazy good compared to PHX where I live). Service times were good considering it was the busiest time of the week. The smoked wings!! They are like no other wing I've ever had-fantastic! The service is hit and miss, although there are always lots of staff wandering around, they just won't make eye contact or engage with you. Inside or outside this brewery has great seating and even better service. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the beer offerings. We chose to share The Big Daddy which was the June burger of the month. It included 1/2 pound signature beef, beef brisket, caramelized onions, grilled mushrooms, house made sweet BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickles on a buttery toasted bun. Wow! It's definitely a share sandwich! We chose the house made pub chips for the side. The beer and cider were cold and nicely priced for a brewery. We finished with house made bourbon pecan pie. Smooth, creamy and packed with pecans. Impressed overall with this establishment- plenty of seating, nice motif and a laid back atmosphere for sure. The food was great and the beer was super cold! They have a huge beer selection and offer flights as well. Service was great! We sat outside on the covered patio where there was a stage and luckily there was also music that night. We were in town for the weekend camping on the New River and just popped in to check it out. They have a really neat place there, and some cool t shirts and merch. I'm normally not a fan of smoked wings because I like my wings crispy, but these were super crispy and cooked to perfection! Lunch today at Creek Bottom was a dream. Started off with a blond peach pale ale beer. Super light and refreshing!! The pulled pork sandwich was amazing! You get to choose your BBQ sauce, I selected Va Tangy which had the right combination of sweet and sour for my pork. They make hand cut fries that are cooked perfectly with a little crunch to them. Bonus-Creek Bottom is Pet Friendly so my little dog joined us for lunch and our waitress brought her a water bowl. Came in about 3:00. It's a casual seat yourself place. We sat outside and were greeted by a couple of staff on our way. Placed order and got food very quickly. There were probably 3-4 other customer groups at the time. Smash burger was fantastic with fries and chips with bar sauce to dip. All was very good. read more

Creek Bottom is good (pizza, beer, wings) that I make it a destination and drive 1.5 hours to enjoy it. It's a nice drive too. It's a great combination of a restaurant, brewery, and bottle shop. The bottle shop selection isn't huge, but has some pretty unique picks (especially VA beers). They also sell their own beers to go. VA allows +15% beers to be sold so you can score some big boys not found in NC here. Their beers are great. On this most recent trip I tried a couple IPAs and a Christmas milk stout. All 4/5 or better! They usually have at least 5 or more of their own beers on tap so it's great for unique check ins for the untapped junkies. The food is fantastic! I love their pizza and wings. On my recent trip they were a little short staffed (pretty common everywhere these days) so they had responded by limiting the menu. I appreciated that approach and everything they were still doing was great. With pizza out of the picture that day I went in for wings and Buffalo shrimp. The winds are smoked and consistently some of the best I've had! Tip: order the sauce on the side. The sauces are great, but those wings don't need them! I was so surprised and pleased with my experience at Creek Bottom. To be honest in some small rural towns good food and upscale bar selections can be non existent . Creek Bottom brewing excels with great bar food , from sandwiches to great pizza. The beer selection is extensive and beyond what they brew. I was part of a group of four and we had app of brussel sprouts , a hot honey chicken sandwich, pizza and fish and chips entree. The service was good and they had live music on a Saturday afternoon that was very entertaining . The bar selection of bourbons was too notch and the big surprise. I learned the location had been flooded by the Hurricane Helene and was under water and rebuilt the bar and got the place back in business. I was humbled by their story. I will make sure to return when I visit the area. I did not take pictures as we were caught in the moment and after leaving I realized what a great experience. read more

We were traveling on vacation and ended up in a hotel in Hillsville right off the highway with our dog. Found this on Yelp as a place with outdoor seating. Food was excellent, my wife had a barbecue pork sandwich and I had delicious brisket tacos. And they brought a water bowl for our dog. The last time I ate at Creek Bottom was 2018- four years later I was so impressed by all the updates! What used to feel like a cramped "locals only" hole in the wall now has multiple spacious seating areas along with a full bar (rather than just house brews). The Cuban sandwich was delicious, great seasoning and sauce- paired with the house fries which were piping hot when served and hard to put down. Me and my family (four of us ) went on Mother's Day fully expecting to wait.. no problem! Sat down. Waited 20 mins to be told it would be another 20 mins before they could take our order due to it being busy. 45 mins later she comes back to take our order. Almost 75 mins later our food comes out one dish at a time. I'm full understanding that servers have no control over the kitchen and wait times and how fast the kitchen can cook. But when other tables get sat, leave, eat, ...what infuriated me was lack of communication. I'm empathetic until you don't come and at least let us know what's going on. We only stayed because we're here out of town, we looked up other places and figured if we left we would have long wait times there. Server did take off my meal because it was last to come out. Food representation was nice, place was clean and I'm sure any other day it's a nice place to go. However I feel because they could tell we weren't regulars.. they weren't concerned :( read more

My daughter and I were staying in Galax for a night and got carry out from here. I ordered the pulled pork plate with sweet potato fries and hush puppies. She ordered the pulled pork sandwich with regular fries. Unfortunately the fries and hush puppies were burned black and not a lick of salt on them. The pulled pork was okay. I did not care for the bbq sauce. It was was too sweet and not much zing. My DD's fries were unsalted, cold and soggy. She liked the bbq sauce. The place was super busy and we did get our order pretty quickly. If I was in person, I would have sent it back and gotten new fries or something else. With a take out order, what am I really going to do? I am not trekking back out to the place. It seemed like a popular place and maybe we just got unlucky. I might try it again but would probably try in person if we did. I have to rate it on our experience, not what I hope it might be. Creek Bottom Brewing is a total gem in the middle of absolutely nowhere, Virginia. We found it via Yelp while staying in an area cabin. The vibes it gives off are way more like a bigger city brewery, and we were super happy to find it. The staff was incredibly friendly and our server was super attentive without being obnoxious. We loved the outdoor-ish space on a sunny day. Most of their 'outdoor' tables are in a covered garage like space with several roll up doors. It gives the feeling out being outside without really being outside. The tables were spaced out and there was a small stage in the corner for live music. We found ourselves at one of their four small tables in the actual outside. With the giant doors rolled up, we felt very much like we were included with the rest of the tables. Their indoor space was super cool, and seemed like somewhere I'd hang out once Covid isn't a thing. They over a really nice craft beer selection considering their location. We ordered a couple of draft beers and chili fries. The beers we gave a unanimous 'meh'. I ordered the blueberry sour and while it was purple and had an obvious blueberry flavor, there was nothing sour about it. That being said, it still wasn't a bad beer. We were super excited for our chili fries. It was cold outside and we were eager for something warm. The menu roped us in with the description of house-made chili, which bragged of their house-made stout in it. The chili was really good. The fries were fresh and obviously not just frozen fries. The only downside was that they were swimming canned cheese sauce. If ordering again, we'd ask for like a quarter of what they normally use. All in all, a great spot to have a beer. If we were staying longer, I'm sure we'd find ourselves here again. And we'd likely be ordering one of their signature pizzas. They looked pretty tasty. read more

Food was great, beer selection was good, only complaint was the "outdoor" seating. I called ahead to ask about heated outdoor dining, and was advised they did have heaters in their outdoor space. Upon arrival their "outdoor" space is a fully enclosed garage like structure in the front of the building - that's NOT outdoors! As there was only one other party, we took a table in the far side of the large room. (Eventually others sat near us, so we left faster than we really wanted to.) Fried brussel sprouts were crispy and just the right amount of greasy. Personal pizzas were plenty for two meals and very good.
