Just got back from breakfast. The service was great. I asked about the buckwheat pancakes having never had them. The wonderful waitress (unfortunately I never got her name) brought me a small sample. I've experienced this at wineries and breweries but never for pancakes. The restaurant isn't fancy but it's homey and the pancakes were delicious. I actually went with the regular ones. Drove right past the post office.. and saw this Resturant. So here we r eatin breakfast first. I'm trying to keep it simple today. Mushroom n chz omelete, grits and biscuit. Yep u know it... Bf chef salad and side hamburger steak. The waitress look was priceless .. huh u do want no sides??? Hehe. She turned up her nose and made a face.. really omg. Guess it's her place she can do what she wants. She did come around twice and we weren't ready ( first time here) still reading menu. She forgot all about us. This is your classic diner! It is the only restaurant in town that is always open - regardless of the season. It is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. I have eaten here several times over the years and am never disappointed. Today I had breakfast and some of the best country ham that I have eaten! We also had biscuits and gravy which is a traditional country sausage gravy - yum. The outside of the diner and inside decor are not much to brag about but the food makes up for it - as well as the price. We had two full breakfast plates and coffee for about $12. First time here....will be last time here! When we say we got prompt service and food came out and was brought to us. That was it. We sat with empty cups. Every waitress walked by and still nothing. We asked for sprinkle cheese...never got it until my daughter when up to the counter and got it. She also went up to get a refill and everyone walked past her until finally she went to the end of the counter where they couldn't get around her for a refill. We stopped at this little gem of a place while traveling on a southern camping trip with our son, 32, this past August along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We actually loved the food and found it quite reasonable. Our waitress, Suzanne, talked my son into topping of his meal with a freshly made apple turnover, which she enhanced with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh bacon bits (YES! BACON) She said it was a favorite of hers and, wow, we could see why! I swear, this place exemplifies the term "southern hospitality." The wait staff and the locals all were super friendly to us. This place is a great value, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and near I-77 in an area with very few (no?) other choices. First of all the parking lot was packed, mostly with Virginia cars but some others as well. We were warmly greeted, and the clientele only stared at us for a moment. Our server was friendly, and when I asked which items were homemade she informed me that almost everything they do is from scratch. I went with the fried chicken, which came with two sides (I chose slaw and green beans). The chicken was HOT, crispy, and really good -- quite a large portion. I really enjoyed the slaw, and the beans tasted like the way my Grandma from Oklahoma used to prepare them, which is a good thing. If you are hungry, don't pass this place up.... Just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Fancy Gap exit sits the Lake View Restaurant. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, a little money goes a long way. I had dinner there on 7/15/26 and opted for the catfish with two sides, and apple pie for dessert. This was not the first visit; I've been there before. Stopped at this place for an afternoon lunch. A very happy surprise. Doesn't look like much but very clean and orderly. Country home cooking with good portions just like mama used to make; especially the fries - made the old fashioned way - fresh, not frozen. Excellent tea and coffee and if we were staying in the area we would definitely be there for breakfast. We stopped in Fancy Gap at the Lake View Restaurant for lunch while driving from Galax to Floyd on the Blue Ridge Parkway. On this stretch of the parkway there were very limited options for lunch. It was easy on and off. It's a small roadside establishment with a basic menu, but the burger I had was cooked to perfection and delish! They had flavorful ice tea, a yummy chocolate pie--I had a taste of Hub's, the tab was really inexpensive, and our waitress was lovely. The building certainly looked like it could use a facelift. We found out that the following Monday it was going on the auction block, as the owners were retiring and moving on. Shame, too, because we'd definitely stop there again on future trips up/down the BRP. We hope new owners will keep the place going, particularly so the staff will continue to be employed. read more

As we were trying to decide if wa were going to eat lunch there, she noticed very clean, lace curtains and that is what was he deciding factor to eat there. My wife and I went here to have a nice dinner but the staff, especially the manager were very rude. I'm a disabled veteran and I'm not sure if it was my dark skin color or my wife's tattoos but the looks and comments we were subjected to were unacceptable and very inappropriate. Staff and locals are very unfriendly so we just decided to leave and went to a nice little Pasta & Grill down the road where we were treated as regular customers and with respect. This could be a great place if it truly was homemade. The fried foods were frozen, the chicken pie was only warm no where near hot.. Tasted good with large pieces of chicken would have been great if it was hot. Corn bread was hot but not authentic and little flavor.
