    Red Curry with Chicken

Very attentive, personable and helpful servers. It's good to see people who seem to enjoy their jobs in the service industry: 5- stars Attractively adorned, spacious, tidy cafe with both table and booth choices as well as bright window views and more cozy, low-lit seating. Bathrooms were very clean: 5-stars Now for the most important part of the review.... the food. And we love Thai food. We began with the appetizer sampler. It was good though each appetizer was on the smaller side. The crispy spring rolls are very small compared to many Thai restaurants (about the size of a children's jumbo crayon). With dipping sauce, it was flavorful but tasted more like wonton than filling. The dumplings were interesting; not quite like any other dumpling I've had that has a solid shell with filling. It was more of an open pouch with filling. Tasty but not traditional. The chicken satay was also small and just good with the peanut dipping sauce: 3-stars We then each had a small soup. My husband had the Tom Yum with shrimp. It was delicious. Perfectly spicy, flavorful and nicely filled with vegetables and shrimp: 5-stars. I had the creamy coconut soup with chicken and added spice (medium). The soup broth felt bland, it was odd to have tomatoes in it, and the spice came from added spicy sesame oil which just floated on the top. It was good, in an average way: 3-stars. We shared a Red Curry with chicken and rice entree, mild plus. Very brothy which I love, yet a little watery compared to some versions of this dish which are creamier. The chicken was tender yet lacked flavor of its own, depending solely on the broth for taste. The vegetables were nice. The compliment of flavors was good and the spice level "just a bit" was true to description. A solid entree yet just shy of stellar: 4- stars. Enjoyed the large glasses of ice water with our meal and the attentiveness of the servers in keeping the glasses full. These small gestures are often missing as small business owners try to do more with less support. Appreciated. Our meal for two, which was very satisfying and filling, came to $39.00 (plus tip). I've read a few Yelp reviews claiming the prices are outrageous. I would disagree. A nice dinner with great service for under $20/person is very reasonable: 5-stars. We understand that the current owners, who are Laotian, took over from the original owners about a year ago. They seem to be doing a solid job bringing traditional Thai cuisine to the community of Mount Airy, which is such a nice addition to this community.

Thai Cafe is easily in my top three favorite restaurants for Mt. Airy, and for very good reasons. The restaurant has low playing music, dark interior and minimal lighting, and it's such a calm and relaxing place to come in and enjoy a meal. I've yet to come in and see it extremely busy or loud, and I know I'm always getting nice staff, quick service, and a peaceful meal each time I visit. You definitely get a lot of food for the price here especially during lunch (11am-2:30pm), where entrées are $8-10 and come with rice soup (or salad for an extra $2.50) and a spring roll on the side. I've yet to be able to finish all my food during lunch if that's any indication of just how much food you get for the price. It's also worth mentioning that the menu is really straightforward, perfectly simplified, and leaves you excited to try several things without overwhelming you. Compared to other Thai restaurants I've visited, this one definitely surprises me with how good the food is, and it's especially great for introducing friends and family to Thai food for the first time. As a vegetarian this place is especially a staple for me because there are so many options that can have tofu as the protein as well as some of the appetizers, soups, and salads that are innately vegetarian friendly. I don't feel like I'm having to spend more money than my meat-eating friends to get a decent meal like I do at many other places in the area, and I can actually really enjoy exploring the menu here instead of being restricted to two or three options. It can be really easy to get burnt out on burgers, BBQ, diner food, bar food, and Mexican food in Mt. Airy, and Thai Cafe adds some much-needed diversity.

This place is amazing! I had the drunken noodles with tofu and no egg and they are absolutely amazing! Like, better than at the best Thai places in San Francisco or Los Angeles (I lived in both places). The veggies are incredibly tasty and very, very fresh, they are using fresh basil and the sauces are simple but very aromatic! The waitresses are very nice and treated me kindly even though I have a mild Romanian accent (generally people in NC aren't nice about it). All in all, this is an amazing place!

I recently moved up here and I'm so grateful that we have a Thai restaurant in the area. Quick service, good food and reasonably priced.

This place used to be the best and my wife and I were frequent customers. Our last few visits and orders were very disappointing.

Delicious food and friendly staff. The sweet and sour chicken is delicious and so are their dumplings. They have a great wine selection.

Spectacular! The presentation of the sushi on a boat/ship was a work of art. And the sushi was incredible! Five star!

I came here with some of my team members for lunch on a cold Monday, and it did not disappoint. We…read morewere a party of four, but promptly seated upon arrival, even though they were pretty busy. The ambience is clean, cozy and dimly lit. We were one of about 7 to 8 tables present in a restaurant, with only one server working. Even then, we were promptly serviced, and didn't have to wait a long time at all for our food Altogether, we ended up ordering one order of shrimp egg rolls, one order of veggie egg rolls, one order of shrimp summer rolls, two beef and meatball pho, one combination pho, and one chicken pho. Everything was brought out piping hot, and of course, the pho herbs, condiments, and veggies were super fresh and served in abundance The eggrolls all came out hot and fresh. The wrappers were perfectly crispy on the outside, and the filling was fresh on the inside. I did not taste the summer rolls, but everyone said they were excellent. I personally had the combination pho and wish it had a little bit more meat. I would say the amount was less than at other Vietnamese restaurants, but overall it was still really delicious and filling. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was perfectly seasoned. The total for the table was only $75, which I felt was reasonable for four people and the amount of food we received. Overall, a solid Vietnamese restaurant in Winston. I look forward to returning in the future.

I really wish Winston Salem had a great Banh Mi available. There are some good Pho restaurants but…read morethey don't serve Banh Mi usually and when they do it's not quite the authentic version I'm looking for. I had the Banh Mi at What Da Pho in the past and remember it was good so that's what I ordered this time. Additionally we ordered crab wontons and summer rolls. The restaurant is a little hidden but if you park in the parking structure adjacent to the restaurant it's super easy to get inside. First impressions are it's quiet- no music in the dining room, and the decor is sort of an afterthought with scotch tape holding LED lights to the walls and some Asian inspired pictures but not very well thought out. It's Ok, I'm not coming for the decor. The service is a little lacking. They are giving the bare minimum here so don't expect your server to be too friendly. The crab wontons and summer rolls arrived quickly. The crab wontons were super hot and crispy right from the deep fryer. They were filled with a delicious imitation crab and cream cheese mixture and when dipped in the sweet chili sauce they were exactly the thing I was craving. The summer rolls were equally as fresh and delicious. The filling of cold rice noodles, crisp lettuce and shrimp then dipped in the accompanying peanut sauce was just as delicious. We ordered one pork and one beef Banh Mi. The first thing I noticed was how plentiful the meat was in each one. Usually it's a light sandwich but these were very hefty in comparison to others I've had. My meat was very savory and had a very tender texture, almost like pot roast. It was also the juiciest pork I've ever had in a Banh mi. The picked vegetables were also really good but both our sandwiches were missing the jalapeno I've come to expect. My husband really enjoyed his beef one as well but we both noticed how the bread lacked that crusty flaky quality that Vietnamese baguettes normally have. This was more of a sub roll with a chewy texture and softer crust. The flavors were great, I just missed the textures I have come to expect in an authentic Banh mi. Our spot in Greensboro will still be my favorite but when I don't want to trek out that far, I can get my fix at What Da Pho.
