Yummy pho, broth was flavorful good portions of meat and noodles. Just what I needed on a day where I felt under the weather.

I really wish Winston Salem had a great Banh Mi available. There are some good Pho restaurants but they don't serve Banh Mi usually and when they do it's not quite the authentic version I'm looking for. I had the Banh Mi at What Da Pho in the past and remember it was good so that's what I ordered this time. Additionally we ordered crab wontons and summer rolls. The restaurant is a little hidden but if you park in the parking structure adjacent to the restaurant it's super easy to get inside. First impressions are it's quiet- no music in the dining room, and the decor is sort of an afterthought with scotch tape holding LED lights to the walls and some Asian inspired pictures but not very well thought out. It's Ok, I'm not coming for the decor. The service is a little lacking. They are giving the bare minimum here so don't expect your server to be too friendly. The crab wontons and summer rolls arrived quickly. The crab wontons were super hot and crispy right from the deep fryer. They were filled with a delicious imitation crab and cream cheese mixture and when dipped in the sweet chili sauce they were exactly the thing I was craving. The summer rolls were equally as fresh and delicious. The filling of cold rice noodles, crisp lettuce and shrimp then dipped in the accompanying peanut sauce was just as delicious. We ordered one pork and one beef Banh Mi. The first thing I noticed was how plentiful the meat was in each one. Usually it's a light sandwich but these were very hefty in comparison to others I've had. My meat was very savory and had a very tender texture, almost like pot roast. It was also the juiciest pork I've ever had in a Banh mi. The picked vegetables were also really good but both our sandwiches were missing the jalapeno I've come to expect. My husband really enjoyed his beef one as well but we both noticed how the bread lacked that crusty flaky quality that Vietnamese baguettes normally have. This was more of a sub roll with a chewy texture and softer crust. The flavors were great, I just missed the textures I have come to expect in an authentic Banh mi. Our spot in Greensboro will still be my favorite but when I don't want to trek out that far, I can get my fix at What Da Pho. read more

This place is off the beaten path in downtown Winston Salem. It's behind Kaleidium and unless you are looking for it it's hard to find. When you finally locate it, it will become o e of your go to places for Vietnamese cuisine. The Bahn Mi's are incredible, thou today for some reason mine did not have fresh jalapeños in it. The bread is soft and fresh. Meat has flavor and the veggies are also refreshing. The egg Bahn Mi is my new favorite and can be there take on a breakfast sandwich. For appetizers we got shrimp egg rolls which actually had shrimp in it, unlike other spots. The crab Rangoon/wontons were ok, inside was soft but too much pastry and the outer parts were a bit hard, possibly old. The shrimp lo mein had some colossal shrimp in it. Noodles were soft and mixed with shredded cabbage, carrots and bean sprouts, all well combined. Food overall is great. Ambiance is laid back and relaxing with comfortable seating inside and some outside. Server took our order quickly and food came out within a few minutes. However we never saw him after that, did not check on us, our drinks, or anything. We had to wave them over for a fork and a box to go after. I came here with some of my team members for lunch on a cold Monday, and it did not disappoint. We were a party of four, but promptly seated upon arrival, even though they were pretty busy. The ambience is clean, cozy and dimly lit. We were one of about 7 to 8 tables present in a restaurant, with only one server working. Even then, we were promptly serviced, and didn't have to wait a long time at all for our food Altogether, we ended up ordering one order of shrimp egg rolls, one order of veggie egg rolls, one order of shrimp summer rolls, two beef and meatball pho, one combination pho, and one chicken pho. Everything was brought out piping hot, and of course, the pho herbs, condiments, and veggies were super fresh and served in abundance The eggrolls all came out hot and fresh. The wrappers were perfectly crispy on the outside, and the filling was fresh on the inside. I did not taste the summer rolls, but everyone said they were excellent. I personally had the combination pho and wish it had a little bit more meat. I would say the amount was less than at other Vietnamese restaurants, but overall it was still really delicious and filling. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was perfectly seasoned. The total for the table was only $75, which I felt was reasonable for four people and the amount of food we received. Overall, a solid Vietnamese restaurant in Winston. Searched for something warm and saw this place and was curious because of its name. So we decided to try this place. At first it was a bit confusing when the "map" tells you to go through a business building (not realizing there's also a front entry) and follow the sign. The restaurant was small and quaint and had some customers. The gentleman that helped us to our table was very nice, welcoming, and attentive. Anyways... the menu was simple, I ordered the combo pho and my partner ordered the steak pho. It came out within a few minutes. I tried the broth without putting anything in it and it was a bit bland to me (I think it was missing the "umami") then I seasoned it with hoisin, sriracha, pepper, lemon and added basil leaves, and the soup tasted better. Cool days seem like the ideal time for pho, or at least that's the case in my mind. What Da Pho was able to fulfill my wishes with a healthy sized bowl of broth, noodles, shrimp and associated accoutrements -- and that's the "regular" size. Who knows what the large option entails? I felt the shrimp were cooked just right, without any sense of rubbery texture. The broth was nice, though maybe not the most flavorful I've had. Before the bowl came, I enjoyed a pair of pork egg rolls as an opening act. Pretty good start with those. Service today was excellent, as staff members were quick to check on me, prompt in addressing my wants, and on the spot with accurate orders. I've noticed the older employees are noticeably better with customer service skills than their younger counterparts, none of which were working front of house for my latest visit. The location still feels a bit contrived and dark, but I'm sure affordable space downtown is tough to find. If only they would elevate their banh mi game, I'd call on this place more frequently. Very cute and lowkey hidden spot on the first floor of what appears to be a commercial/apartment building. The pho was very good and very filling. After my initial visit, I came back to try the Bahn Mi sandwiches here. This is an item that is in scare supply in the WS area! I ordered one Pork ($6.50) and one Beef ($6.95). This is a rather small sandwich, the roll is no more than 6", and the protein filling is more than a little lite. Other than the protein, the ingredients are house mayo, pickled carrots, pickled, daikon, cucumber, and cilantro - the mayo was very thinly applied, and there was no pate, a very traditional item for this sandwich. The sandwiches were just OK , not nearly as good as the ones in Greensboro and Kernersville. All in all, these sandwiches are over price for what you get! read more

First time trying this place and it was excellent! Has that hole in the wall city vibe that emanates authenticity. I loved my pork bah mi. I had never had one before so I decided to try it. The pork was tender and flavorful. My son and I shared the steak and meatball pho. We loved the dish. For having only been open for three weeks, I was pretty impressed with how popular the restaurant was on a Tuesday night. Nestled in downtown Winston, you may find it a bit confusing to get to the location. I parked on the street and was told to take the elevator down to LG and go around the corner. The restaurant seemed hidden but it was practically packed by the time we sat down. The menu is pretty small and only includes a handful of appetizers, rice dishes and pho variations. Highly recommend getting their crab Rangoon and some Thai Tea to start out with. Food came out quick and hot. I really enjoyed their pho and will be coming back to sample more of the menu. The noodles were the perfect texture and the broth was inviting and savory. Overall a good pho place to check out if you're in the area. Extremely disappointing food, and poor service. The pho and the vermicelli were near-flavorless and very low on meat, and the lo mein was completely soggy. Wontons and spring rolls were barely tolerable. The service was very slow. Several of us finished our water and did not receive refills for at least 10 minutes, as they only came by once to top up water (and that was before we had been served food, so we did not need refills at the time). Also, the restaurant was difficult to access, as it was several layers inside a building. The exterior door had a sign that said "card access only," which was confusing (though the door did turn out to be unlocked). On the positive side, the atmosphere was pleasant and the restaurant clean. Overall, we will most certainly not be returning. read more

As soon as we walked in my girlfriend described this place as a "cute little place". It's a nice welcoming place to eat, we were welcomed immediately and seated, and water was brought very quickly. We were quick to decide what we wanted to eat and we enjoyed it all. The Pho is a great combination of flavors. First I think this place is good introduction to someone who hasn't had Vietnamese food. I order the P1. The Rare Steak Pho. I thought the brought was pretty good and flavorful and the meat. You gotta love a new Asian place in town, and even more when they bring the Pho! Location is a little weird, in a office building, but at least it's clearly marked so you can't miss it! Inside they have outfitted it in traditional Asian style, loved all the little accents. The menu has a lot of variety and something for everyone, we started with the summer rolls and the crab Rangoon. My friend loved the crab Rangoon, very crispy and full of cream cheese. The summer rolls were good, nice shrimp. Then we ordered the chicken pho, the noodles are long! With a little Siracha and lime, this became pretty addictive, shoulda seen me eating them noodles! Also shared the banh mi sandwich with chicken, this was my favorite. Pickled carrots and daikon, house mayo, cucumber and cilantro, on a warm crunchy roll, this was so flavorful and very crunchy! So so so happy to see such an authentic and high quality pho place in Winston Salem! My roommate and I are both Vietnamese and thought the quality of the food and authenticity of the food were amazing. Hearing the owners speak to each other in Vietnamese made me really reminiscent being home and when my parents make pho. My roommate and I both got a large combination pho which came with rare slices of beef, tendon, meatballs in a rich and umami pho broth with bouncy rice noodles. The fresh plate of greens and lime added a great citrus and crunchy balance to the dish. We had enough to eat our full and bring some home! We also split a pork banh mi which was so delicious, the bread was roasted and fluffy. Wish there was more filling but overall very satisfied. They also have vermicelli bowls and appetizers on the menu that we may try with time. I really hope they decide to expand their menu to include Vietnamese desserts like che or pandan waffle.
