I just dig this place. Crab Rangoon here are delicious- like a little pouch of wonderful - took one bite each at our table and we ordered another set. I liked the dish - might change up the protein next time. I don't like pad Thai from just anywhere but thought they have this dish down pat. UPDATE 5/6/2022: I ordered my go-to order of Red Curry and was looking forward to eating something really warm for my throat since I was feeling under the weather. I had to throw the entire curry away because it was SO SALTY, and I NEVER throw away food. There was so much salt in this curry that it actually BURNED my THROAT from how salty it was. I honestly think that they must've spilled a bag of salt in this batch of curry today. I revoke my 5 star review due to their lack of consistency and inadequate customer service. Let me start off by saying OMG this place was sooooo good! Visiting Winston Salem for a color guard show and decided to make it an entire weekend. Grabbed one of the Spin bikes chose a direction and we were on our way. We had spent the day roaming downtown, saw some local talented musicians and tried a few cocktail spots so food was a definite need. We stumble across CT and what a beautiful find. Charm Thai (CT) had what we both needed. My partner loves Pad Thai and I love everything broths and noodles. Needless to say we got everything we needed and more. The food was delicious, well prepared and seasoned. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend them to anyone and I can't wait to try them again. We enjoyed them so much on Saturday that we tried going back on Sunday but they were closed. Bummer lol read more

We were in downtown Winston on a cold Saturday night and wanted to eat some delicious food. On the initial visit, I enjoyed the Tom Yum soup, veggie spring rolls, spaghetti Pad Ke Mao, and the Thai coconut custard. The Tom Yum soup was good, it was light but flavorful. I enjoy a Tom Yum which has more of a kick. The Spaghetti Pad Ke Mao was my favorite item on the menu. I always wondered what Thai food would taste like with Italian noodles/pasta. It tastes great, similar to the Indian Chinese dishes. The Coconut custard is surprisingly good, unlike anything I have had to be honest. Food was really good but the owner was not very pleasant. He was rude & rushed me a lot. Also added some unexplained hidden charges to the final bill. He told me take credit card but then added additional service charge for it. Even to go boxes for left over food was an additional charge & the food was not very cheap for them to add on these extra charges. The place was ok from inside nothing great or bad. I just touched down in Winston-Salem and was craving some Thai food! Luckily Charm Thai was just outside my hotel, and had some good ratings, so I gave it a try. I ordered take out- one Pad See Eew, and one order of steamed dumplings from the appetizer menu. The steamed dumplings are actually more like Shu Mai that you get at Dim Sum, but were really good. However, the pad see eew was not the best, as it lacked flavor. Maybe I am just really use to the pad see eew I get in Washington, DC, but this dish was unfortunately mediocre. read more

Went here last night and I liked it. Good local downtown spot for Thai food and some sushi. I was a little worried only because I barely see anyone in here. I'm not sure why because the food was pretty good. I don't know if they remodeled or what but I've been here for 4 years and this was the first. I had some Nigori standard unfiltered sake to start off my meal. The menu is quite large and I took some time to go through it and ended up getting some of my same favorites. Started off with crab rangoon and they come in a plate of 5. I ate one and then took a pic hehe. The sweet and sour sauce was great and it came out piping hot. I was going to get sushi, but decided on Panang Curry with chicken and steak as the protein and kept the white rice. Good size portion for the price and the taste was there and I obviously added a bunch of spice to mine because I like it hot. The service was great. Although slow they were attentive, super nice, and laughed a few times. One of the servers who was mine got a tip from another table of change and said, "sometimes it happens" and just laughed. I don't know if I could have held it together without showing absolute disgust and frustration idiotic people, but he did well. All in all a close local place for me I will be back and you should try it out, I was pleasantly surprised. Not sure what they need to do to get more customers, maybe a happy hour or different signage out front. But worth a visit. Will try different dishes next time. read more

Interesting place around the hotel where we stayed. I had fusion Asian food before but this place served okay food through out. We had pho, steam clams, two rolls, and a mango sticky rice. Pho was standard, clams were fishy, the rice in the rolls are more sticky rice like than sushi rice. The actually sticky rice dessert tasted too salty than it should. I have picked up from Charm Thai 3 times now. Once for lunch and twice for dinner. Pros: - Food always has great flavor - Pho broth is on point (please note it is Thai style pho, so the broth is slightly different than Vietnamese pho broth but still tasty) - Ingredients are always fresh Cons: - Lunch portion is small. I ordered the red curry for lunch, and it was a pretty small portion. I was still hungry after. - For dinner portions, they give a lot of noodles/rice, but not as much of the protein. I ordered the Beef/meatball Pho, and there were only about 3 small slices of beef in it and a couple of meatballs. Another time I ordered a spicy rice noodle stir fry with tofu and veggies, and there was a heaping pile of noodles but not as much tofu and veggies. I would still order from there for dinner though because the food has always tasted good, and it's a convenient location. Won't order from there for lunch again. read more

This place is the best. The absolute best food I've had in a long time. 2016 Tokyo Shapiro is nothing like the Tokyo Shapiro of the past. Before: kinda creepy, not always open, nobody ever inside... After: brand new interior (including a flatscreen tv, which was being watched by a homeless man standing outside in the cold; he's a Buckeyes fan), brand new menu, brand new facelift Everything myself and my friends ordered was fresh, hot, pretty to look at and satisfying to our tastebuds. The sushi, the curries, the fried rice were all great. I ordered the mussels (spelled 'muscles' on the menu) and the coconut broth was teeming with flavor: lemongrass, lime, cilantro, onion, with fat, juicy mussels accented with tomatoes, cilantro and grated Parmesan (which was weird but looked pretty, so okay). A separate dish for my discarded shells was not offered and that bugged me, but they get a pass because those mussels may be the catalyst for my next great date night. The pineapple fried rice was good and hot. I wished the pineapple chunks were smaller and the pieces of pork (you can choose chicken, pork, tofu and other protein options as well) looked like milky beige pieces of shriveled up fat, but did not taste that way. To be safe, I'm going to get chicken next time. Tokyo Shapiro is about to be my next go-to downtown restaurant for inexpensive, very good food. read more

A simple place in downtown Winston-Salem. I was in town for just about a day and wanted a semi-quick, good value lunch experience. I ordered the Spicy Thai with Tofu ($9.95) which included a house salad and vegetable spring roll. The house salad was iceberg lettuce topped with shredded carrots, cucumber, tomato wedge, and crispy wontons. The dressing was peanut-based and was an excellent combination of slightly sweet and tangy. My entree arrived quickly after I finished the salad. The spring roll was hot and crispy with a good amount of black pepper meshed among the vegetables. Overall, it was pretty average as far as spring rolls go, but the sweet and sour dipping sauce was spot on. The noodles were cooked perfectly with a great bite to them and likewise the vegetables were tender yet maintained their crunchiness. The dish was appropriately spicy, as ordered (medium), and overall had an impressive flavor. It was not the most complex tasting Pad Thai I have ever eaten, but was better than most. The tofu was average to above average from a place of this caliber. The dish could possibly benefit from additional acidity. The wait staff was prompt, attentive, and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch, although I cannot draw direct comparisons to similar cuisine in the locale due to lack of experience. Charm rarely looks crowded and as I sit in here right now I see people peeking in and then trying to decide if they want to come in. Listen, come on in. This is the best sushi in WS. I used to be loyal to another very close Thai place, but the food here is just better in every way. They do a TON of to-go and Door Dash, so while it isn't always crowded they are always busy in the back. They're friendly and fast, great service, excellent food. I can't recommend it enough.
