One of Winston-Salem's longest-running Thai establishments, Cha Da Thai made for a frustratingly uneven dining experience. To the restaurant's credit, it's very nicely appointed. The interior features decorative woodwork, plants, and even a fish tank. The ambiance here is cozy and inviting. Cha Da also boasts a sizeable menu. In addition to the soups, salads, curries, rice, and noodle dishes you'd expect, there are more lamb, duck, and fish offerings than you'd find at many Thai places. Everything else was a mixed bag. Servers are affable, but the kitchen is rather slow. The food ranged from off-putting to solidly satisfying, with nothing really impressing. An order of papaya salad was generously portioned but went too heavy on the fish sauce. A tofu green curry featured a flavorful, coconut-forward sauce that was both tasty and too thin, and the accompanying vegetables could have benefited from more eggplant and less cabbage. A chicken Pad Thai hit the desired level of spiciness and did not skimp on the tamarind. While it was sweeter than I've had elsewhere, it hit the spot overall. Cha Da Thai's setting would make it an attractive dine-in destination if only the food were more consistent. As-is, Winston-Salem has better Thai options.
Oh Cha Da, I miss your Boone location so I had to swing thru for lunch today after I cleaned up one of the rental properties. A solid lunch special with a small salad with peanut dressing and a crispy egg roll with sweet & sour sauce were the perfect palate peeler upper for the Pad Woon Sen. I didn't see it on the menu but my man hooked me up as soon as I asked if it could be prepared! Crispy tofu, lots of veggies and bean thread noodles and a side if really good steamed white rice. I love this place.
Delicious food in a clean and nicely decorated space. 97.0 sanitation grade. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The fried rice is so good and the Tom Kha soup was delicious!! Next time I'll try the boba teas, we saw just about every table with one. Wish the portions were a little bigger for the sesame chicken and my bowl of soup ( they do offer a "pot" I was afraid would be too big) but the food was great. You have to try the Cheese Rolls as an appetizer!! *No kids menu*
Best Thai in Winston and beyond!! Been going here since I was in middle school and will go for the rest of time. The best food and chill vibes! Also their lunch special is PERF!
Overall: A gem of a place with great food and great service. Ambiance: There is plenty of parking but be careful of potholes. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. Plenty of seating. It was quiet for Tuesday night dinner and that was what I wanted. There were other groups there with kids and friends. Service: I was sat down immediately. My food came out quickly. Food: I got their Thai iced tea. It wasn't on the menu but I asked if they made it. They said yes. I got the green curry and asked them to make it just one level below Thai Hot and it was perfect! I can't wait to come back again and bring friends.
As I've done before after a less than grand experience, I returned here to try again. This place has been around almost 20 years and has a solid 4.2 Yelp rating. I have found that for me it's usually a matter of selecting the right dish at a Thai restaurant. I find I don't care for most of the noodle and stir fry options - some of the sauces and spices don't work for me. The complimentary soup and spring roll came out and was just as before - under seasoned, bland - at least they were free! The Chicken Stay was interesting - the chicken skewers were tasty, though a bit stringy, the peanut sauce was very thick, smothering taste - sauces are to argument, not happening with this! I wanted the whole Red Snapper but they were out, so I chose the whole flounder instead. It came with Ginger Sauce which turned out to be a rather strange dish. The fish came out rather slowly , and it turned out that it wasn't a good dish - it was overcooked and dry. I often have the Mexican version of this, Mojarra Frita, which is almost always a whole Talipa, and I have never had one cooked like this. The Ginger sauce was more a stew than a sauce - a ginger infused broth with plenty of ground chicken, sliced onions, chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and sliced carrots. While it was an interesting dish, it did nothing for the dry fish. Twice is enough, I'll seek my Thai fix elsewhere - Chang Thai, Thai Sawatdee, Thai Harmony, or Chiang Mai Thai!
We have been searching for a good Thai restaurant in Winston, and we finally found it. A friend suggested we try Cha Da Thai. I thoroughly enjoyed Pad Thai with shrimp and my husband had Pad Kro Pow and loved it. They offer brown rice as an option. The entree comes with soup AND a spring roll. Good service despite being busy. Highly recommend Cha Da Thai!
Found this gem of a Thai Restaurant near me. It is so good with an extensive menu. And special pricing during lunch. I was very impressed with service. This is on my favorite list of restaurants that I will keep going back. Nice layout too.
I absolutely love Thai food, it's comforting, yet layered and complex. I don't think I could pick a favorite dish so it's always tough to choose an entree. On this visit we went with the Panang Salmon and the Pad Nam-Prik-Paow. One of my favorite things about Cha Da Thai is the fun plates and serving dishes they use and we weren't disappointed on this trip. Both dishes came out promptly and were chocked full of vegetables with a nice bite to them (no overcooked or soggy veggies here). The Panang was so lovely I wanted to just drink the sauce but I refrained. Overall nice flavors and both were dishes we would happily eat again. Cha Da Thai is one of those spots in Winston that I can count on for solid service, a nice meal and a touch of colorful ambiance. It's just casual and comfortable.
Service was great the 2 young ladies that was serving us were very helpful and very knowledgeable about the food we started over for appetizers we got the cha da Thai sampler and the fried dumplings no pictures because we just dove right into them. Very delicious. I ordered the number 54.Panang Curry with the chicken and I did not like the vegetables or the chicken in it i removed them and my friend ate them but as for the coconut curry broth itself was a 10 out of 10 for me that I even bought a quart to take home with me my brother got a sweet-and-sour chicken very flavorful, delicious with little chunk of pineapples in it 9 out 10 My cousin got the sesame chicken what number for spice level very delicious also 9 out 10
I'm a sucker for some good Pad See Ew and Cha Da Thai almost never misses. Offering a variety of delicious and authentic Thai dishes, this place is a must try for Thai food fanatics everywhere. My first time was superb. I came during lunch and prices were so cheap. I was happy to see I also got some soup and an eggroll to nom on while I wait for my entree. Soup was very similar to congee but it was pretty good! Thai Tea was also delicious. Highly recommend getting it for my Thai Tea fanatics. Service was great and food came out so quick. My Pad See Ew had a lot of flavor and spice. Overall, one of the best Pad See Ews I've ever tasted around the Triad.
Environment: Nice, clean, and inviting. The fish tanks are a nice touch, as is the pothos plant wall. I also enjoyed the wooden accent walls. Staff: The two guys that helped us are the highlight. Very knowledgeable, courteous, helpful, and friendly. 10/10 Water: I rarely find a nice filtered water in restaurants these days, and this water was perfect. A nice touch. As for the food, we ordered: Chicken Panang curry - delicious and would definitely recommend. A nice and more enjoyable take on red curry. Thai sampler: Enjoyable, but the rolls and the triangle bites were only "good" compared to the cheese rolls. I would get solely the cheese rolls next time. Thai style papaya salad: This was good, nothing special, but nothing bad. A bit overly fishy for Thai style, so I would get the American style next time. Chicken Pad Prik Paow: This was good, but nothing overly special. I would get the sweet and sour or sesame chicken instead (or just a curry instead) next time.
I used to work in the shopping center that Cha Da Thai is located in, but never stopped by. I was over that way today and decided to give it a try. As you walk through the door, the decor and lighting are warm and inviting. Plenty of seating for anyone waiting for a to-go order. I was a little confused when I was finally greeted. No one walked up directly to me. They sort of stood back and asked, " Can I help you ma'am?"! I finally figured out they were talking to me and said that I'd like to sit and eat. The dining area had a few booths and tables. I was given a choice of which. After sitting, 2 menus were placed on the table. One was specifically for lunch specials, and the other was a general menu. I was asked what I wanted to drink and if I'd like soup or salad. I said neither. I ordered the Chicken Pad Kee Mao without eggs and a Thai tea. While I waited for my entrée, I was provided two spring rolls since I didn't want soup or salad. The Thai tea was served in a decorative glass. It was lovely to look at, but spilled over as I stirred. The flavor was perfect it wasn't too sweet and perfectly spiced. The food came out really fast. It was pretty, but I did not enjoy it. There was entirely too much sauce, and the noodles were overcooked. After trying the meal, I realized that I didn't provide a spice level when I ordered, and I wasn't asked, so there was ZERO heat. I decided not to complain about the meal. I paid right at $16 dollars for everything. If I go back, I'll try something with rice. I don't want to experience those mushy noodles again.
After enjoying our favorite dishes, I had to get one more thing this time... Mango Sticky Rice! This dessert is seasonal so if I miss it, I have to wait until next summer for it to come back. As soon as I saw it on the menu, I knew I had to order it, even though I was already full. It had been a couple of years since the last time I had it so I was very happy to enjoy it again. It was absolutely delicious! If you love the combination of mango, coconut and mochi-like sticky rice, definitely give it a try! read more
So, this little tucked away spot on Jonestown can be a hit or miss. When I first started going to this place. I fell in love with the decor, the real plants, fish tanks but most importantly, the food, I love the variety that they have on their menu so much to choose from. Tonight, I decided to stop for dinner. It's been several years and I wanted something different tonight. Sitting in the booth we had nothing but time to just look around. Like we have before and notice that the place definitely needed to be dusted and deep clean. It's been a minute but We are here for the food. We got some spring rolls, fried rice with eggs and beef and a dish that came with shrimp and scallops, vegetables and a side order of rice and for something sweet to go. I got the mango sticky rice. The spring rolls were so good totally forgot to take pictures. Same with the mango sticky rice. My husband loved his dish, which was the fried rice with eggs and beef. Mine was delicious as well. Only request would be that the mango sticky rice would have some more of the cream, but the food was great. Only two people working and taking care of the front including takeout and at the register. Please be patient. They are wonderful and do a great job. They have a four page menu that will hit anyone's taste buds. The menu does indicate their spicy items as well from extremely spicy to savory. They also have beer, sake and wine. read more

First of all, the interior decor is beautiful. The service is amazing and quick. And the food is absolutely delicious. When you walk inside you are greeted by busy servers and two life-sized welcoming figures. There's also fresh water and salt water fish tanks (not the gimmicky ones from Red Lobster; these actually have pretty fish). The walls and partitions are covered in Thai art. They are very busy, we went on a Monday night and it was full. But the severs do their job. BJ was great. He was so attentive and forthcoming with menu details. He kept our table clean and got the food out quickly. The smell is divine. And the food matches. Best Som Tom salad in Forsyth County! read more

Based on local reviews, I took my kids to Cha Da Thai for their first Thai food experience. Overall it was fantastic. Very extensive menu that can be a bit intimidating. We ordered the dumplings and spring rolls to start. The dumplings were fantastic and really peaked their interest and enthusiasm. We ordered the Pad Thai, Sweet and Sour Thai and the Pad Woonsen. All dishes were absolutely wonderful! We tried each other's selections and talked about how great everything was the entire meal. Not one cell phone came out! Service was prompt and very friendly. We'll definitely be back. read more
Someone recommended this place to me and that I had to try the Angel Wings. They did not disappoint me. It was crispy. It is (Marinated boneless chicken wings stuffed with mushrooms, onion, carrot, celery and glass noodles, fried golden crispy and served with cucumber in sweet chili sauce topped with ground peanut). I also got the Thai Sampler (A combination of 2 spring rolls, 2 cheese rolls, and 2 golden triangles served with sweet and sour sauce). I didn't think much of the spring rolls it was skinny so I didn't really taste like much. The cheese rolls had cream cheese it was a little better. The 2 triangles was filled with chopped cubes of potato's. Very yummy The last item I got was the Kaeng Kaio Wan - Green Curry (Slightly sweet and spicy coconut cream based curry with eggplant, green pea, bamboo shoots, bell peppers and basil leaves) I got mine with chicken. One of my favorite things I love to get at Thai Restaurants is Green Curry. I thought it had a lot flavor was really good perfect amount of spice. I did thing the curry could have bit more creamy. The service alright. The food didn't take long to get out but they never checked to refill my water, the person I was with her brought her own water so I drank the one they brought for her. After you finish with your meal and ready to paid just bring your bill to the front. The dining is casual, and relaxing read more
I don't know why this place isn't on the forefront of the Thai list in Winston. Under the radar for sure but it shouldn't be. Super nice and traditional decor inside . Granted in a strip mall but aren't a lot of good places? Nothing super fancy but nice and clean, great menu, good service and they listen when you say you want spicy ! Loved the vine pants everywhere inside that act as a wall. This isn't a place to expect a good wine list . They have basic grocery store bottles. Fair price though. They do have Thai beer and tea. We got sparkling wine split bottles . $6 wasn't a bad deal. The Thai sampler platter was a nice array of spring rolls, golden triangles which is potato and veggie filled. Also cheese rolls served with Thai sweet chili sauce. I like the golden triangles. Light and crunchy with mashed potatoes and peas. . Entrees! So my friend and I are into hot food. So we always ask for extra Thai hot and have routinely been disappointed at how not hot dishes are. When we asked here he said 5 being hottest we said yes ! The hotter the better being our words ! Then he said well our chef can do a hot that is a 10 ... well yes let's do it. Yes this 10 kicked our butts indeed. You could see the spice in it when it came out. The green curry was actually more red ! The drunken noodles also looked super spicy indeed. Both dishes made my nose run and drink a lot of water. But at least I got what I asked for. These were off the chart. Really good and tasty too. Packed with veggies and chicken. Loved every nose dripping bite. My boss who doesn't do spicy had the pad Thai with chicken as it comes mild! She said it was perfect and tried our spicy and said you guys enjoy that!! Hahah! She was a sport to try it at least. Our server left us a jug of water and said incase you need extra!! He also checked in with us a few times to make sure we were ok. I assume they don't get the Thai 10 request often. They take care of every palate here mild or super hot. Glad we tried it after knowing it's been here so long but never putting it on my list was my mistake ! read more

I struggled between 1-2 stars. The only reason I went with 2 is because they at least attempted an authentic pad Thai with a brown sauce. I will break this down in detail of why I'm giving a low review. It was a very disappointing experience. 1. Chicken or thai with brown sauce. Kudos for doing a brown sauce. This fell short with how dry it was and how little chicken was involved. I understand inflation, but the prices are not cheap, so I expect quality and balance. Good amount of crushed peanuts. There were also no bean sprouts. Edible, but is that really all you should strive for? 2. Fresh spring roll. The peanut sauce was lacking. One was too thick and gooey and the other watery: too much soy? I had a first and that was that my fresh spring roll obliterated about 2/3 in. OH and the best part was the shell that wedged between my teeth. Attention to detail goes a long way. 3. Finally the last point. The side of stir-fry vegetables with added chicken that I ordered for my 21 month old. Extremely over priced for portion, and the chicken was dry. My not picky eater wouldn't eat it. I should have gotten her a $9 hibachi with steak, veggies, and noodles. A side of grilled veggies at a local Mexican restaurant was an entire plate that was given for free that I would have gladly paid $9 for. My dad once told me the worst Thai restaurant would still be delicious. He would have been disappointed to eat here bc then he would not be able to say that anymore. There are so many other great Thai places nearby that you should not settle for a place that is substandard and overpriced. read more

Yes. Finally. Delicious Thai food in the Triad. Fresh rolls were indeed fresh and flavorful, peanut sauce was divine. Panang curry was perfect! Creamy, rich, just spicy enough, crisp and fresh vegges, crispy tofu too. Service was great, attentive, patient and accommodating. We arrived right at 5pm as they opened for dinner, 3-4 other customers there at the time but it got busier as we ate. Traditional decor, lots of menu options. We will return! You should definitely eat here. read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in all of Winston-Salem. I've tried all the Thai restaurants in Winston, including the ones downtown, but Cha Da Thai exceeds in flavor, quality, and authenticity. When you walk inside, you'll notice the Thai decorations throughout the restaurant and be greeted by a friendly employee, who will direct you to one of the many booths and table seatings they have inside. Service has never been an issue for me here. For the food, I rotate between their fried rice, pad thai, or curries. You won't go wrong with any of those choices here. You can customize your spice levels (mild to Thai hot) so the dish perfectly matches your spice tolerance. I appreciate how their spicy dishes are packed full of flavor rather than adding so much spice that it dilutes the other flavors of the dish. As for protein, they offer chicken, beef, tofu, and seafood, in addition to vegetarian choices. Whichever way you customize your dish, they'll make it right. I honestly have nothing to say but compliments about their food! read more

MUST TRY THAI RESTAURANT Cha Da Thai is the BEST Thai restaurant we have in Winston-Salem. I've searched for good Thai food over the past several years and tried several well-known Thai restaurants in the area - Charm Thai, Basil Leaf Thai, Thai Sawatdee, and Thai Harmony to name a few. Also, as an Asian-American, I feel like my opinions aren't completely baseless either. You WON'T find a Thai restaurant that has a deeper flavor profile or higher spice level than Cha Da Thai. Their Thai Hot spice level will have you desperately reaching for a glass of milk while dripping in sweat, or tears. Honestly, their spice levels do not mess around. If you're unable to tolerate spicy food, definitely stay away from adding any spice to their dishes. WHAT WE ORDERED: Pad See Ew (10/10) - This is one of the best Thai dishes you'll have here. Their sweet and sour, tart yet tangy sauce is guaranteed to make you clear your entire plate in minutes. Not sure why pad thai is so famous when its cousin is MUCH TASTIER! Pad Thai (8/10) - Your standard pad thai but immersed in a ton of flavors that bring forth the true Thai nature of the dish. Cha Da Thai Fried Rice (7/10) - Tons of flavor but the fish sauce was a bit too overwhelming for me. Otherwise, a fantastic fried rice dish! You won't find their kind of flavor anywhere else. Tom Kha - I wasn't able to try this soup, but according to my friend who LIVED IN THAILAND, he said it was the best Thai food he's had in Winston-Salem. Take it for what it's worth. Pad Prik Daeng (9/10) - It's stir-fried red curry paste with meat and veggies, you can't go wrong with this! I highly recommend trying their Pad See Ew! It's sweeter than Pad Thai and the noodles are thicker as well, so it just feels richer overall. You'll thank me later! My new favorite Thai place in town!! The interior is so nicely decorated and they have a private dining room you can reserve for large parties. Their glasses are shaped like bamboo and their plates/dishes are beautifully shaped with intricate designs. The service was very prompt and friendly. We came right when they opened and seats started filling up fast! They have an extensive menu that includes a variety of noodle, curry, soup, duck, and specialty dishes and drinks. Everything was reasonable priced, with some specialty items ranging up to $30 which is not bad at all. I got the chicken pad see ew medium spicy, my friends got the car fish and cha da thai special fried rice very very hot. Glad to say this place actually makes their dishes spicy when requested! Overall all of the dishes had great flavor, spice, quantity, and the quality of ingredients was great. I loved that the noodles on my dish were not mushy and there was plenty of juicy chicken and delicious broccoli. Perfect amount of umami, sweetness, and spiciness. My favorite dish on the table had to be the fried rice, it was bursting with flavor and could be enough for 2 meals. I definitely will come back to try more dishes!! read more

I visited Cha da thai during lunch and they offered a full menu as well as lunch specials. The meals automatically come with a spring roll and your choice of soup or salad. The restaurant was really calm and quiet during our visit. Service was great! The pho was delicious, The broth had a ton of flavor and the Vegetables were incredibly fresh. I asked for hot sauce and I was impressed with the variety that they offered. I ended up trying the Chili oil and I definitely got the heat I asked for. The green curry was equally delicious. It had a subtle sweetness and the broth was so good I could have drank it with a straw. As a veggie lover, I was thrilled with the amount of fresh vegetables served with the shrimp in this dish. We did order from the full dinner menu and our dishes were huge. Possibly enough for 2 people to share. read more

One of the closest if not the closest Thai restaurant to us. We are so blessed as this place is consistently fabulous in all areas. A reasonable price performer. Service is very accommodating and with attention to detail and pleasant accommodating depositions. Food comes out promptly and hot with the exception of the sake that needed to be warmed up to be hot from warm and they attended to that very pleasantly. The flavors in both of our different types of soups were so so so robust , tickles all the taste buds in the mouth and the throat. Both tangy in zesty an explosion of taste. The main dishes were colorful and presented so nicely and they too had wonderful seasonings at the appropriate levels not as much as the soups but still robust. The sauce on my entree was definitely on the hot side and the rice was really needed to balance it out which is wonderful for me. It made for a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner experience. There is plenty of selection on the menu to include things like duck. The place accommodates wheelchairs with a ramp and the atmosphere is just so warm inviting and decorative. I most definitely recommend this place to anyone in recommend it to ourselves to come back with some frequency. And the prices are fairly reasonable for the excellence you get. read more
Cha Da Thai is a solid 4 for me, and definitely a place I will return to. It's tucked away in a shopping center set back from Jonestown Rd. near where you'd get onto 421 North, and a little unassuming from the outside. Once you walk in though, you'll feel transported straight to east Asia with the decor. which for me is awesome. They have real plant vines growing on the walls helping to divide sections, wood paneling, vibrant silk looking tapestries, and plenty of other uniquely eastern items. As for the food, the main thing I would say about it is that it is plentiful, even for the lunch specials. For my first time, I went pretty basic with the Pad Thai. I also ordered some Som Tum, which is also known as green papaya salad. The pad thai lunch special came with a delicious spring roll, and a simple broth soup, both were welcome appetizers. After that my som tum came out, which is one of my favorite thai salads. I found the flavor a little underwhelming. Perhaps I should come back at a time of year when the papaya is more in season, but I felt the lime dressing was not all that zesty. That said, the portion was HUGE! I had plenty to take home, and added a bit more zest back at my place for later. Finally, my pad thai appeared, and straight off the bat I asked for their chili sauce knowing that I'd want it hotter. There is more tamarind in this version that I'm used to, it's a little sweet. But once I mixed in some of that delicious red chile sauce and let it set in, it was perfect. In the end, I'll definitely be back to try more things, especially their curry. I could easily see this becoming a 5-star rating in the near future. read more
