I had the Pork Bahn Mi and Rare Steak pho and both of them were delicious. The Bahn Mi was on the perfect roll that was not to crunchy and not soft, the pork belly was nice and tender and the house Mayo tied it all together. The Pho was flavorful and hit the spot on a rainy day. The service was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly. After trying numerous pho places around Winston-Salem and Greensboro, What Da Pho is definitely the best one! The restaurant is inside a large building, but there are signs that clearly direct you where to go and lead you to the right place. When inside, you'll see that there is plenty of seating, and they have a TV playing beautiful nature scenery which adds to the ambiance. The workers are very friendly and will check on you often. I always get their pho, and it never disappoints. The food comes out hot in a reasonable amount of time. Their broth is flavorful without being salty or watered down. As for the noodles, they have a nice chewy texture that go well with the handful of meat in the soup broth. They definitely do not skimp on the meat! I really miss the readily available pho when I was living on the west coast or in Chicago...I tried one place prior to here and then grabbed some take out for the hubby and me from what da pho on a rainy night. I went with the regular size for both of us which was more than enough. We did the rare steak and one with meatballs as well. I also ordered the spring rolls usually my favorite thing but put them in the fridge while waiting for my husband to get home and forgot about them so I will have to try again next time! The Vietnamese coffee was so good- if this place was more conveniently located I'd pop in just for that! The restaurant itself was clean and there were some people dining in; it's definitely causal which is nice and the man at the counter was nice. As others said it can be a bit tricky to find the entrance and while there is a parking structure you do have to pay to park there, I think it's like $2.00 an hour which sucks if you're spending money there or just grabbing take out. Maybe they can work out something where they validate. All said and done I'd like to return the food was good and I want my spring rolls!!! read more

Ohhhh the taste of home! No, I'm not from Ho Chi Minh City.... But growing up in Orange County California, there was a Pho restaurant on virtually every corner. Especially in the Garden Grove and Westminster communities. Having close friends that are Vietnamese gave me an intro to the cuisine nearly 40 years ago, and it was a Friday night ritual to go out for pho, Bahn mi, Che, ca phe and vermicelli. Since moving to NC some 25 years ago, it's been road trips to Greensboro and Charlotte, although many Vietnamese menus started popping up in Thai restaurants. Finally, we have a purely Vietnamese menu and they keep it simple. The aroma when you walk into the former Meta's Restaurant, smacks you in the nostrils with the beefy heartiness of the slow simmering stock that is the key to a great bowl of pho. I went with a large bowl of #7, their special, or Dac Biet, with brisket, rare beef, tendon and tripe, and it's served with all the standard accoutrements of bean sprouts, jalapeño, lime and Thai Basil. The broth was rich and flavorful on its own... and I almost didn't add anything to it. But the lime juice, sriracha and hoisin sauce just bring on an addicting flavor that is sweet, salty, spicy and sour. That's the beauty of pho... you can customize it to your liking. I judge mine by how many times I have to stop to blow my nose... and this one was an enthusiastic 3 nose blower! The Iced Vietnamese Coffee was perfect as well. Plenty of ice, sweetened condensed milk and super strong coffee. It's the perfect way to cool down the intensity of the jalapeños and sriracha if you've outdone yourself. Hopefully they will add a Three Bean Che with grass jelly for dessert. The Pork Banh Mi had an awesome, warm baguette that was crusty yet pillowy soft inside. The fillings of pickled carrot, daikon and fresh cilantro are light and crisp with a small yet flavorful portion of meat. A thick slice of jalapeño was served on the side. They are small but simple and nicely priced at $5.95. Service was prompt, friendly, and fast. If dining in the evening, the parking garage across from the courthouse is free. We parked on the bottom floor near the first stairwell, and upon reaching the top of the stairs, there is a sign directing you to the restaurant, which is just across the walkway from Courtside Cafe in the former Meta's Restaurant. read more

Sorry I didn't take a photo of it but the lovely smell and warm torpedo was too much to resist and I am fairly sure it was wholly consumed after just a few blocks. The pork was so tender and sauced perfectly with a little sweetness and pepper. The veggies were crispy and fresh. Only missed some heat from jalapeños but it's entirely possible they don't put jalapeños on their Banh Mi because of the inherent inconsistency of jalapeños and that many folks down here in the south can't even handle the spice of black pepper. I'm from California and have had my fair share of pho, but this pho is considerably better than the rest. The broth is delicious and soul-warming, the noodles are perfectly cooked and the beef is wonderfully tender. The service is fantastic. The staff is very attentive and friendly. We also got the vegetable egg rolls and they were crunchy, warm and delicious. Highly recommend getting the large size because after a few bites, you'll be wanting a huge portion! This little gem is tucked away near the parking garage and I highly recommend. Do not pay attention to the signs saying to not use this door, and anything like that. Trust me, you are going through the correct entrance. This was the second time I've had Pho, and the broth is so much more delicious than the first place, which didn't have the fragrant taste of star anise and the other herbs ans spices that comes in Pho. The menu is not that large which, I believe makes each dish more special. My husband has a shellfish allergy, and he did not have a problem, but the place in greensboro, he did not have a problem either. I got the large rare steak pho and Vietnamese iced coffee which is always delicious, and my husband got the chicken pho and Thai tea. My belly was stuffed. The order came with more noodles than I'm used to so I would recommend a smaller bowl with extra meat for myself when I go back. They also have the combination pho, and even though I've wanted to try tendon and tripe, I don't think I'm their yet. If you are still deciding, please stop by for a bowl. read more

Spring rolls with pork or without pork was made fresh and crackling outer crust. The steak Pho is amazing. Silky smooth broth. Added sriracha made it spicy heaven that cocooned me to tears.
