We arrived into town late and food options were limited. After reviewing Yelp we narrowed it down to two places. The first place was NOT what Yelp had described but this place made up for it. It was a rainy Saturday night and we walked in and told that we could sit where ever we wanted. We took a seat in the dining area versus the bar as it was less noisy. The waitress came over and started us with some waters and asked us what we wanted. We had lots of questions regarding local drinks but she wasn't able to help us so she got someone who could. The beers were on special ($2 draft beer) and we went with a cider. We also got a cup of seafood chowder (as they were out of clam chowder), coconut shrimp and a lobster roll. So the cider was wonderful - I could have had a few more - the seafood chowder had chunks of meat in it and was good, the lobster roll was a nice way to start the trip off however I'm not sure why they charge $1.99 for hot butter - I mean do butter and lobster not go together? The ladies gave us a few recommendations for things to see and try out and over all is was a good meal. If I was in the area I'd stop in again. read more

Seated quickly. We had a scallop roll which was very good. The lobster roll with butter was the special and it said double lobster roll. If it was a double lobster I wouldn't want to see the single. Lobster roll was awful and I didn't eat it. No butter on it, zero lobster flavor. Once we were served our meal the waitress never came back ( she stayed at the bar) or even near us. Then she could see the person with me had finished and came over and scooped up his plate so fast I didn't get a chance to say anything and apparently she didn't look at my full dish of food in front of me or ask if everything was ok! When she came to take my plate, again not asking how everything was. I tried to say very quietly (because I didn't want the other patrons to hear me) the lobster roll was awful and had no butter on it. She said well why didn't you tell me VERY LOUDLY and the other patrons looked over at us. I didn't even get a chance to say I didn't get a chance to speak with you until now. She took my plate and returned with the bill and said $10 was taken off for the lobster roll but next time tell me. I said only $10? She said yes you obviously ate some of it. Can't beat the deal on their lobster rolls - we were skeptical but it's totally legit! $9.99 for a "regular" size roll - unheard of!! We expected it to be tiny but it was the same size you get everywhere else but for almost half the price! And it was totally fresh and delicious!! It's a cold roll but didn't seem to have sauce or tons of Mayo - the lobster really shined through in terms of fresh flavor - and it had tons of huge chunks of claw meat - fantastic!! The buttery, toasty bun was perfect as well. It comes with a bag of potato chips but you can get fries for extra cost. And since it was freezing and windy out, I got a cup of their famous seafood chowder - you have to get this!! It was sooo darn good!! Huge chunks of lobster, crab too I think, shrimp - and a delectable, creamy soup base - very soft and flavorful! We also tried their soup of the day which was beef stew - and it was also tasty - but the seafood chowder is totally the way to go! The beef stew came with cornbread too - but it was super sweet with some unusual spices and tasted more like a spice cake lol! Was still good but definitely not a typical cornbread. Plenty of parking in their lot outside. They have outside seating with plastic up to shield from cold wind - but it was still too cold to sit outside imo. Inside is clean and definitely has a sports bar/dive bar atmosphere- was very comfortable. Staff were all nice but service is definitely a tad slow. Not a huge issue if you're not in a hurry. But the main reason for the 4 stars is this: if you want a hot water with lemon or any kind of hot tea - DON'T!! We asked for hot water with lemon, and the hot water they brought us was brown tinged and smelled/tasted of coffee!! So it's not dirty - it's just that they're making their hot water in the coffee pot or something and it's just full of coffee residue. Was quite off-putting. Stopped here for a reprieve from Hampton Beach traffic on a Sunday night. So glad we did! 10 out of 10! Service was A+, Food was A+, Atmosphere was A+ (although a bit dark for my old eyes but it was ok after I adjusted.) We sat at the bar and we were thrilled to find Maine Lunch on tap which we were served right away by Maria who was one of 2 bartenders. My husband originally ordered fish & chips and I expressed interest in the fried clam plate so Maria suggested splitting the Fisherman's Platter which was perfect! HUGE portion of great seafood (whole belly clams, shrimp, haddock, and scallops), perfectly battered fried onion rings and French fries, and a nice portion of really fresh and delicious cole slaw. The kitchen split the order onto 2 plates which was unexpected and much appreciated. Beers were cold, delicious, and reasonably priced. Maria, our server, is a gem. So warm, friendly, and helpful...she made us feel like regulars instead of a couple of "Massholes". After checking out the menu to this place & realizing I know someone who works here I wanted to check it out. I really like lobster rolls & one's with a great price ($6.00 for the small one) and I like Lobster Mac & Cheese. So my Mom & I ventured down here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. My mom got the shrimp chowder & was expecting bigger pieces of shrimp in it, I would have thought they would have used the mini shrimp but it looked like they just chopped up shrimp into tiny pieces & threw them in there. My Mom said it was good but it could have used some more shrimp in it. This came out before our meals. We both got & enjoyed our lobster rolls. She got her's with fries & I did mine with chips. I had one of her french fries & they tasted better then they look. I got a little confused cause mine came out with a side of mayo & her's didn't. I was afraid they didn't put mayo in my meat but I called Rebecca over to inquire on this & she told me some people like extra mayo so they send a container out. Seems like a waste cause if they're not used you can't bring it back to the kitchen to give it to the next customer due to sanitary & safety reasons. They don't mess around here. It was spiral macaroni & I found the cheese to be more soupy then thick & creamy like melted cheese. It was still good & I had left overs to take home which I just finished up today. Still tasted good microwaved and eaten a day later. I used the single bathroom which was clean & smelled nice. I also noticed a little basket on the table with some tampons, hard candy, hair spray & dental floss picks and thought that was nice that they offered those things to their customers. The bar area is separate from the dinning room & they have their own bathrooms so theres not a lot of traffic coming in & out of the dinning room from the bar. We tried to sit far away from the front door as the day we went was cold & windy and we knew we'd get hit with the cold air every time someone opened/closed the door. It still was a little chilly in the dinning room area, my Mom never removed her jacket while we were there. I highly recommend checking this place out especially if you like lobster rolls! The guy next to use got the medium sized roll & that was loaded with meat, believe 4oz's. The medium roll is still a good price for the portion size. Rebecca did an awesome job waiting on us! I eat out a lot we started by ordering a soda and beer and water. She brought the beer and soda and took 2 times to get the water. Like I said the lobster roll was very good. My wife did not get a refill on her soda even though we did ask for it. I ordered the fisherman's platter. Being right on the ocean you old think this would be good. The only thing good on the platter was the shrimp. On the menu it said I could get the scallops baked or fried but was told I could have only fried. There was no sweetness bout the scallops. The fried fish was laid across the fries fresh out of the grease so the fries were unable to be eaten because they were saturated in grease. The worst thing were the clams, they were overcooked on the outside and very undercooked on the inside. The food was good place was clean. They need new menus, ours were wrinkled paper. . The issue we had was the server, Pam. She grabbed the lemon out of my son's soda, reached her hand in the drink to get it. He never asked for a lemon but he also didn't say he had an issue. She then removed my food from in front of me without asking if I was done. I still had 2 scallops and a plate full of fries. When I said I wasn't done, she said she'd bring me more fries . Before I could say anything more she walked away. She came back with the fries and I told her I didn't want them thank you but I wanted them to take my meal off my bill as I wasn't done with it. She stared yelling that I only had fries on my plate and how "everyone saw it. I said again , I wasn't paying for something i didn't get to finish . She told me to pay the bill and call the following morning complain . I again said i wasn't paying for my meal but am will to pay the rest. She walked by me and said "you fuckin' people." I told her she didn't have to swear at me and she denied saying it. My son heard her as well. She ignored me and I asked for a manager. She said there was no management on that night. I started to walk to my car. They weren't addressing my issue , they wouldn't give me a bill. So walking out seemed like the only option. She came out and I said go ahead write down my plate . She threatened to call police. We told her to go ahead. Somewhere in all this my check was adjusted. I told her that it would have been great if she just did that earlier, all would be avoided. She made no effort to be kind , Apologize, Nothing.. I've been spoken to in such a nasty manner. When no one is in charge or managing their business, I guess the employees feel they can behave whatever way they would like. I was a return customer by the way. I had: Seafood Chowder - no seasoning at all; I do not like salt but even I am say at the very least a little salt could have been added Baked Haddock with Rice Pilaf and Carrots instead of the fries and coleslaw - this was delicious, had the right amount of seasoning on everything, except for the rice pilaf. On the road back to "civilization" when we decided to have lunch. But where? Yelp suggested 12 Ocean Grill. Ok, on to the review. I normally end with parking, but here I'll start. First spot you see, take it, you won't get a second chance, when they are busy. Arrived about 1 pm on a Thursday, they were about 50% full. Quickly seated inside and had our drink orders taken. LOTS of tv's here to keep track of sports stuff. My sister decided to live on the edge and order the Lobstah Nachos (pic attached). Hmm...ok, she also ordered the large Lobstah Rolls. I say Rolls, because they do two hot dog bun type rolls. I ordered the Lobstah Mac and Cheese (pic attached). Drinks were water and an Arnold Palmer. The Lobstah Nachos? AWESOME! LARGE chunks of Lobstah!! Nacho chips and cheese were everywhere. I went light on these, even though I didn't want to...so I would have some room for the Lobstah Mac and Cheese...Good plan! Her Lobstah Rolls were HUGE! Lobstah coming out all ova! She really enjoyed one...and had the other for dinner that night. My Lobstah Mac and Cheese? WOW! It was HUGE too!! Tasty chunks of lobstah all over it. After I stopped (because I was full), it barely looked like I had any of it...but I did. Service? Wicked AWESOME! The staff here is doing a GREAT job with the COVID-19 procedures/protocols! All employees wearing masks and sanitizing after each customer. First time. Sorry, not impressed. We waited about 15 minutes for some to come to our table. The waitress never gave us her name. To start I ordered their "famous" seafood chowder. When I order seafood chowder, I am looking for clams, scallops, shrimp & lobster. It was all some unidentifiable fish. My husband ordered their Manhattan Fish Chowder only because he wanted to try it. It was actually not too bad. (I had a taste!). For my meal I had the steamers. They were huge! I prefer smaller, but ok. However, there were 4 that were still closed! My husband had a clam scallop plate. He loved the cole slaw, but he wasn't thrilled with the clams, scallops or fries. He thought they were too greasy. We waited another 15 minutes and had to flag down the waitress to get our check. We don't think we will be going back. Great place! We went for lunch. Sat in lounge which was busy. Colleen, the bartender was also our server. She handled the place with ease making each guest feel at home. The seafood chowder is the best I have every had. Buttery broth and filled with seafood. Husband got Fisherman's platter. It was fabulous!! Well worth the drive out to the beach. My first impression of this Resturant from the outside was it looked very cute and inviting and indeed it was. Today I had my very 1st lobster roll. It was pretty good. This was my first visit to the New England states. I've been told this Resturant is pretty good for the off season, this being the time of year I visited. I did add more mayo to my lobster roll because it was a little dry. But over all I enjoyed it. Our waitress was not only helpful but she was funny too. It made for a very good first visit. The Resturant is a short distance to the east cost beach, so I was able to check off two boxes off my bucket list in quick order.
