This place is unassuming on the outside and dated on the inside but in a charming old school way. It's pretty welcoming and my server was very nice. Very helpful with the menu and loved that there was a whole page of specials to let you know that they care about switching things up and encouraging you to come back. I got a Shirley Temple, a turkey club with waffle fries and finished off with a dessert from the specials menu: strawberry shortcake The turkey club was great! Perfectly toasted and presented and fresh. Loved the addition of the pickle. The best part was the strawberry shortcake though. I LOVE strawberry shortcake on a biscuit! Its my favorite thing to see and was pleasantly surprised when it came to the table. It was such a a fluffy, nice biscuit, great ratio of ice cream, biscuit and strawberries but the star was the whipped cream, it was so light and fresh. I just wish the strawberries were fresh. They tasted like the syrupy strawberries you buy at the store for pie filling. If they were fresh strawberries it would've been a 10/10. Overall great experience! This is another institution of the area. People always want to know where the locals go. Well this is one of those places. Back in the day you needed reservations and it was the finest prime rib around and a classy restaurant. Well a few decades later the dog track, which use to be a social event closed. Big box stores and chain restaurants took over and this place stayed the same. To me that is not a bad thing. The food has always been solid if not delicious. They have a great breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. The service might appear to be a little rough on the edges but aren't you looking to eat and drink with the locals?! read more

We stopped for dinner last night and had a negative Experience. We were first sat at a table with a sticky wobbly top. The restaurant was empty. We complained at she said we know it's been that way for ever. We asked to move and she got irritated. My friend ordered baked haddock and the server asked if she wanted bread crumbs and she said yes. When looking at the bill there was an up charge of $2.00! The server didn't make us aware of it. My steak tips were over cooked ordered medium rare cooked well. Squash was cold. Service was slow with no customer service she stood where we could see her and talked. I had dinner and drinks with a friend this evening and we sat at the bar. The barmaid was very busy, working the shift by herself. I ordered a 12-year scotch and it took forever for the waitress to determine she did not have the brand I ordered, and then she continued to look for a comparable. She claims she's worked there for million years and she doesn't know where the high-shelf scotch is. Anyway, we had one drink and ordered food. I ordered the Reuben with tater tots, and my guest ordered the fish and chip which is known to be rather a safe bet at this establishment. My guest's drink when down rather smoothly and he was looking for a refill. He inadvertently giggled the ice in the glass as he asked for a second drink. The waitress\barmaid was busy and threw a nasty glance. She even said I am aware you are waiting. I too had a second drink at the time she made the second round. Just before the food came I asked for a beer on tap. She made the comment "Oh so you're switching to beer now". I'm not sure if it is any of her concern that I am getting a beer instead of hard liquor, but she felt the need to mention it. She served my guest another cocktail, the 3rd, and she made the comment that it would be his last. He was a bit taken aback by her attitude. This is a place that regulars walk to from the apartments next door and drink to their heart's desires. All of a sudden she has some chip on her shoulder. The food came and at first glance, it looked fine. I ate my Rueben sandwich, but it was not a classic Rueben. After completing the meals, the bartender came to clear the plates. I told her that a Classic NY Rueben is a grilled sandwich and not just toasted bread. The grilling of the sandwich is what makes it a quality experience. She proceeded to ask the cooks why it wasn't grilled. She returned from the kitchen and said, "I told them that's all I can do" I have nothing to do with the food. She never offered to refund the cost or make any amends. When I was paying the bill, I asked her how long she has worked there. She replied "A million years". I asked her if it was her customary practice to inspect the food before she delivered it to her customers. She felt threatened and responded that we were not easy customers. I ask how? She said the rattling of the ice and our impatient nature caused her issues. I would think a bartender who has been employed for that many years would have thicker skin than she showed. Anyway, This is about the 10th time I've been to this restaurant. The Ruebens I've gotten in the past were always made properly. I have never seen this bartender before. Stopped here with my significant other after looking for a place to eat a late lunch in the area. I prefer to patronize local places rather than chains when I'm on the road, so we opted for Master McGrath's over some of the chain restaurants that are close by. I went in hoping for some local charm and some basic, but decent, Irish-American pub style food. Live an learn I suppose, but I was not expecting every single food item to be not just disappointing but downright inedible. Initially we were encouraged by the presence of a salad bar, and so I opted for that as my vegetable with my crab cakes. I also ordered a small cup of their soup of the day (Sirloin vegetable) as I do like a good cup of soup. The salad bar was laughable - some iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, cucumbers and rough-sliced mushrooms being the only real salad components available. Other than that, there was cottage cheese and one other kind of cheese along with some older-looking prepared pasta salad which I decided not to try. So, not off to the most promising start. My soup was served promptly, but was so salty I couldn't eat more than a bite or two. It tasted like it had been heated up early in the day and left on warm enough that it became concentrated by evaporation. Whatever it was, it wasn't good. My crab cakes looked like they had been in a deep freeze for months and then thrown into a greased pan to cook; they were mushy, flavorless and looked so bad I questioned if I might get sick after taking a bite. I would have been embarrassed to serve the kind of food I got here. The staff was polite enough, but they can't make up for the obvious lack of care & attention to what they had to serve. My advice- if you're in the area and starving, go up the street a bit to one of the nearby chains and save yourself from food you wouldn't even serve to your in-laws. read more

I'm not actually sure what it was but it was a bad unclean smell. Maybe it was due to the bathrooms being right up front. Either way, the smell was still there when I was seated. The tables, decor and walls are WAY to dark. Customers can barely see. The light fixtures are missing bulbs and there broken. The floors look dirty. ~ The food. I got a burger and to be honest it wasn't anything special. I could have went to a fast food place to get a better burger that has more flavor. It was full of grease. Went there last night. I can't comment on the food because we couldn't pull the trigger on eating after experiencing the facility. This tired old place has the strong vibe of a place in slow steady decline. You see it initially in the worn outdoor carpet at the front door. Then you enter and see the old beat-up bar and furniture, and then experience the overwhelming smell of cleaning chemicals, masking the smell of decay and decline. We each had a drink choosing from the limited draft beer choices, and the single low-end brand of wine. Spirit selection looked very limited as well. It appears as though investment and innovation ended many years ago. I think there is probably some decent food available if you know what to order, but if you are looking for a nice dining experience you should pass by. Do you remember visiting your grandmother? That's sort of what this place reminds me of. The food isn't innovative or exciting, but just what you'd expect. The waitresses seem to have been here for ages, and take zero bullshit. I asked what kind of hot chocolate they had, and she gave me a dirty look, and came back to tell me it was power Swiss Miss. The food is pretty good, but don't expect gourmet by any means. I ordered the stuffed apple french toast, and it's debatable if the apples were from a can of apple pie filling or made in house. My uncle got the blueberry pancakes, and they were huge. My boyfriend and mother both had their daily special quiche, and it was a hearty slice. My dad had the classic eggs over easy with sausage and hash-browns, and enjoyed them. If we had ordered the lobster and ribeye Benedict though, we might have been disappointed. Prices were very reasonable, with a Bloody Mary costing you $3.49 before 2pm. The lighting is really dim, and there's lots of wood paneling. The booth we had had dark red faux leather, and it was a bit sticky. I probably wouldn't come back here, but I imagine your grandparents would love it. Hadn't been here in several years. First time for dinner, which was not great as I recall. This time, driving by, we saw a banner that they had breakfast on the weekend. Thought we would give it another try. The place hasn't changed in appearance. Still extremely dark décor, old pub-style. The booths with the hooked back curtains still there and dingy/dinky yellow light fixture over the table. Didn't really expect it to have changed. I wasn't impressed to see the salad bar items in place. Hope they weren't there all night! It was quiet, half the place was empty at 8:30am. So no problems with getting service. Our waitress was very pleasant. I chose one of the specials, Lobster Florentine Omelette with home fries. Not bad, but definitely nowhere near the amount of lobster you get in an omelette at Bessie's in Brentwood, NH for less money. Not really any big pieces of claw meat, pretty much small bits and pieces. But overall the taste was nice. Had the hollandaise on the side just in case it's not the real thing and most places put far too much on. It wasn't too bad actually, used it for dipping. Husband had the Meat Lovers' Omelette with pancakes on the side. He seemed quite satisfied. Won't be going out of our way to make a return visit. Wow -- it's been 3+ years since I've written about McGrath's. My previous comments still stand. However...I have something new to report that probably few people think about. What if you order a $17, 1-lb Angus Sirloin Steak special perfectly broiled and you can't eat it all? Doggie bag, right? Wrong. Senior Server Elaine knows how to package your leftovers so they make it home intact for another tasty meal on another day. Way too good for the dog. I never trusted anyone to box my leftovers, insisting on doing it myself after experiencing the average server callously scrape them all together and dump them in a box in an unappetizing pile. Just once she offered to "package that up nicely for you" and I warily said ok. When I got it home, I couldn't believe what she had taken the time to do with it. Now I take home food all the time and her attention to detail in wrapping the items so they stay separate and appealing is very much appreciated. The aforementioned steak posed for one of my pictures, as did a previous ribeye steak breakfast...toasted bagel still crispy. Elaine has been here for decades and has many repeat diners who will wait for one of her tables -- now I know why. What an unpleasant experience. I wish I could say something positive about this place. The smell of toilet mints as you walk in the door should've been my first clue. Ordered the steak tips and crab-cake special. Really unusual sweet taste marinade was used on the steak (awful) and the crab cake was a greasy flat mass that was sans flavor. Even the mashed potatoes were void of flavor and lumpy. Ah, our waitress....I'm pretty sure she would implode if she smiled....my advice-AVOID AT ALL COST! This place has been around for a long time and it's just as good as it was the last time I was there years ago. I had dinner there this evening with my family and it was delicious. They have a good menu with just about everything from steak to chicken to seafood. One of the things I like about this place is that they have a salad bar here which is usually a hard thing to find in restaurants. The lighting is dim and the atmosphere is pleasant. It's a nice change of pace from the chain restaurants that we see so often. The waitress was very nice as was the hostess who seated us. read more

GREAT FOOD HORRIBLE WAITRESS. We've been here quite a few times and this is our first bad experience. We go because they are about the only place that really does a Steak Pittsburgh. We also enjoy the salad bar. It's not huge like the Hungry Traveler and not a meal like Warren's but perfect for a salad. This is however the 2nd time they didn't replenish the oven crusted bread. Last time we asked and they did but we got what we needed so said nothing but noticed the entire time until we left they never put another loaf. Guys either replenish the loaves or put out lousy bread nobody will miss. Now for the reason I posted... THE WAITRESS SUCKED.. you decide. She takes our drink order, a Captain rocks and a cup of coffee plus 2 waters. She comes with the waters says the drinks will be right over and takes the food order. We wait and wait but no drinks. We see her sitting eating her lunch so at that point my wife goes to the bar and picks up her own drink. Our food comes she doesn't say a word and didn't notice my wife sipping her drink. When we finish we are waiting and finally had to call her over for take out boxes and the check. She never even asked about more water, so I went to the server station and poured my own refill. Next time we eat in the bar or refuse this waitress. Well I gave $2 on a $55 check. Our last visit we had great service from a different waitress and I left $15 on a $40 tab. read more

My husband and I were in the Seabrook, NH area & remembered the Prime Rib dinner offered at MM's on Saturday evenings. This was our 2nd visit to MM's. We were acknowledged immediately upon entering & sat at a table promptly. Our hostess asked us if we wanted a beverage as we were seated so off to a good start. Diet soda for me; Shock Top Belgian White ale draft. My husband ordered the Queen cut Prime Rib Roast, baked potato, broccoli au gratin & the salad bar is included- all for $16.99!!!! Best deal in town!!! Hefty portion of prime rib was served, Medium as requested. Au Jus was very flavorful. The salad bar is just the right size without becoming overwhelming w/ something for all tastes. Freshly baked bread is also available at the salad bar; I didn't try the bread, however, it looked delicious & other diner's seemed to be enjoying it. I opted for the All you Can Eat salad bar for $6.99, which I feel is very reasonable. I couldn't resist their AMAZING clam chowder and ordered a cup; I knew I wouldn't be able to finish a bowl of hearty chowder. MM's chowder is a true NE CHOWDA! Chock full of clams & potatoes and so rich and creamy. One of the best I've had. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I didn't get a good view of the pub side of MM's but I did see Keno & Karaoke advertised as well as entertainment on certain nights. I'd love to check the pub out in the future.
