Chicken tenders

$1 chicken wings and tenders? In this economy?? I'll take it! I'm giving 2 stars for the great deals this place has but that's about it. The vibes, atmosphere and clientele are less than stellar...

This place is wildly inconsistent from one week to the next. It's out of the way, has no parking, only one server working the whole place during the day, and dark restrooms as if we still used oil lanterns...BUT if you come during the evening on a summer night and order the twin lobster deal ($20), you will find 2 lobsters fat to the brim, steamed to perfection so that the slightest tug will pull a claw free and your lobster tail isn't shrunken to a toothpick. You couldn't order the same thing and get that level of perfect on any of those beachfront flashy joints just a few blocks down the strip. Believe me, I've tried. The small pepperoni pizza is perfectly crisp, great amount seasoning for the red sauce, and quality cheese pull. Now if you wait too long though and get there after the karaoke in winter time and they shut down their lobster deal for the summer, it ain't worth the trek! The burgers are stout and undercooked in the middle, and hearing all the drunk singers gets old after a while.

Outside patio.

Two lobsters for 24.99, really nicely poured drinks and a friendly server. Eat on the deck, have a drink and dig into the crustacean!

I can only imagine how packed this place gets during the summer. Anyways, service was great. Both bartenders were friendly and one offered a marker + tape so we could hang our dollar bill on the ceiling. As for the food... IMO it wasn't up to par with the Manchester location but still good. The nacho appetizer was disappointing as the pulled pork on top was lukewarm and there was hardly cheese/toppings under the top layer. My BLT and fiancés burger were both good. Fries perfectly crispy. This is probably one of the better (if not the best) place to have a meal at Hampton Beach.

For dessert, my better half and I shared their bananas foster bread pudding, which was out of this world scrumptious. I wanted to lick the bowl! North of NOLA will be at this spot until Labor Day. I lived 7 1/2 years in Louisiana and even worked for 2 1/2 years at the legendary Ralph & Kacoo's, so I have been searching for years for Cajun food as good as I enjoyed back then. I have eaten at every so called Cajun Restaurant in NH, ME, MA, and RI. North of NOLA and Big Mamou in Springfield MA are the only two that could be served in Louisiana . I started if with an Abita Purple Haze (beer). I was worried it might be a little stale, but it was fresh and tasty. My wife had a hard Southern Peach Tea. It was delicious as well. On to the food: We started with a bowl of seafood gumbo. It was very thick, not watery, and had lots of shrimp, crab, crawfish, and okra. 10 of 10 and the hit of the night. I will return just for the gumbo. My wife got the Zydeco Pasta for her meal. Not too spicy and full of flavor. Maybe a tad to much andouille, but 7 of 10. I got the Crawfish Etouffe. A little mild for my taste but delicious. 8 of 10. We also got a Blackened Fish Bites appetizer with our meals. I wish it was catfish, but they used Haddock. It was perfectly spiced and delicious. 8 of 10. Would be 10 of 10 if they used wild caught catfish. For dessert we got Beignets and coffee. The beignets were dreamy. 9 of 10. All in all it was an amazing experience and we will make the drive again soon.

Then we popped over to the restaurant and grabbed a table for some food. We only ordered chicken tenders, which came out quickly and were sweet and crispy. Our server was nice, they were a little disorganized and I think we would sit in the " bar service" area next time and just buy stuff ourself and bring it outside. Overall, good time, nice place and they had beers that were not IPAs so those are all good in my book.

While Smuttynose doesn't have a cat (that I'm aware of), we were pleasantly surprised to meet the resident good boy, a black lab named Willy! What a treat. He is so friendly and freely roams the bar and beer garden. Cute pup aside, I love their facility. The outdoor area hosts a variety of seating options, including my personal favorite: adirondack chairs. This place would be an ultimate summer hang if I lived closer! You don't even have to go inside to order a beer - just walk up to the order window. I tasted their fall offers: Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. I thoroughly enjoyed both, even purchasing a variety pack to trek home with me that included both the Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. Their flagshop brown ale is called Old Brown Dog, and when we visited, they had a stronger version on tap - Very Old Brown Dog. The Very Old Brown Dog is one of the better strong beers I've tasted in some time. Definitely a sipper, especially if you're driving - but boy, it was smooth and very tasty in spite of it's sub 10% abv. The tasting bar is no frills at it's core, but clean bathrooms, fun merch, and good beer are flowing. There are some snacky foods available for purchase, but their restauarant is just across the parking lot if you're seeking a substantial meal. Lots of parking, great outdoor gathering space, smaller indoor seating area - would be great for summer hangs. Lots of tasty beer and a good doggy await. Smuttynose is one of my favorite breweries I've visited in recent memory.
