We went to The Hungry Traveler because my Dad LOVES Lobster! They are currently running a 3 for $30 special- and it was so worth it! The service was fast, and friendly. The lobsters were fresh and delicious. My dad was exceptionally happy- and as a bonus got to be on their social media post- "happy as a clam" with all his lobsters in front of him! Everything was phenomenally delicious lobsters were portioned perfectly and the salad bar was clean, tidy filled constantly every so often we went up all the staff were nice to us. I came in for the Prime Rib at 5 on a Saturday. Got a booth right away--no waiting. I hadn't been here since the change in ownership, several years ago. Two sizes: 16 oz and 24 oz. I got the biggie, ordered medium rare, for $46. Yeowee! What a gorgeous slab of meat! And butter-tender! I would have enjoyed a little more seasoning, though. But not complaining -- I took most of it home! I am happy when restaurants are so proud of their food that they refuse to skimp on quality or serving size. The place has been moderately updated inside, but has the same standards for cleanliness and comfort. The staff is new to me, but all extremely pleasant and attentive. First time eating here in many years. It was not my choice to go here today for lunch but I agreed to go with my boyfriend. The place was completely renovated, clean, and inviting. One of the servers, Michelle, greeted us and sat us. She had such a positive and uplifting attitude. I listened to her talk to her other guest with such pride of her job. Letting them know how great the new owners are and what they are still looking to do for future improvements. Then we were greeted with our server Amanda. Equally amazing. Knew the menu, on top of refilling our drinks, and she just knew what she was doing. You could tell that she Also loved her job. Being in the same business for 25 plus years and being an owner of a restaurant now, I would love to have these 2 servers work for me. When I go out to eat, service could be ok. Just went to the Hungry Traveler for the second time this summer and it was so good. The prime rib was amazing and the last time I was there I got the haddock au gratin which was also delicious. They did a renovation and added a bar upstairs too. The chef came out and we had a great talk with him. Wow. Disappointed....Ordered take out this morning for my family, spent $60 before tip! They had to first remake the entire order bc they gave us the wrong food, then when they gave us "our food" it was still wrong. I ordered scrambled eggs with an English muffin, and I got a ham and cheese omelette with wheat toast that was half undercooked still runny as can be. My son's western omelet had grilled and raw veggies? It was okay. We got there kind of late. I was under the mistaken impression that they offered sandwiches all day, instead of only for lunch, and picked out that place with those prices in mind. I do not take pleasure in writing this poor review, but maybe it will save others from having a bad experience during their vacation. A group of 6 (2 small children) of us choose Hungry Traveler to eat at as the one and only night we went out to dinner (we are camping). Our experience started off poor from the beginning with drinks - it took far too long to receive them. The children's drinks came in a regular cup. We asked if they had children's cups and they did. The waitress never brought them until we asked again. We asked if the children's dinners could come out first, if possible. One of the adult's dinners came out and nothing else. The prime rib ordered as medium came out rare. The cajun haddock was seasoned with an excessive amount of salt. The food was expensive diner food. Our waitress didn't provide silverware nor napkins. Didn't ask to refill our drinks. It's unfortunate, but improvements are desperately required. read more

His fried scallops plate was loaded with scallops (he made the comment himself that other restaurants usually give an abundance of French fries and onion rings and fewer scallops). He was happy!! My husband and I went to eat on a Sunday, no wait, we had a party of two and were seated right away. We were seated, and our waitress Kailey who relayed to us that it was her first day was very polite and attentive. Being a bartender in the industry for 18+ years I understood, and of course we were very kind and patient with her. She did let me know this, that the martini was going to be awhile, but 17 minutes is really awhile. She brought the martini over, it was literally half full (in a standard martini glass) with no caramel & sea salt rim as advertised. I felt so badly but did send it back. At this point she did very well and asked if I'd like to speak with a manger, I only said yes bc I knew she probably had no experience with a complaint, being it her first day. The "manager" came over and asked what the problem was. I replied "I'm paying $17 for a drink I'd like a full martini. She replied that "they pour the martini's this way so the waitresses don't spill them on the way to the table" WOW it absolutely should be the other way around I thought, but anyway, I also asked if she could have it made again with the rim like it said on their menu. We literally waited another 15 mins, watched the "manger" who was more of a greeter than a helper, walk around and say hi to customers. I couldn't believe it when she brought the drink back 15 mins later with no rim, & about three quarters of the way full. I asked about the rim and she replied "oh the bartender added caramel to the drink" you could clearly see a huge pile of caramel at the bottom of martini glass. GROSS. That was a wrap on the drink. I had ordered Baked Stuffed Haddock and my husband ordered the Fried Chicken Supreme. We waited well over an hour on our dinners while poor Kailey kept apologizing to us. Right when we were about to call it on the dinners she said it would be up in four minutes, that the Haddock was done and she was just waiting on the chicken. When she finally brought it over the haddock was of course overcooked and The "Fried Chicken Supreme" turns out is a plate of chicken tenders and fries! WOW. At this point we were starving and said we were not paying for the chicken or martini, both of which we did not consume. I felt SO BADLY for the new waitress but the so called manager should have comped the bill, I have for muchhhhhh, much less. Anyway we paid for the haddock we took to go, and the gingerale, tipped Kailey ofc, and left there wicked annoyed, wicked hungry, and most definitely NOT going back. After meeting the "manager" and how she handled everything, it was most definitely a case of VERRRRRRY POOR MANAGEMENT. This is an old-school restaurant. Dated in the best way. I would not change a thing. My sister and I have been coming here for years. They have consistently delicious home style dishes that have been perfected through the years. Their seafood is always fresh and cooked to perfection. There is something for everyone here. The wait staff are excellent, no matter how busy they have been we have always been treated like their only customer. My Sister got fish and chips with mashed potatoes instead of fries, and a side of butternut squash. Yes that picture is all thick white flaky haddock, no fries on that plate. I got the Cajun seafood sauté. Angel hair pasta was not listed, but I asked and they did it. It was nice and spicy with plenty of shrimp and scallops. I told she could seat the people who walked in after me and I can place my togo after because she had no idea how to ring in my quart of seafood chow togo! This is a place that seems like it's been there forever-- kind of a place for old timers. For example, you can get mashed potatoes with gravy with any seafood dish. The food was okay and we were hungry. The prices were a bit high but we were hungry. The seafood was all fine but the ribs my husband ordered looked like they'd been cut off of a brontosaurus. He said he'd never been so scared by his dinner. I would go back just to be waited on by our waitress. A woman straight out of central casting, a waitress you could only get in the Boston area. They Wanted to seat party of 6 in separate booths. When we stated our displeasure hostess thru the menus on the table and said that's all there is. restaurant was not crowded. We asked to move with the waitress who we knew said she would check. Came back said nothing she could do. we left. Realized the rest of our party was already seated. Went back in front desk said they were. not. we went on our own and found them. We waited an hour and 40 minutes to get our meals. This is our second bad experience in a month. We will not be returning which is to bad as this was our go to restaurant!! read more

Food is good but not low cost. Their soups are excellent. Their hours say they are open until 9 PM and there were a few other people in there so we took a chance at 745 PM after a special yearly day event we attend. We cancelled our reservations at a place we knew we would have had a lovely time in order to give HT our business. Now we wish they would have turned us away so we could have enjoyed ourselves somewhere else because they clearly wanted to go home. It has a salad bar but they picked that up without even asking us if we wanted anything else from it (it is part of the meal or you pay 7.99 for it) they just picked it up at about 8:05 PM. We were not lingering we were eating as fast as we could but they shut off the music, most the lights and literally cleaning all around us it was clear they wanted us to just LEAVE. We finally just asked for a to go box. Someone kept flipping the lights on and off really fast over and over for like 5 minutes like LEAVE LEAVE LEAVE and we felt so thrown out by 8:25 PM. If you don't want late customers, change your on line hours or warn us. We would have gladly gone somewhere else. Plus, we couldn't relax and talk at our one time per year special outing. The hostess/cleaning lady even laid down in a booth next to us and said she was tired! It was a weird experience. Next year, we will not be going there. Had a great experience on Friday night and Saturday morning! I called ahead( Friday night) party 8- 4 adults, 4 kids. Asked to seat in the lounge so parents could play keno. Waitress was great, and food was good as well. We had a mixture of things from onion soup, chicken piccata to fishermans plate and kids plates- all food was good.
