I was on vacation from Ct and stopped into Lena's to get seafood. I had the fish chowder it was excellent. We also had the onion rings and the fried clam strips. They were average. Cute place very friendly staff . They are closed Mon and Tuesday we actually hit it on Wednesday. Prices are average. Give it a try I was told it's local favorite. Excellent, you cannot go wrong at Lena's! And if ONION RINGS are your thing, they have regular fried (good) AND DRY (BEST rings anywhere, with dry corn meal on exterior, not greasy...fresh cut and stiff enough to play Ring Toss with them)...which are truly OUT OF THIS WORLD (ENCOYABLE)! Loved it! Drove here after leaving Newburyport on our way to Ogunquit. The person who took our order was so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. See picture! Clam chowder was milky/creamy and tastes great. Their tartar sauce was great as well. read more

The counter staff was very helpful explaining items on the menu. I got a half-plate of fried clams Nate really enjoyed. The onion rings were also very good. Nice cozy seafood restaurant and drive thru with window service and pickup plenty of seating for a nice comfortable meal. Got a lobster roll and it wasn't too big or too small was just the right size with plenty of meat both claws and body. A great disappointment. $36 clam plate. The clams were the smallest baby clams I have ever seen. Barely a belly. The coleslaw was in a ketchup size cup - thought it was the tartar sauce. 3 onion rings that looked and smelled like they were re-heated in oil. The size of the plate looked like 8 inches. The second plate had haddock and clams. The haddock was frozen - water in the plate and didn't even taste like haddock. Some white fish. Can't/won't go back. Felt ripped off. read more

Order at the counter and seat yourself. Wait for your ticket to be called and go back up to grab your meal. Despite this style of seating i was pleased with how clean the tables were! Large plates! Delish! No complaints! Went yesterday, partner got the grilled cheese and onion rings it was delish. I got the seafood plate with haddock, shrimp, and scallops, and clam strips. Food was "good" it wasn't bad it just wasn't my style of fried seafood. I feel like it was battered not breaded but I could be wrong. The breading/batter was all soft if that makes sense there was t any structure to the seafood after being fried. Just soft and limp. Flavor was good on the shrimp and scallops. Haddock was ok and strips were floppy and not good. It wasn't awful but I wouldn't go back with so many other places around unless they were so crowded i couldn't get in then I'd go here. read more

I would start out to say I've been coming here to Lena's seafood for decades and it's always the same quality quantity and great prices. I am a fried connoisseur. One of the owners Michelle you couldn't ask for a more polite nicer person if you want your seafood cook lightly or well done or anyway that you prefer it. I see Michelle she's great. I have been going to Lena's seafood since the 60's and will continue to go until the day that I die. the food, service and ambiance are all top notch. I always go for the ultimate challenge and go for the Captain hook platter. What a challenge. Onion rings are the best on the planet. We stopped here on the way up to Portland ME, it was an authentic family / counter service fish fry place, full of character and good bites. We got the lobster roll (20$ market price), and a sea food plate with clams, haddock, scallops, shrimp, and something else with fries and onion rings. It came up to about 60 $ with a few dollars in the tip jar. No drinks/alcohol here. We enjoyed and left happily full. read more

We stopped by for lunch. There is plenty of parking. The decor is nice and the theme seems to be whale. There's plenty of seating inside and out. We ordered the Captain Hook's Platter, which had slaw, onion rings, fries, dinner rolls, fried shrimps, scallops, whole clams, and smelts. Everything was fried perfectly and the oil tasted fresh. Lena's has become our go to spot for awesome fried seafood when traveling up and back to Maine. Everything is fresh and quick, never greasy and the best onion rings! Added bonus is we travel with 2 dogs - there are picnic tables outside that we can back right up to in the shade, open the back of the van where the crates are. We were all very happy with the clam strips, lobster rolls, fries and onion rings. It was too hot for us old ladies to go out, so we had a younger relative fetch it. I can't comment on the inside facilities, but the food was great. I always know when a lobster roll is good when I need a fork. And the clam strips were abundant. read more

This place gets 5 stars from me! My Mom & I would frequently eat lunch here 1x a year in the summer months, after a trip to St.Mary's cemetery on Storey Ave. in Newburyport, Ma. where my Aunt & Uncle are laid to rest. Have stopped in here a few times & always forget truly how great it is... A few miles away from the beach & all the traffic of the beach... They have a Drive-Thru... VERY DISAPPOINTED IN Lena's Seafood TODAY... The Scallops were soggy, batter falling off, the clams were a bit better but certainly not the best. The portions were smaller than the last time we went just a couple of weeks ago, and they're now charging $38 for what was about $31 last time. I am pretty sure we just ate for the last time at Lena's Seafood. SAD.... we've been eating there for well over 30 years and it is not the same as it use to be. read more

The seafood platter was piled high with perfectly fried haddock, clams, scallops, and shrimp. All the seafood was sweet, juicy, and tender. I substituted fries for onion rings for $3 extra. My chowder was also full of clam pieces and potatoes. The consistency was perfect too. I definitely recommend trying or coming here if you have a fried seafood platter hankering after a day in Newburyport or Portsmouth!

I have been traveling to Ipswich [Clam Box] for many years and always find them to be consistent. Not having the need to travel to Ipswich any more I stumbled upon Lena's and found them to be as consistent as the Clam Box. Fried clams are cooked to perfection, service is excellent, portions large, cleanliness outstanding and prices more reasonable than any other seafood restaurant on the North Shore, including the Clam Box. Take it from someone who has driven miles and miles in search of perfection of fried clams, Lena's is a great stop and will not disappoint seafood lovers. read more

Have been to Lena's a few times now and it is always a great time! I typically get the whole belly clams with the fries, onion rings, and coleslaw and they're all very good! I usually get the half plate and it is always more than enough, despite my big appetite. The price is also reasonable as well. Look forward to coming back soon! read more

disappointing ordered a half shrimp plate only got 5 shrimp. Fries are the cheapest they could buy as they were tiny in length. Onion rings are also frozen and they only give you 2 ,at $15 way over priced .To many other fish restaurant to go to to bother going back read more

But then our server came back and said that the kitchen couldn't make me *anything.* They claimed they were worried about cross contamination issues. Which I completely understand, but seriously? Nothing at all? I have been served bland chicken and water poached fish at other restaurants but this is only the second time in my life that I have been told that the kitchen couldn't make me anything at all. It's hard to imagine the state of their kitchen where they are concerned about cross contamination of literally all of their ingredients. The other alternative is that they were simply unwilling to accommodate my allergies, neither of which bodes well for other people with allergies or food restrictions. (My husband would like to apologize again to our waitress for his outburst. We recognize that she was merely the messenger.)
