Visited the area and popped in to grab a bite and of course indulged in my go-to of seafood options. I had the seafood platter which definitely comes with your monies worth of fresh seafood. The service was great, and the ambiance is a chill casual come as you are vibe. The seafood quality is great. The flavors on the other hand were a bit bland, and I needed to add lemon Tabasco, cocktail and, tartar sauce, but par for the area as I imagine that's how the residence of the area prefer their seafood. Overall it was good and I'd eat it again, and would add some Old Bay seasoning at least. read more

Better option than Sylvan Street. Have been here before and always liked the atmosphere. Fun Bar area. The unlimited TVs on with every game on the planet showing. I'm sure if there is some obscure game on. They could find it for you Plenty of tables with waiter service (it used to be order at the counter). When I saw the amount of different items on the menu, I was skeptical. Usually when a restaurant has too many options, none of them are great. But they pulled it off. Everything was fresh. Cooked perfectly. And tasted great. Burger was perfect. Fries were excellent. Side order of shrimp also good. Friends were pleased with their choices as well.... Kid friendly atmosphere. Had lunch here today, older building but clean. Our food was great. I had the steak sandwich with cheese and peppers. Friend had the Haddock plate. My steak sandwich was cooked perfect (med rare) its a big piece of steak not shredded. Very Good. The service was slow at first but it was busy and the server/bar tender was great. Pretty nice location and some good sports memorabilia with plenty of seats and a full bar. Good service as well. Food I never tried left but I had a beer and I asked for a glass they gave me a plastic cup and plastic knife and fork I said to myself they did this during Covid times which was a turn off since the beer was in a can. Then to make matters worse if you used a credit card they charge you a fee of 4% and another fee for the atm I can remember when restaurants were begging people to come back but putting fees on people to me it's not fair for hard working people so that's another downfall. read more

Booked the Skybox Function room for a birthday for my husband. Met with Jeff a few times to go over pricing and menu. All we had to do was decorate! I drank a Northern Haze by True North Ale Company (Ipswitch, MA) which I highly recommend - gorgeous deep gold/yellow color, fruity tangerine aroma from the Amarillo hops, and a hoppy kick to the aftertaste that isn't too overpowering such that even those just getting into IPAs or hoppy brews shouldn't be overwhelmed. Rich and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. It was my first time in town and I even made friends with another guest from across the bar. This place was a great find! Spent the day in Salem but getting a table for dinner was near impossible. Hell, getting a beer was nearly impossible in Salem! Anyway, found this diamond in the rough through Yelp. We were looking for some entertainment and this place did not disappoint! Tons of pool tables, tons of TVs, arcade games, Keno...it really had it all! Drinks were well done and brought in VERY short order! We had pizza for dinner and it was outstanding. The nostalgia of my grandmothers basement wasn't a great atmosphere to watch a sporting event at. Place hasn't been renovated since the 70's, from the decor and lead painted walls. Here what you must understand family people. This is a sports bar with sports bar food and a bar with TV's. In my opinion, not a place for kids. Leave them at home. That being said, there were 15 in our party. We had a few pizzas, wings, fried clams, fries and plenty of beer so here we go. First, no wait staff. You order up front and they call your number, you go get it. If you want a beer, you go get it at the bar. Now the food, The pizza was excellent. A thicker dough to the crust but extremely flavorful. The wings will knock you down. A bit to hot for me. Left a burn on my lips for awhile. The clam plate seemed a bit skimpy, but sand free and fried nicely. Activities: Pool, darts, old school arcade games, TVs all over the place, Keno, pull tabs and upstairs for special events. Staff: Staff is great. Bartenders are a riot- best part of the place is them. Great banter amongst themselves as well the regulars. Clientele: During the day many regulars, made up of teachers, veterans, professionals, and tradesman. Haven't seen any bums or drunkards drink there. At night and weekend you will see a younger crowd. During major sporting events and storms, the place is crazy busy, but you are able to get drink and food quickly. Decor: sports bar lots of wood and tables chairs. A little outdated, but appropriate for a local sports bar - it is clean. Restrooms: Men's bathroom is pretty basic sport bar bathroom. Place was ok. We passed it on the way home one night then decided to swing back for dinner. The vibe is cool. I like old school stuff like that. I can see a scenario where I'd come for football if I lived locally. The night we were there, they had mix tape bingo. Maybe some people dig it, but nobody seemed to be playing and only hearing 20 seconds of each song got old quick. If you're playing, it's probably cool, but if you're just chilling and having dinner, it kinda throws off the mood. Our food was ok. Wasn't great, didn't suck. About what we expected. Our server didn't seem like she was actually interested in 'serving'. "How is everything"? "Can I get you another drink?" Not hard. She basically took our order and brought our check - someone else actually brought us our food. I'm pretty laid back and even I said "she's in the wrong line of work" on the way out. Well. It's happened again. Yelp has rejected my original review because it wasn't substantive enough and didn't describe my actual experience. It read like this: "Winner's Circle"? More like "Loser's Circle" Which is the most obvious joke ever for a sucky dive sports bar and I used it IRONICALLY too. Which makes me cool. Right? So, more expansively I might say the place is dirty and disorganized. The food counter is awkward and the ATM always busted. The food is disgusting. Nachos? A nasty, soggy mess of cheese and beans... but in a bad way. With about a billion places with tvs that show every sporting event that happens everyday why would anyone come here unless the lived within walking distance? This place makes Sylvan Street look good but still wins out over Buffalo Wild Wings. FAIL read more

If you're looking for a neighborhood dive bar, this is your place. As mentioned by another reviewer, it's an awkward set up for a dine in restaurant. I had to ask the girl stationed at the lottery machine if we should wait to be seated, where to order. On our visit on 2/16/14 I ordered a fried clam plate $16 and a fried haddock plate $11. On their white board I saw that they had homemade onion rings; one order is $5. I asked that the fried haddock plate have the onion rings in place of the french fries. They added $5 onto my bill. Our total was $32. We waited a reasonable amount of time and our order number was called. You have to pick up your order at the same place you placed it. No table service. My husband returned to our table with the two plates of food. There was a good quantity of fries and onion rings. The fried food was greasy, but once I absorbed the grease, the food tasted hot and fresh. The was a good amount of fish, my pieces were thin, not a fillet piece; the clams were good but not fully breaded. No malt vinegar to be found. The fries were frozen, and I knew immediately the onion rings were frozen. I went back to the ordering counter and said "These onion rings aren't homemade are they?" The counter person reluctantly and a bit embarrassed, said "No". I didn't ask, nor did he offer to refund me the $5 extra that I paid for homemade onion rings. I didn't eat the onion rings. The restaurant itself has a dark, cluttered sports memorabilia atmosphere, in need of updating. Space between some benches and table is narrow, so if you're stout you might want to opt for a table. The condiment bottles and salt and pepper shakers were sticky (tried several). Tables were clean and wiped down. Based on what I observed from the clientele, the Winner's Circle appears to be a great neighborhood hangout to have a few beers and play the lottery that also happens to serve food. The upstairs is a place you can have a private party. Full bar and bartender available for drinks. High top tables, mini booths for seating and they provide long tables where you can take in your own party food and/or have them bring up pizza or wings. We stopped in for a beer and some dinner on a Sunday night after traveling all day as this place was close to our hotel and looked like a nice sports bar from outside in the dark. What a total disappointment. When we walked in we noticed that the kitchen was a small area near the front door and there was a window to order your food, similar to being at a roller rink as a kid. We sat at the bar and ordered a couple draft beers. The bartender told us as he set them down that the whole place was cash only, and the beers that were $5 each were served in clear plastic cups. Really? We asked if we could order food and he agreed to place the order. I ordered the fish soup, my wife a chicken sandwich. After he took the order he walked it over to the window and every few minutes we heard them calling numbers over a loud speaker. It was extremely annoying. We had to ask to have the bartop in front of us wiped down when our food arrived, as it was dirty with crumbs of food from the last patrons. He came back with a wet rag and wiped it down leaving it dripping wet. Our food came out in disposable dishes with cheap plastic silverware. We had to ask for napkins and the bartender brought back a stack of cocktail napkins from the bar. The chowder was ok, although consistency was very thin almost like warm milk with butter. The chicken sandwich was small and on a cheap grocery store hamburger bun, we probably would have had a better one at the Burger King next door. Food looked like take out so maybe drinks were too. There were a group of guys hanging out at the door. One pointed out where the tvs were but that was the extent of our conversation. This place is an okay place for a night out with friends to watch a game but not a destination spot for dinner. The food is not bad but there is nothing special about it either...pub food (and not great pub food) Service is okay at the bar...not very social if you aren't a regular and if you sit at a table you go to a counter to order and wait for your number to be called. The bartender seemed irritated when I ordered soda and informed him that I was tonight's driver. He actually called me lame. You would think that they want people leaving responsibly from their business. Had to flag him down to order some mozzarella sticks and didn't bother trying to order anything else after that. He didn't offer either. Whatever, we came to play keno anyway. Pool tables, keno, scratch tickets, video games, dart boards and tons of tv's are everywhere for your entertainment. we went here to watch the celtics with some friends last night. we got there early and got a table right in the front, the main TV is big enough so even if you sit near the back you can still see pretty well. We decided to order some food/drinks while waiting for the game to start... there are no waiters/waitresses at this place. You go up and order your food and they call your number when it's ready. We ordered pizza, seasoned french fries and mozzarella sticks. While waiting for our food, we went up to the bar. Most of our friends got beer, however I don't drink beer. Once I realized that wine was probably not an option, I asked for a long island iced tea. which they don't make. The bartender said they wont make a drink with more than two types of alcohol in it..... swell. I then looked at their drink menu, picked another type of drink... which they also couldn't make because they didn't have the right ingredients.....(sigh).... about to give up I asked the bartender for a recommendation, he replied "i never make these drinks". fabulous. I ended up paying $6 for some random tiny drink that was filled to the brim with ice. We waited about 15 minutes for our food then our number was called. I was overall impressed - especially for bar food. the pizza was good, the crust was my favorite part. The seasoned fries were excellent too. The overall experience was good; the crowd was great and very diverse.. older&younger people mixed.. all respectful of one another. parking is pretty ample and we didn't have to pay a cover. So, yeah it's a little divey and could use a good cleaning, but this place has THE BEST fish chowder in the area. You can only get it on Saturdays and its fresh fresh fresh! I come here with my mother. It's a good place for food, a couple pints, and some keno and scratchers. The oddity here is that they have like a "concession stand" area where you go up and order your food- then go to a booth and go back up when they call your number. It works though. Most of the food is pubbish. It has a game room for kids (and kids at heart) and tons of big screen sports. If they cleaned up this place a bit, it would be a solid 4 stars. read more

Good cheap food and beer, good entertainment. the good: -good priced alcohol, around $3-4 dollars for a sam adams, $4-5 for a mixed drink, don't expect to order a long island iced tea though, they don't do cocktails here. -Food is cheap, greasy, and delicious. I recommend the loaded nachos or the burgers. -Atmosphere. This is a great place to go with a couple of your friends, grab some beers and relax and catch a (red sox/bruins/celtics/patriots) game or shoot some pool. The staff/bartenders are friendly and will hang out and talk with you. Lots of regulars and townies go here. If your looking for hip-hop music and dancing, this place really isn't for you. -TVs/pool tables/arcades/gambling. There's always something to do, the games are always on. The bad (minor gripes) -cash only -Kids. This place is a sports bar but it's still a family restaurant as well. Okay so I had read some other reviews of this place, negative ones. I wish to address a couple of things. As far as design, the place could use a little TLC and updating. Cracked tile floors, pieces of duct tape on the carpet edge in the pool room. That being said, the place is otherwise clean. Not immaculate, but there's just the little details like no dust on the baseboards and the floors are not sticky and gross. Bathroom was also clean. The staff are taking good care of this place. Yes, beers come in plastic cups. For environmental reasons, not a big fan because of the waste. But having worked in a setting where you have a bar (many moons ago) it's a pain in the neck cleaning glasses while working. All you have to do is just throw the cup away. It is easier on the staff and decreases the chance for broken glass. Also, you know for sure that your cup is clean. The bar and sports rooms have a large amount of flat screen televisions. This place has a small arcade area. It was okay for selection. The place my bud and I spent most of our time in was the Billiard room playing pool. It's a dollar a game, which I felt reasonable. The theme is a sports bar, I'm not a sports guy. But this bar offers more than just sports and can handle a lot of people. I like the idea of the ordering for food, there's a counter at the kitchen. You order than they call your number. They were smart and called it the "concession stand," which ties into the sports theme. I didn't get anything to eat, but their menu was a standard pub fare (burgers, fried foods, pizza). This is a cash only place, but there is an ATM located under a set of stairs leading to the second floor. I didn't interact with the staff too much. We ordered two rounds of drink for the most part. Typical pool hall. Nothing fancy. Cash only, bar service only. Family owned and kind of a dive locals spot (in a good way) - but they are accommodating to anyone. I hate drinking out of plastic cups but it is what it is, better than a potentially dirty glass. Once witnessed a woman in a short skirt slightly intoxicated late night, canoodling with another woman on one of the pool tables. The pub grub is cheap and simple: basic burgers, sandwiches, and salads; and assorted side orders, with some fried fish thrown in for good measure given the proximity to the coast. And lots of beers. But the Winner's Circle is not just a pub; it also prides itself on featuring over 70 TVs, but of course this also includes the Keno TVs on the bar side tables. It's a Boston sports bar and you can play Keno from every table. It's cash only, and your order your food when you first walk in. You're going to have to listen carefully for your number to be called over loudspeakers. All that being said, there are some gems on the menu. Pizza is doughy, but good. My favorite sports bar. It is what it is.....a sports bar. The beer is always fresh, and cheap. They have plenty of tvs to watch the game, and there is also pool tables, table tennis, arcades, golden tee and a function room upstairs. The food is very good for a pub, and they have a wide selection. The club sandwiches are excellent, all of them. Pizza is also very good. I had a steak sandwich there, stay away from that. Awesome selection of flavored fries, along with the originals. They really have anything you can think of, every type of fried food you could ask for.....chicken, seafood, cheeses, fries.
