Walking in 7 minutes after opening, this place was already packed. Full of Patriots fans hooping and hollering to the end of the fourth quarter. Every appeared in a merry mood, and everyone knew each other it seems. Service here was great. Our waitress whipped around the room with finesse and speed, working the bar and tables all by herself. She was to the point but pleasant. The beers are ok, but they aren't anything spectacular. An average selection of nearby beers of all varieties. Going to other breweries in New Hampshire, I know that this state can produce good beers. Perhaps they just had a mediocre selection the week I was there. We ordered a medley of items and most of it was hit and miss. In the sampler, the pork cracklings were decent, although dinner pieces were hard to chew since they turned into a dense fried bit. The fries were ok, but standard. The tator tot was actual pretty good, but there's this sweetness and texture that makes me think of pumpkin? That could be upsetting to some. The chicken tenders are ok, but the breading isn't seasoned or exciting in texture. It felt like how I would fry chicken at home with only one coat of breading. The pickle chips were good, even though they were not spicy at all. If they called these paprika coated chips, then I would agree. But texture wise, they were actually crisp and not super watery. The pulled pork tacos are ok, but they rely more on sweet barbeque sauce more than anything else. The tortillas are subpar in flavor, but sturdy enough to hold everything together. The veggies slaw did add some nice acidity though. The wedge salad here is terrible. I should have looked up what others posted before I ordered it. It was a literal wedge of plain iceberg, with all the other ingredients and fixings dumped in the middle. The stuff in the middle was ok, but nothing felt harmonious. Just a bunch of salad ingredients added to a giant paper tray. It felt like a waste of 9 dollars for what was lazy preparation.

The sushi menu was larger than I expected and the two rolls we ordered were delicious. The sizing of the sushi wasn't very consistent, but it had good flavor. The steak tips were cooked well. I was just trying to make conversation/introduce myself but the same thing happened it previous visit with the waitress. Really soured the whole experience especially since she went on to talk to everyone else in the bar. I'm still trying to adjust to small town life and felt really bad not getting the nice conversation I am used to at other bars. All the food was incredible but also super expensive. When we'd been here before we got the sushi which was amazing. An appetizer, a burger, and a single beer plus 20% tip cost us $50+ If you want great food go to the spot, if you want friendly conversation and good prices this isn't the spot.

So we drove 45 minutes to hit this pub that serves 100 different kinds of hamburgers. Our waitress was extremely patient and attentive, returning to the table several times to see if we were ready to order, and laughing each time we said " I'm still reading this thing." I had a blue cheese and bacon burger ($16). He had a Hawaiian ($16). We both ordered medium-rare and upgraded from the included fries to the onion rings ($4) And really, perfection was delivered. The food was fresh and hot. Obviously not held under a heat lamp. The burger bun was soft and fresh, sturdy enough to stand up to the juiciness of the patty. The burger was perfectly formed. Thick and fitting the bun all around... no slop. The toppings were delicious. On the side of the dish, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Both burgers were perfectly medium-rare. Pink from edge to edge. (I suspect sous-vide in use, otherwise, magic.) What can I say about the onion rings? I usually don't get onion rings because they are usually a soggy, greasy, slimy disappointment. I don't know why I upgraded but I'm glad I did because they were the best onion rings I've ever had. Hot. Crispy. No grease. No murdered onion falling out of breading falling apart. The dessert sundae looked sooo good. But that burger and rings had filled all available space. We drank only ice water, and with tax and tip the whole thing came out to $51. There's no reason for this place to have 2.5 stars. Either there are bad reviews for a previous owner or there is some kind of vendetta or sabotage.)

Somehow they manage to make it feel both healthy and a little decadent. We also love the flatbreads and deserts, and the chicken sandwich and burgers have been great as well - really can't miss. The only thing really missing is a few more solid vegetarian protein options - it would be wonderful to be able to get a grilled tofu steak on that Asian Quinoa Salad. Service is fantastic - you enter from the patio side (steps up front and ramp along back of the patio). These guys are well and professionally staffed and we've always been met and seated quickly. All of our servers have been knowledgeable and helpful in making selections. They have regular tables, high tops, bar seating and outdoor tables. There are dedicated water bowls for anyone who brings a pup (outdoors only) and the dogs I've seen have been well behaved and adorable. We've never brought our dog, but he's still greeted and admired by staff as we pass by on a walk. That really says all you need to know about the wonderful people. Parking is in the lot right out front surrounding the small High Street courtyard or on the street. The dining patio overlooks that same courtyard. All in all a great combination of good food and a nice but casual atmosphere.

The pork belly sandwich special was an unforgettable mouthful: juicy, cheesy, and perfectly stacked on toasted rye that added the ideal crunch. We were shocked (in the best way) by the salad portions--massive! Easily enough to feed a family of four, and fresh as can be. The cornbread? Soft, sweet, and heavenly with the honey butter. We did think a little toast would've helped that butter melt just right--but still a must-order. The house pickles were crisp with the most satisfying snap and bold flavor. We also tried the hush puppies with their unique dipping sauce--super creative, though not totally our vibe. Limited seating means you might wait, but trust us--it's absolutely worth it. Booth or table seating. The Rusty Can is a flavor-packed experience from start to finish.
