Crispy, tender and delicious, go ahead and treat yourself. The fried haddock sandwich came with a thick and oversized fillet, which couldn't be contained by the bulkie roll it sat atop of. The Barn is a staple here in the community and Leo is a genuinely kind human being. Just dont tell anyone, he would hate for that to get around lol. Seriously, I had a massive motorcycle accident years ago, and didn't know Leo at the time, but he reached out and brought me lunch once a week for 8 weeks, while I was stuck in bed with out the ability to move. Never knew the guy before that day, and I have been a HUGE fan ever since. Quit eating red meat a while back but before that The Barn was my goto for burgers. Only the best meat and great size. Stopped in couple weekend ago for an adult dessert. Ordered an expresso martini and watched her ask another worker if they had expresso. Heard the other worker say no. Watched bartender continue to add more bailey's in replacement. Covered the inside of glass with chocolate which is not in an expresso martini. Drink was completely disgusting. When asking bartender what she made the drink with she lied to my face. Just say im sorry I don't have anymore expresso and I would of gladly gotton something else. I recently gave it another shot. I dropped by while doing sales calls in Amesbury. The parking is in a shared lot, so it was very easy. The place was very clean and was greeted when I entered. Seems Like a very friendly place where people would know you. The place was clean. I ordered the Barn 1/2 lb burger and a draft Sammy. The fries were HOT, which is too rare nowadays. The burger was actually cooked to medium, just as I ordered. Most places will cook to med-well but his place nailed it. Very friendly service and good food. Stopped in for a quick lunch. Immediately greeted by a sour puss who was not happy that we requested outdoor seating. There is no river view as claimed. We had about 3 seconds to look at the menu before the waitress aggressively came over to take order. It did arrive promptly however we were attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets and had to ask to come inside where we were promptly forgotten about. Took 7 years to get a bill which was incorrect and belonged to someone else. Colossal lobster roll not as colossal as you'd like to believe. Took over an hour for a takeout order of lobster roll with onion rings and baked artichoke hearts. Didn't have my drink order taken for at least 20 minutes and then ordered a Blue Moon and got a local IPA...not even close to the same. By the time I got my order back to the local hotel, food was no longer hot. Lobster roll had good flavor and plenty of meat. What I believe was the owner or manager was more interested in selling lottery tickets than in ensuring customers were taken care of. Bartender was overwhelmed even though there were only about 20 people in the entire place. Would go back if I had to, but plenty of other places to try first. read more

The best pub grub I've had in a while. Seriously, the chicken finger basket was awesome. A group of us ended up here because we couldn't find another restaurant we were looking for. The Barn has a huge bar in the center of the first floor, and a few booths out back. The beers are cheap. We're talking 2.75 cheap. You cannot beat that. Also, like previously mentioned, it has Keno. Okay, so it's a little tough to locate but well worth the find! The bar is rustic but a fairly clean looking tavern, much like a country pub. The night we went it was very busy, but we did luck out and get two spots at the bar. The appetizers were delicious and the dinners were perfect. The bartender knew everyone and she was very quick and attentive. We made our way downstairs to the game room later: what a wild place! Serioiusly, its called the Barn... what do you expect. Its a local hang out with Cheap beer, selection isnt bad, about a 6 outta 10, got your normal stuff, but some better microbrews. But the food is about a 3 outta 10, its Drunk Food, I get drunk, and I need to eat. Nachos & sampler are a good standard to measure food by, and the Nachos were all canned ingredients, tomatos were hard, sour cream in a package, Salsa was canned. The Sampler was weird, (2) Fried ravioli, dry chicken fingers, Jal. Poppers (they were ok), the Waffle fries were good, but that was about 60% of the sampler. This place is what it is. What is it? A crappy dive bar for Amesbury locals around the rotary. Amesbury is basically a ghost town after 9 p.m. and with a few bars around the downtown area, this is the one the not so high brow class goes to. The menu is generic pub fair of pizza, sandwiches, and beef and fish entrees. The prices are cheap, which they have to be because the food is not good. The beer selection is poor with really only your generic brand labels available. It really hasn't been properly cleaned in years and it smells the same as it did when people could still smoke here. It's very dirty inside and could use some professionals to come in here. I don;t know why they have a function room here because any event held would reek of unprofessionalism. It's usually empty of patrons when I do come occasionally when visiting a friend in the area, but there's real reason to come here. General avoidance is strongly recommended. read more

First, I want to say that Thom K. (9/16/2011) is an idiot...his review is the reverse of any experience I've ever had at the Barn! That being said, I LOVE THE BARN! Comedy nights are hilarious! OMG...the combo of guacamole (not too spicy/not bland), and a BLT was one I wouldn't have thought of myself, but being a girl originally from the SW, I had to try it. Wow!!! It is a taste sensation! I also highly recommend the haddock here! My family are Nova Scotia fishermen and I'm very spoiled with fish. I usually can't tolerate it anywhere but in NS because it's just not fresh enough. Well, the Barn has got it going on with their haddock supplier and it was cooked to perfection! The service is friendly, the place is locally owned and operated - with one of the husband/wife owners almost always present! - and they have CLEAN bathrooms. Listen folks, this is a PUB. If you're looking for fine linens and waiters with snooty attitudes that have been threatened within an inch of their lives in this bad economy to be at your beck and call, then go elsewhere! If you're looking for a friendly, happy, comfortable, clean, good food, good drinks and fun place, then GO TO THE BARN! S***hole doesn't begin to describe this place adequately. Hasn't been cleaned seemingly since the 70s. There were crumbs *everywhere* on the bar, not that the bartender could see them because there was so much crap on his side of the bar. The Keno sign should have been a clue. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, then wasn't enthused by anything on the menu. The bartender, once he'd finished complaining to customers across the bar about everyone wanting to cash out at the same time before the comedy show upstairs, pointed out the specials, and that's what I ended up ordering (typically a good bet). I ordered the baseball steak; steak wrapped in bacon with blue cheese, potato and vegetable and a Monstah IPA. The beer was served warm in a glass that was not clean; not dirty, but not beer clean. I might have pointed this out but, a) I didn't think it was going to do much good, and b) the bartender was less attentive than a toll-taker. The food came reasonably quickly, but did not improve my optimism. The steak was good sized and looked adequately cooked. The fries were pub fries but were a bit undercooked. I've always wondered if they still produced the 5-gallon pails of vegetables we had in the high school cafeteria 25 years ago, and the green beans gave me my answer: alive and not well. I began with the green beans because I didn't get a steak knife, or even a plastic butter knife for that matter. Trying to make the best of it, I joked to my wife that maybe the steak was actually that tender. It wasn't. The woman who brought the food out was over near the silverware, but was more concerned with the Keno cards than with our attempts to get her attention. Likewise, the bartender was more interested in his discussion about the TV channels (Fox News) than with our attempts to get his attention. Finally we managed to ask him for a steak knife. He apologized and attempted a joke about it being fork tender. I gave him points for trying but also mentioned that I'd tried that. I ate my food but did not finish my tepid beer. We eventually got our check. I am a 20% minimum tipper and you really need to try hard to get me below that, let alone below 15%. Mission accomplished. I wouldn't feed this food to animals I was trying to trap, and I wouldn't approve of the service even if it was delivered to Yankees fans. In short, nothing about this experience didn't suck. By the time we left (not particularly full), my stomach hurt like hell. I celebrated my evening out with a brutal attack of gas shortly after returning home. Stay away! If this place is the best option, get in your car and drive to the nearest McDonald's -- at least you know what you're getting into. read more

This is a great place to go when you don't feel like getting all dressed up to go to one of Amesbury's classier establishments and want some good pub food and cheap drinks. I'm sold on their lobster roll. It's delicious, fresh and available year round. Now, I'll be honest, I was a little wary to order a lobster roll here, since I have fairly demanding standards in this arena. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they do a much better job with it than most area seafood shacks. The XL hot bun is nicely grilled with a big portion of fresh and tasty meat inside served with steak fries. Can't beat it for $15. As of this writing there are a lot of low ratings for The Barn, but in my experience the food is consistently good and service is always prompt and courteous. read more

Just as good if not better than anything you'll see in Boston, without the parking issue (huge parking lot at the Barn Pub &Grille) and no high prices for food and drinks. Huge room upstairs ensures that every seat offers a clear view of the stage. Restaurant & Bar downstairs is friendly...the type of place where everybody knows your name.
