Tavern on High is definitely a favorite place of ours these days. My go to is the Asian Quinoa Power Bowl with chicken. Somehow they manage to make it feel both healthy and a little decadent. We also love the flatbreads and deserts, and the chicken sandwich and burgers have been great as well - really can't miss. The only thing really missing is a few more solid vegetarian protein options - it would be wonderful to be able to get a grilled tofu steak on that Asian Quinoa Salad. Service is fantastic - you enter from the patio side (steps up front and ramp along back of the patio). These guys are well and professionally staffed and we've always been met and seated quickly. All of our servers have been knowledgeable and helpful in making selections. They have regular tables, high tops, bar seating and outdoor tables. There are dedicated water bowls for anyone who brings a pup (outdoors only) and the dogs I've seen have been well behaved and adorable. We've never brought our dog, but he's still greeted and admired by staff as we pass by on a walk. That really says all you need to know about the wonderful people. Parking is in the lot right out front surrounding the small High Street courtyard or on the street. The dining patio overlooks that same courtyard. This is a very popular spot amongst our coworkers for lunch or after work drinks. I've probably tried all their appetizers by this point and they are all amazing. It is a bar so expect mostly bar food, but their service is always quick and attentive. I like their cheesesteak egg rolls and chicken wings the best. During holiday season they have seasonal drinks. If I could give it a 3.5, I would, but since I can't, I'm rounding down. To start off, the place itself has ample amount of seating - high tops, low tops, and bar seating. The french onion soup was very rich and flavorful and not too salty, but I don't know if it's $10 worth for the size you get. The Tavern Tenderloins were nicely cooked and the marinade tasted delicious. The green beans were nicely cooked, very basic ingredients from what I could taste, butter and garlic. The mashed potatoes however were cold and bland AF. There was absolutely no seasoning on those potatoes. The spicy Cajun chicken sandwich was not spicy at all. Honestly, the only thing I actually tasted was the guacamole which wasn't bad. The chicken itself was nicely fried and I have no complaints. The star of that dish were the fries. Really, really disappointing. My daughter and her boyfriend come here a lot so my wife and I decided to try it. Mistake. OK, here we go. For an app we got the steak and cheese rolls and they were very good. Peach Old Fashioned was awful, they used a cheap whiskey which shone through any of the flavoring they were trying to achieve with their special cocktail. The Plum Mojito was so bad, my wife sent it back, and she NEVER sends stuff back. I'm usually the a-hole at the table. Service sucked. The woman who waited on us was rude and aloof. After the mains we received the check. Uhhh, what about dessert? I guess not. OK, one less thing to write/complain about. The mains were a split decision. I had the Big Mac Wrap which I was very excited about. I think that I was first online when McDonalds introduced it. My waistline can confirm this. However, this abomination was so far away from the Big Mac flavor, that the chef must have been blind, drunk and in a coma with his tongue in a cast. What a tragedy. The meat was repurposed from the nachos side of the kitchen. The nacho spices were so overpowering, I almost called for my Mariachi Band to come play for us. No trace of a Big Mac there. The fries were excellent however. It's important. My wife's half chicken was passable. It was juicy but fairly flavorless. The whole chickens at Whole Foods put it to shame. The mashed potatoes were mediocre, nothing to write home about. The broccolini was OK too but fairly bland, nothing special. Well that's it folks. What a hidden gem! My sister has gone to school in the area for 4 years and we just discovered this place and I wish it was sooner! I've been a few times and have yet to be disappointed. The martinis are to die for! The seasonal ones are good but I loved the Gummy Bear Martini and the White Cosmo Martini. The Smokehouse Mac & Cheese and the Chicken on High are very good. The steak and cheese eggrolls came in true egg roll packaging and were a solid 4/5. The buffalo chicken dip was so delicious-- 5/5. The gummy bear martini was both strong and sweet-- 4/5. The special "chocolate-covered strawberry" martini was very good (the server said I was the first one to try it!)-- 5/5. The special Maple Fig Manhattan was also very strong - a 3.5/5. Slim vegetarian options include substituting a mushy black bean burger (or impossible burger) which are MORE expensive than beef burgers, or the strangely sweet flatbreads.
