stopped in for lunch on father's day. restaurant had a father's day menu which we did not anticipate. ordered a chicken sandwich and flatbread. flatbread was decent. flavor is on the sweeter side but overall was tasty. the chicken sandwich was. to the best. the chicken breast was thicker on one side and was not consistently cooked. it was also just slightly warmer than room temperature. the bottom bun was absolutely soggy. i'm gong to guess the sandwich sat there waiting for the flatbread so they could serve it together. read more

Very cute place with nice ambiance! Loved the decors. The servers were attentive, but it was also a very quiet night. The espresso martinis were on point, especially the chocolate raspberry espresso. Lots of options for tapas. The truffle tots were great. My only complaint- the Wanda Wings were dry, definitely overcooked. Wanted to try the dips but they were out. This place is even better than I thought it would be. From the decor, to the food, to the drinks, I highly recommend it! We came here for brunch, but looks like they are open at night too which we'll try next time. Their coffees are great and come in cute glasses. I love that anything on the menu can be made gluten free! It was hard to choose, but I went with the that's what I tot bowl. It was delicious and a great portion, I couldn't finish it all. This is a cute place, and the service was fine. The menu is inventive, but flavor and texture wise the food isn't anything I would seek out again. Three of us, 1 had the ceasar salad with chicken (I don't know what she thought, but it didn't look like anything special and she certainly didn't come close to finishing it). I had the tater tot thing with eggs on it. Tasted fine, ended up sort of mushy, 3rd had the cheese burglar-- picture 2 white bread, American cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, and put a hamburger in between them. If you are going to put a grilled cheese and a hamburger together, you should end up with something that's better than just a grilled cheese or just a hamburger. And that wasn't the case here. Go here for a drink by the electric fireplace, but maybe skip the food. read more

This is such a cute place. The owners did an excellent job when designing this place, right down to every detail. I've been a couple times and brought different sets of friends - everyone has loved it. The food is good. My only suggestion would be to turn down the really bright lighting a bit to go with the already awesome vibe this place has. The last time we went around 6 pm, it felt like we had spotlights on us. I assume it was just forgotten that one particular night to turn the lights down so no big deal. We will be back! This place is a gem to have in Acton. read more

Velvet Vine Cafe opened recently in the former Holy Grail space on Great Road (MA 2A) in Acton, across the road from Colonial Chevrolet. The space was redone, which features a full service cocktail bar with seating, table seating and high top tables, faux fireplace and two artfully decorated bathrooms in the back. The evening food menu offers a selection of small bites fare including a meat & cheese board, fried mac & cheese bites, 3 dips, steak bites, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed peppadews, bourbon wings, burrata & crostini and housemade desserts. During the daytime, they offer the breakfast & lunch cafe menus which includes coffee & espresso drinks, boozy coffees, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, breakfast bowls, lunch sandwiches/wraps, mac & cheese, and salads. The bar offers beer, wine, cocktails, and mocktails. The pricing tends to be moderate high. I stopped by Velvet Vine Cafe for late night food recently. The place wasn't too busy on a Thursday night and I took a seat at a high top table. I was given a menu to look over and given a glass of cold water with the glass bottle left at the table for easy refills. I opted to stick with water and ordered the When I dip, you dip, 3 dips ($24 plus tax) and the Stuffed Peppadews ($16 plus tax). My food came out together in 15 minutes after ordering. The When I dip, you dip, 3 dips was comprised of Chicken Bacon Ranch, Spinach Artichoke & Buffalo Chicken dips served with blue corn tortilla chips and toasted crostinis for dipping. The Stuffed Peppadews were comprised of 6 peppadews stuffed with a sweet goat cheese filling over arugula & hot honey. After I was done, I ordered dessert and chose Creme Brulee ($12 plus tax), served cold. This creme brulee had a cool creamy custard, caramelized hard on top, topped with fresh blueberries & whipped cream. The check was presented, which came out to $55.64 with tax and before tip. Overall, the late night food I had was very enjoyable. I almost went with the Wine Me, Dine Me, which the other table ordered and had a nice assortment of cheeses, meats, fig spread, olives, peppadews, fig spread & ale mustard. The service was very friendly and attentive during my visit. I will definitely have to come back during day to try their cafe menu. read more

Went for lunch on a Saturday recently. The food was just okay and a bit expensive for what you get. For instance, an order of deviled eggs which consisted of 2 eggs (4 egg halves) and some undressed arugula was $16. That's $8 per egg! The French toast tasted like the oil in which it was prepared wasn't fresh. The basic breakfast was as basic as could be, i.e. no jelly or other spread offered for the English muffin, and not so much as a piece of parsley for garnish. Might as well have been take out from a diner (but pretty sure it would have cost less). The ambiance was nice and they seem very proud of their "vibe". Probably better suited for evening than lunch because it's very dark. Service was also basic. Our waitress did the minimum one expects at a restaurant and was not at all welcoming or friendly. And not because she was too busy. There was only one other couple dining at the time. Which probably says something. read more

really wanted to like this place it looked very cool online however my time there was not good. To start with the place has a musty damp smell to it, the smell was definitely not the smell of gourmet food or espresso. But the most painful part was how cold it was in there. We were there an hour and my toes were so cold I couldn't feel them, my nose was cold, my hands were cold and when are food came out it almost immediately became cold. I mentioned to the waitress how cold it was and really got no response except for oh you're cold? I ordered the mushroom flatbread, the dough was barely cooked, it was white and floury. There was a ton of cooked canned mushrooms, some oil and piled high with arugula. The martinis were OK. Because we were so cold we asked if they had any hot drinks and they suggested a hot cocoa with a shot of vodka. What we got was packaged cocoa and a shot of bottom shelf vodka for $15 per cocoa, I still have the receipt! Most things were overpriced but the instant cocoa with a shot of bottom shelf vodka was just too much. Also it was a Friday night in there were less than 10 people in the place. I know there are small business owner trying to make it but in order to do that they really need to step up the atmosphere and the quality. There are nicer restaurants in the area, unfortunately I could not recommend this place. read more

The place is very average in terms of ambiance, and as another reviewer mentioned, there is a defiant musty oder when you walk in, and I am not sensitive to smell. Additionally, the music was loud which was a distraction. The food was lackluster and the prices were very high for what you get. I do not recommend this resturant. read more

Pulling up to the restaurant in a cookie-cutter strip of retail storefronts, my expectations were low. Walking in, however, was like moving into another dimension. They have created a unique space that is at once startling and calming. Very friendly and competent service and a unique menu that manages to escape the try-hard pretentiousness of some restaurants. for four people, we ordered a selection of four small plates and the charcuterie. There was plenty of food for sharing. The goat cheese bites and the charcuterie in particular stood out. Try one of their espresso martinis and see why they took judges choice in a North End contest.
