Imagine this - you walk inside to what appears, on both the inside and outside, to be a dive bar. And it's true - you're vodka soda burns a whole in your heart, you get a bucket of high noons, there's a group next to you shaking their butt after being there for a few hours. You sense you'd have a decent time there with some townies. Then you smell something. You realize there's food here, even late night. Haddock chowder is on the menu? Oh god. But no... someone's food actually looks devine... those chicken tenders! Hm. You order food. AND ITS DELIGHTFUL. I did not see this coming. I have had the chicken tenders (boneless tenders) here and they were in all seriousness the best I've ever had - and I only had one drink prior! I mean it. Meat was thick and fresh, breading was perfect, fell off like a leaf in the fall time, and sauce cups triple of what any other place is giving out. My friend got the haddock chowder and clean bowl. Got a taste of onion rings and a wing and mmm mmm mmm. Down side - I'm not sure if servers exist here (and the kitchen takes some TIME) but if you're in no rush, not so hangry you might hurt someone, and with good company, then an underrated location from what the naked eye sees. read more

Overall the food is good NOT great and the particular waitress I had was not good. I ordered Jamaican jerk with as an appetizer they were yummy I would get them again. My only issue is the waitress asked if we wanted to place our orders yet or just the appetizers and we said just apps cause we haven't decided yet on meals. We ended up waiting about 40 mins for our apps to come and she never once in the 40 mins came to our table again to ask us what we'd like to order. After the apps came I had to stop the waitress in her path and tell her we are ready to order. After finally ordering the food came out my sub was bland and dry but the fried were very fresh and crunchy, I loved them. I went here to celebrate a friend's birthday & was overcharged on my TIP. My server was Nika & she did a good job serving but I don't understand how I was charged more for my tip than I visibly wrote on the receipt. Amazing fish and chips. Totally a "local" but don't underestimate the food or the hospitality. The fish was so tender and moist inside, crispy outside. The fries ere perfectly brown and not flaccid. First time here for takeout on a Friday night around 5:30pm. Ordering via phone was easy, meals were ready when I arrived exactly as quoted. Friendly server at the bar assisted me with checkout. Appeared to be a very local, regular crowd. We ordered the baked haddock with Cole slaw and onion rings and the steak tips with fries and the vegetable of the day which was broccoli. The haddock portion was on the smaller side but everything else was generous. The tips were perfectly cooked and fairly tender. We put the fries and onion rings in the air fryer when we got home and they were re-freshed perfectly. We'll be back! read more

Would have liked to try the food. The meals delivered to the table beside us smelled good. We got there around 10:45PM or so and asked the bartender about ordering food, were told kitchen is closed. When others behind us got food delivered after 11, we asked a different bartender that was nearby about getting food and she said the kitchen had closed at 11. Nobody at our table was giving attitude or any trouble. He was just asking nicely. And, in fact, we had gotten there before the kitchen closed... and he did not mention it. We accepted that we would not get food. We did not complain. Then, the original bartender came over, seemed really annoyed with us, and said that the other people called ahead to order and that's why they got food. She seemed unreasonably annoyed about it. Maybe the really loud guy beside us was making her crazy... Maybe something else happened earlier... who knows. All we knew was our first impression of the place was less than good. I was in the restaurant business for many years, and I get that people can be rude and nasty. But a perfectly nice person should not expect to be treated poorly because you have had a rough night. read more

The food came out wrong and took forever or was completely forgotten. One of us didn't receive our food. My steak tip salad was delivered with the tips on the salad when I asked on the side. I don't like hot lettuce. The steak was cooked well done and I ordered it med rare. When the waitress delivered it I said oh the steaks supposed to be on the side. The waitress walked away and I called her back and the attitude of indifference was mind blowing. The young thing acted like a witch actually scoffed at me. Great place to order wings. Went with the famous Buffalo (had to see what was famous about them). They are about average for a Buffalo wing. Also got the Carolina tangy gold with Cajun ranch and these absolutely rocked my socks off. So good! Definitely recommend if you are looking for a wing spot in the area, and they do takeout if you are looking for wings but not a bar scene. read more

Beautiful day in May and I just wanted a nice pint of Guinness. Surely a bar with an Irish flag proudly displayed would have pints on tap right? Wrong. After running some errands in the area, I decided to hop off I-495 in South Lawrence and take a much needed lunch break at J. Brian's Pub & Grille, which is located next door to Hee Bin (that place looked closed). J. Brian's is a casual and clean open concept sports bar dominated with a big U-shaped bar area with a great view of 4 HDTVs on the wall. There are also a few high top and regular tables, as well as an area with a pool table and dart boards. There's also a Mass Lottery scratch ticket machine on premises and you can also play Keno too. I arrived here around lunchtime and the place was pretty busy with most of the seats around the bar occupied. The Bruins game was just getting started. I did eventually find an empty seat at the bar. The bartender promptly took my drink order and started up a tab for me. I was given a food menu and some specials were posted on the board. The food offerings include the typical pub fare of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pasta dishes, steak, chicken, and seafood. The bar has several beers on tap and fully stocked with a good variety of liquor. This hot pressed sub sandwich was pretty good tasting which had carved roasted turkey, soft bread stuffing, and cranberries on a crusty sub roll. I should have asked for a different side since the other patrons sitting near me were getting salads or ziti with their entrees and salad. The food was pretty decent.and the service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. The bartender kept greeting me by first name and I was offered refills on the Diet Coke, which I definitely needed because of the salty fries. This local bar in lawrence is serious about their food. We came here on a Saturday night to watch the UFC fight, and the place was packed.. Service: The staff were very nice and really attentive to their customers, and they knew everyone by first name basis! Location: it's on route 28 in a small plaza next to a Korean bbq restaurant, with plenty of parking. Atmosphere: This is a great bar to watch sporting events with plenty of Tv's, also you can play Keno and they have a scratch ticket vending machine. Food: The menu has a little bit of everything, from subs, salads, burgers and also daily specials posted on the wall. We ordered the wings we heard so many great things about them and it was all true. Grilled to perfection and you can have them with bbq sauce, parmesan, hot chilli sauce or buffalo. There was a wait for them cause they take a little longer to grill than just frying them. It sure was worth the wait they were incrediblely tender and juicy. I also got the burger it was a nice thick pc, and the best part it was served on a brioche bun. That was a nice touch. We will be back again cause the wings are addicting.. read more

Ok, I read positive reviews and some reviews that shined a negative light on this place, but I was thirsty and hungry so I thought I'd give this pub a try. It was a typical pub ambiance, nothing negative there. I was greeted shortly after I found a seat... so far so good. I thought it strange that there were no beers on tap. I ordered a bottle of Sam Adams, it came quickly...Yes...not so bad. Then things went south. Nobody came by my table again...I waited for 20 or 30 minutes, watching waitresses flit about...that was enough. There seemed to be plenty of help, just none for me. Maybe they were just waiting for me to wave my hands in the air... not my thing. I flagged a waitress down so I could pay for my one beer and I went to Taco Bell. A true diamond in the ruff... Just a great place to watch a game, have a beverage and eat amazingly fantastic food ! Talk about don't judge a book by its cover, based on the older looking building and the location at the end of Union St I was completely fooled. J Brian's is the real deal when it comes to legit good food. To date I have had the buffalo wings and the Carolina Gold wings and both were great ! Shockingly the Carolina Gold may be a new favorite. I've also had the cheeseburger club which was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection ! The worst treatment ever in my life. Wings were great and was reason we came. The bar maids dressed like lady's of the night and acted worse. We wer denied a 2nd beverage due to fights breaking out, Excpet the locals/regular customers were being served after the fact. Also witnessed a customer break up 2 fights and was treated horrible as of he had started the fights. I have to assume he was not local either as he was forced out in the rain/snow as we were leaving we overheard the staff talking negative about the man to the locals and when we were outside the same man was making sure someone did not drive home and was helping someone order a ride service as a customer exited and have to assume a local started calling this nice man names for no reason. Shame on the staff for acting this way to me and my wife and even worse to an innocent by stander who probably prevented them from losing their alcohol license. Never in my life have I felt like an outcast and witnessed the business man being treated even worse, I can only say dont go to this place no matter what if you are not from andover Massachusetts as you are not welcome. Staff too busy chatting on phones, with each other and with other customers that were clearly friends for long periods of time without paying attention to anyone waiting to be approached for an order Almost zero parking. Went to this establishment last night after attending a friends wake. Had two beers with my dinner before arriving at J Brian's. As I entered the pub the bouncer at the door told me I could not have a beer and I was cut off. I was not drunk nor obnoxious to this gentleman for lack of a better word. I went and talked to the manager a very nice lady. She then talked to her bouncer. I was served had my two beers and left. Now to the bouncer screw you. You obviously have no clue about what your job is nor do you know how to treat people. The waitresses dont keep tabs properly. Check your tab for errors when you are ready to pay. I got charged for wings I did not order. When confronted Mimi, one of the bartenders, about my tab, i was told that i did order wings. I play on an APA pool league that shoots out of there once or twice a session. I'm a very honest person. But when I insisted Mimi take the chicken wings off my tab, I was told I did order them at 6:31pm. I dont eat before shooting pool on league. It took my whole team to back me up about not ordering any wings. Mimi then told me that I would not be served there, and she didnt care if I was on a pool league or not. My team plays there next week, and I will be talking to the owner/manager before ordering anything. My suggestion to you, do not open a tab and pay as you go. read more
