(Snacked 01/05/19 SA @ 4:30pm): Off to the market for some "bubble" aka boba drinks!
After a delightful meal at Zen Noodle Café, we saved enough room for boba and headed to Feng Chia Market where we saw many drinks leave this business. Oddly enough, we had only one other boba experience which was in Cambodia. Generally speaking, it wasn't as prevalent as we thought it would be in this part of the world, so we jumped on this last opportunity while stil in the Orient! Would there be an ominous reason why it was so hard to find boba drinks throughout Southeast Asia!?
PURCHASE
Matcha Green Tea With Red Bean & Boba Large Size (38.00 HKD/4.85 USD): I was influenced by the "new flavor" promotional poster and loved the idea of red beans because it made it sound almost like another favorite dessert of mine...halo halo! Unfortunately, I found many things wrong with this drink such as the lack of any ice (it was at room temperature), the matcha flavor was very powdery and unnatural, the drink itself was very thin without any body or texture, and the combination of boba (which were chewier than I liked) AND red beans was just too much to handle as the various objects bombarded your mouth. Simply, it wasn't a good idea and drink overall...but of course I drank it all https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=y4ZbxA-HbBpPv8YzKrl5AQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw!
Milk Tea & Boba Large Size (38.00 HKD/4.85 USD): My friend ordered this simple drink which came with ice unlike mine, had the same boba issue, but the flavor was pleasant and didn't taste fake. I preferred hers over mine... https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LxQtAmIFfQG0RVlqpMDfjw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw.
SERVICE
An older female kindly greeted us as we entered and was ready to take our order, but we obviously needed some time to review the menu https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=3TTHZLirJCgt4tmwu2nC4Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Once we decided, we placed our order, paid, and less than five minutes later our drinks were prepared by the lone person behind in the kitchen and were ready. Talk about efficiency!
PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance)
The two main modes of transportation to Lantau Island was either the cable cars or buses. I honestly couldn't recall any cars but saw parking lots where numerous buses parked, so I imagined there was parking for smaller vehicles, too.
ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE
An ordinary storefront that opened into a predominantly grey-colored tile interior, an area with minimal indoor seating (only a few tables and chairs), a medium-length order counter that peered into the kitchen, legible menus posted both above the counter and as a poster at the front, and various condiments, cutlery, etc. placed on the counter. Plenty of natural lighting came in through the large front glass windows while standard electric ceiling light fixtures covered the rest.
ATTIRE
Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
Feng Chia Market disappointed me with their boba drinks and couldn't say I'd try them again; however, their food might be a different story, so I didn't want to completely be negative. Although the prices were high, the service was good to go. I found good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around 76.00 HKD/9.70 USD BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 3.0 STARS read more
