Potstickers
Vincent Q.

Crystal Jade is a Singapore export that serves Shanghainese food primarily with some other Chinese regional dishes. This particular branch is pretty polarising based on the reviews. The low scores typically are from poor service and/or not being as good as the locations in Hong Kong. Food: 4 stars Service: 3 stars Recommendations: potstickers, xiao long bao I travel a lot for work and have eaten at this location at least a dozen times. The fact that I keep returning among the other choices means that I like the food. I agree that the food isn't as good as other locations but not drastically different. I think it's pretty close. Some of the details are definitely off like the ginger provided is not that appealing. It is typically not enough in quantity and comes out wet. The service here isn't good, but I don't expect good service at a restaurant in the airport. My biggest complaint about the service is that when it gets really busy it's hard to get the waiters attention to either order or pay your bill. The food comes out pretty quick and you won't need to worry about missing your flight. This place is always busy so they are going to try to shuffle people in and out pretty quickly. What you will see on almost every table is the 小籠包(xiao long bao). I prefer Din tai feng's version better but some argue that Crystal Jade is equal or better. You will get the thin wrapper with a nice amount of soup. I typically will also order their pot stickers, vegetable dumplings, and the soy noodle with edamame and pickled vegetables. I think all the mentioned dishes all taste good. The soy noodle dish is more of an acquired taste and not everyone will like that. Don't be deterred by some of the negative ratings. This place is worth a visit if you are at the airport and want to eat a quick meal.

La Mian with Sliced Beef Shank
Arvid Y.

I was a bit disappointed by the noodle dish I ordered. It was the La Mian with Sliced Beef Shank. I was expecting a more flavorful broth, but instead it came with a clear and somewhat bland watery broth. It was garnished with scallions, but otherwise no other veggies. The sliced beef shank seemed a bit processed and not fresh. The noodles themselves were okay, but with a flavorless broth it did nothing for me. For $70, I definitely should have gone somewhere else for my last meal in HK.

Very unique siu mai

Before checking in to my flight home, I was able to have one last delicious fancy meal of dim sum. The restaurant is nice and spacious, so I was able to eat in peace and not have to worry about all my carry-ons. Of course, I had to get the chicken feet. They did not disappoint. The feet was soft and flavorful. I also tried the puff pastry and shrimp roll. The shrimp roll was fried to perfection, nice and crispy. Last, I got the siu mai. It was so cool how each siu mai had a different topping: scallop, shrimp, meat, and mushroom. Although unique, they were too dry. Overall, I enjoyed my meal a lot. The atmosphere is very roomy and peaceful, and the food is quite unique and delicious!

Hot & spicy La Mian, xiao long bao, pan fried shrimp dumplings

We were on our way out of the HKG Airport (in the arrivals area), when my husband spotted this restaurant and decided he needed to eat before we head into the city. Crystal Jade is popular in Hong Kong (there's only 1 location in San Francisco, California) so good thing we got to sit down and check this place out! Everyone had their suitcase with them, so we were instructed by the wait staff to just leave it by the hostess counter while we grabbed a table and sat down to order. We ordered: (1) La Mian (hot & spicy) -- my husband wanted to try their spicy noodles, and ordered a big bowl. He devoured the whole thing (aside from giving me a small tasting); said it was pretty flavorful, but not out of this world great (2) Xiao Long Bao -- soup pork dumplings were tasty! I have to say that they almost taste better than Din Tai Fung in California. Skin was thin and each dumpling was filled with lots of soup. We had to order 2 orders of these, since each one only came with four dumplings. They were good! :) (3) Pan-fried shrimp & pork dumplings -- these were delicious, plump and filled with flavorful meat. Dip it in some soy sauce or vinegar and you're set! Our order came out fast, lots of customers, and it's so popular here that 3 of their 5 congee dishes were SOLD OUT already! Boo! :( I really wanted to have their congee, but didn't get to have any here unfortunately. Our flight had landed around 8:10 am in the morning, and by that time -- the congee had already sold out. Insane right?!!

Dan Dan Mian. Meh. 2.5/5, would probably not order again.
Don T.

My friends highly recommended this place but I didn't think it was too amazing. I got the XLB (4/5) and the Dan Dan Mian (2.5/5) and if I came again, I would probably just get the XLB. A very convenient place to grab food though if you're checking in for a flight. Service was prompt, but you really need to flag down the waiters or they ignore you. They ignored the people near me even when they tried to flag them down, probably depends on your luck. But yeah, as mentioned, Dan Dan Mian wasn't really worth it, but the XLB wasn't bad. Overall, not a terrible place but not spectacular. Maybe I'll try something else if I happen to be back in the area again.

Wontons in spicy chili oil

The airport location of Crystal Jade is on par with other locations in Hong Kong and around Asia, so they obviously keep a pretty close watch on their product quality. They usually have plenty of space outside of the peak lunch and dinner hours, they are centrally located outside of security, and there's luggage storage available. This is a pretty reliable place for a quick meal in the airport. Service is fast, food comes our quickly, menu is in multiple languages for ease, and everything is pretty tasty. Soup dumplings, buns, noodles, and desserts are really where they shine. Even just getting a few baskets of soup dumplings makes for a really tasty, comforting meal. Crystal Jade is pretty famous for their soup dumplings, so they are a great place to try them if you want to see what authentic ones taste like.

Popular place for a quickie meal. The usual Shanghainese meal whilst you wait for the arrivals or to grab a meal after an exhaustive flight. Don't expect service with a smile. That's a premium not often found in busy grab and run places.

Green Beans with Pork, Truffle Xiao Long Bao, Egg White and Crab, Chili Shrimp
Melissa V.

Nothing better after an international flight than some Xiao Long Bao! This is located conveniently outside of immigration which made it the perfect dinner spot during my five hour layover. My friend is native to HK so he ended up ordering for us so I apologize in advance if I don't know everything by their exact name but we ended up sharing: regular xlb, truffle xlb, spicy wontons, egg white and crab, shrimp in sweet chili sauce, green beans and minced pork, tea, and one bowl of rice to share. We had SO much food between the two of us and we didn't end up finishing the green beans or the crab (the food didn't come out all at once). With all of that being said, I thought the food was really tasty! My favorite dish was definitely the truffle xlb as it had a really nice earthy aroma. Fair warning the spicy wontons are not like Din Tai Fung's spicy wontons as this chili sauce is actually spicy and different from mala. Everything gave me the energy that had been sucked out of my flight from SFO. I didn't catch the bill so I'm not sure how this fared amongst other airport meals but if you have some time before your flight, I'd highly recommend coming here than saving your stomach for airplane foods!

Less than mediocre quality
Nan C.

Food quality: 5/10 Service: 2/10 Xiao Ling Bao was slightly less than mediocre. Steamed vegetable bun was super dry. La Mian dry stir fry was overly oily. Tofu skin, vegetable with edamame was bland. The restaurant in the airport should be shamed to served this type of quality to customers. Most bothering to me is the service. The aunties looks pissed off when you seek them for service. The servers slaps the dishes on your table.

Jellied pork was decent?

I believe the place might be good, but my experience wasn't. We arrived at 11:30 and ordered. The noodle soup was mostly soggy noodles (bloated is the word that comes to mind) and almost no soup. It was the same as if you scrape the bottom of the pot before it goes to the sink. The dumplings were cold and hard. The soup inside them wasn't bad and they were lukewarm at least. The jellied pork was tasty and I recommend the appetizer - if you like jellied pork. It was comical as we left there was a lady already mopping up around us and directed us to take an alternate path out so we wouldn't step on her mopped area. Unfortunately the path she put is on made us walk through a path three times longer that had just been wet mopped by her coworker. A near slip and I was wondering what liability laws were in Hong Kong. Perhaps management left and workers were free to cut corners near close? I don't know. I might try them again midday, but never within an hour of close again. It's one of those places where some of the workers are mentally on the way home well before the doors close.

Conveniently located in the HK airport, one of the best Chinese restaurant chain. This is on the arrival floor, after you go through customs. There are a variety of dishes to choose from on the menu. Give this place a try if you are hungry for Chinese food.

Vince H.

I was my first meal after landing in Hong Kong after a long vocation in Europe and the food I craved the most of course was Chinese food and I was really glad that Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao was just around the corner. I have also loved Xiao Long Bao because of the thin wrapping and the hot steaming broth inside, just the thought of it made my mouth watery already. As this is located inside the airport, the restaurant is sort of small and kind of fast-food like. However, I suppose travelers come and go here so normally they do not have time to really sit and enjoy but rather looking for a quick meal. With that, I ordered beef noodles and of course my favorite xiao long bau. The food did not take long to be done, maybe around 10 to 15 minutes, the first thing I put in my mouth of course was the Shanghainese dumplings. They were pretty much like the one they serve in Ding Tai Fung so I was really pleased. For those who did not try that dumpling before, make sure you lift the dumpling carefully (time to challenge your chopsticks skills) and dip a bit of sauce without breaking. Then bite a small piece so that you can let the steam come out; and drink the soup out before eating it unless you may risk burning your tongue. As for the beef noodles, unfortunately the broth was too oily for me or maybe the dumplings were too filling; I could not finish the entire bowl. The beef was all right but compared to Xiao Long Bau. The latter definitely was much better than the noodles. Regardless I am still very glad that they have one of its branch here at the airport as it gives travelers all around the world the taste of Chinese cuisine the minute they land.

Xiao Long Bao: $HKD 39.00

For an airport option Crystal Jade is a more than fair offering for any and all things ranging from dim sum to noodle dishes and desserts. Having said that; when you consider that dim sum mecca is only a short 25 minute train ride away, you've really got to judge Crystal Jade against the broader competition. It doesn't, and can't be expected to, stack up. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Again, given you're in an airport Crystal Jade might as well be your saving grace. There is abundant seating, relatively fast service, and friendly folks who speak one of many languages. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Not all that hungry having eaten breakfast on an inbound flight, I opted for the XLB (4 pieces), and the Pork Buns (3 pieces). They ran me roughly $5.00 USD for each dish, which was nothing short of a bargain given this was a major international airport in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Good? Yes. Great? No. The XLB and pork buns were without question handmade, but I've been spoiled for too long by Din Tai Fung. These pieces simply lacked the puffy thick texture that so easily cases the soup interior; and instead they fell apart more or less the second I picked them up. On one occasion the pork interior slipped out of the casing, and revealed a very slimy looking little pink ball of pork that had me raising an eyebrow. The pork buns were good, but lacked any sort of real inherent flavor. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Crystal Jade is a good airport option, but if you've got the time go into Hong Kong for proper XLB. No Star Granted. a

I've been fortunate and night to have to travel to HK for work occasionally and have never been able to make it to the Michelin started original location in central and was happy to find it at the international departure gate. It is all the way on the end where the "mall" and other food court is so be prepared to walk if you gate isn't close. If there is a long line you can use ordering kiosks throughout the food court to make your order. Roasted Goose: Roasted on site, comes on a huge bed if jasmine rice and some greens on the side, the rice absorbs some of the drippings and gets the roast goose flavor. Very good toasted goose though not at the same high level as Yat Lok. This came out very quickly, in less than 5 minutes. Dimsum: I like the bamboo trays the dimsum came in, each of them had a cool metal plaque on it I haven't seen before. The taste was fantastic and it's the first time my family got to try dimsum in Hong Kong, though it is as at the airport it was still higher level than most of the dimsum we get back home.

Wonton noodles have always been one of their best options. It's been a morning / lunch staple and a sure thing for first timers. They also have beef brisket, Where they suffer a bit is with the Chinese BBQ (siu mei), in which it's lacking severely, which doesn't fare well given its the priciest item. Won ton noodle soup is pretty bog-standard, which to be fair in Hong Kong means it's actually pretty decent. Char siu won't win any awards, with the slices at this location seemingly extra small, but again it's more than acceptable enough for an airport. And the roast goose, while nice enough, was more bones and skin than anything else. Made me wonder just how small the goose was! Still, of all the fast casual Chinese restaurants inside Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport, I find I come here the most. The fast service and the quality are just enough to keep me coming back, especially when time is tight.

Our food also came at a very quickly. We had the bbq pork steamed rice noodles, egg tarts, fried turnip cakes, and the sticky rice in lotus leaf with abalone. Subpar quality overall; the bbq pork steamed rice was a bit too watery and the fried turnip cakes had very mushy-like texture. The lotus leaf wrap was average--I think the only good thing going for it was the abalone, but was totally not worth it. They also forgot out pork buns, which was alright, since I was on a time crunch. To say that I've had some bad dim sum is an understatement. Maxim's Jade Garden wasn't terrible, but not as great as many people make this place out to be. Sure, you can see famous people. And you can people watch, too, but that's weird.
