I've eaten here a few times with my parents and I've always had high regard for this place for being a "high-tea" dim sum place--high-tea, as in dim sum on the second floor, overlooking the ground floor of Asia's most bustling airport. But, of course, you don't think much of food when you're a kid. My friend and I came here on a rush for breakfast about 1.5 hours before my flight, but we wanted something nice as our last meal together. Although there was a queue, it went by surprisingly quick. Our food also came at a very quickly. We had the bbq pork steamed rice noodles, egg tarts, fried turnip cakes, and the sticky rice in lotus leaf with abalone. Subpar quality overall; the bbq pork steamed rice was a bit too watery and the fried turnip cakes had very mushy-like texture. The lotus leaf wrap was average--I think the only good thing going for it was the abalone, but was totally not worth it. They also forgot out pork buns, which was alright, since I was on a time crunch. To say that I've had some bad dim sum is an understatement. Maxim's Jade Garden wasn't terrible, but not as great as many people make this place out to be. Sure, you can see famous people. And you can people watch, too, but that's weird. It's overpriced dim-sum and if you have a flight that's not in the morning and you're craving dim sim, I would just suggest getting your dim sum fix while you're still in Hong Kong. read more

This may not be the best place for dim sum, but when you're at the airport, it's a damn good option. It's on the 2nd floor so you're isolated from the chaos of the check-in area. You order off a menu (instead of carts) so your food is guaranteed to come out a little fresher. The service is very attentive and professional. The food is quite good (order the chung fun). The atmosphere is amazing considering you're in the middle of one of the busiest airports in the world. If you have some time to kill at HKG, I highly recommend a bite to eat here. read more

One of our go-to places for food at the airport. I always feel the need to have one last dim sum meal before leaving Hong Kong, so Maxim's fits the spot. Eating area is spacious with plenty of room for suitcases, so that's convenient when it's not time to check-in yet. Although the menu is sort of large, dim sum items seem limited. Eating at HKIA Now that Yelp has hit Hong Kong, my fellow Yelpers will see that Hong Kong International Airport is my home away from home. I've flown through HKIA enough times that I know my way around without having to look at a directory or ask for directions. I've also eaten my around the facility, this last time, being at Maxim's Jade Garden. First - it's located at the airport so don't throw a fit because of the prices. it's like the prices you'll see at any tourist destination. If you want to pay less, head back into town or cross the border into Shenzhen, Mainland China. It's Dim Sum made to order. No carts or buffet line. Just order as much or as little as you want and enjoy. Decent views of the airport if you like people watching but as you may have guessed, a little loud. it's an open restaurant so no walls to buffer the noise of all the people - so intimate conversation can be a little challenging. Service was great as there's a lot of staff around. It's not that they were or weren't friendly but they were very attentive and efficient. Must be all the practice of having flyers rushing to eat and hop on their flight. I like Maxim's but definitely wouldn't eat there all the time when there are other lesser expensive restaurants just a short Express Train ride away in the city. read more

In the Hong Kong international airport early for a flight. The breakfast options are aplenty. However, many of the others had long lines and I wasn't keen on wasting my time queuing so headed to the more upmarket and pricey Maxim's for some high-end dim sum. When you order dim sum off a menu instead of hailing a cart, the expectation is that the dishes are going to be freshly made. That means that some strategy is going to be needed. If you are not going to wait hungry, you need to order something that will come out fast, and others that will take time to make. So, in the first category is one of the steamed or braised dishes that should have already spent long hours being ready. I chose the braised chicken feet in abalone sauce. This arrived almost immediately and I started tucking in. Perfectly braised, soft enough and yet left enough of a bite. The abalone sauce was delicious and not too salty. So enough, the barbecue pork in puff pastry arrived. This has to be baked early, and they can leave it in a warm oven and it may take 5 minutes in a hot oven to heat up. Again, delicious and arrived steaming hot. Finally, I ordered the steamed rice rolls with prawns and chives. This can take up to half an hour to arrive if it is made fresh. The rice rolls have to be made. Then they are stuffed, and steamed again. As usual, they arrived at the table steaming hot with a little carafe of warm flavored soya sauce. Here's the final part of my meal choices. Instead of using the sauce that came with the dish, I poured the yummy abalone sauce from the braised chicken feet onto the steamed rice rolls. The combination was spectacular!! Service was attentive and courteous. Probably as the crowds hadn't started coming in yet. Prices were quite a bit higher than similar quality in town, which was to be expected due to the high rents in the airport. So, for an airport dim sum restaurant, a solid 5 stars. read more

Probably one of the more expensive meals that I had in Hong Kong, consider the portion and type of food offering. Made sense as it's located right inside the airport. Quality wasn't too bad and the food was definitely fresh, but I would've expected a bit more selection and and service given the price point. When Princess Carewee and I saw the cutest, most mouthwatering pictures of the dimsum on the menu, we rushed inside to Maxim's Jade Garden for her final meal in Hong Kong with high hopes. And then the food came. The dissimilarity between the menu picture and the actual dimsum is equal to the dissimilarity between reality and a Tinder profile pic. Damn it, Maxim. Why did we swipe right? Apparently, Maxim's ethics on consumer fraud is rather loose, or arguably nonexistent. In addition to those Tinder dimsum pics on the menu, the names of their dimsum also serves beguile those who are dumb enough to trust airport food (me and Princess Carewee). The Signature LOBSTER Dumpling, which cost a whooping $68 HKD each, had only a very small trace of lobster in it. Technically speaking, the lobster was present, but it definitely won't be enough for me to be the lobster's alibi if it ever broke the law. Well whatever, as long as the food tasted good, right? The food tasted like nothing. Kinda like Aquafina. We had to drown our ugly looking dumplings in chili oil to give our taste buds some action. If the NBA season ended today, the MVP award wouldn't go to Curry or Harden. It would go to the chili oil in a unanimous decision. "Chili Oil, you da real MVP." It was an incredibly disappointing experience. The whole meal (4 dishes) drained us for $316.80 HKD. This was the worst money I've spent on this trip, narrowly surpassing the $150 HKD I threw away at NAMECO Arcade. If you're hungry at the airport, you'll be better off with Mickey D's. I personally find this restaurant food to be quite mediocre. It is obvious that this restaurant main selling point is not on the food itself, I find that this restaurant main selling point is on the atmosphere as well as the location. The whole design of the place looks quite elegant. Food is also presented in a quite elegant way. But that's the thing though, it stops there. There is a lot of small improvement that can be made to instantly enhance the whole experience with food. As per my menu, I find that the goose is quite oily. I mean fatty is one thing but oily is quite another. The bunny that I've ordered is exactly what I've ordered. I would be nice if I could get some sort of surprises in the middle of it. Like... Strawberry jam in the middle or melted chocolate oozing out from it. All in all, it's a place that you expect to pay more for the atmosphere than the quality of the food itself. I mean... Very busy place, the hostess did not speak English and shoved a piece of paper in my hand and showed me the walkway. The waitress screamed at me to follow her in Chinese, no big deal that's the way things go sometimes in China. But two waitresses that came over to take our order did not speak English at all and left us. It took us a long time to get our order taken. We had the crispy suckling pig , pork dumplings, and meat pastries. We were also informed we could not have any water but could purchase bottled water. Maxim's Jade Garden can easily be seen while looking up from the main level of HKG's T1. You don't have to pass thru security in order to access the restaurant, but you will have to go up a level to reach the restaurant entrance. My family and I came here for dim sum, and weren't expecting too much out of here since it's in an airport. There weren't too many choices here, but we picked out the staples such as siu mai, beef balls, shrimp dumplings, etc. The only disappointment IMO was the siu mai (which tasted nothing like siu mai), while everything else was actually of decent standard. Again, for airport quality, don't expect much. Also expect higher prices than usual. Service was okay, but they will rush you out once you finish your meal. It's a very popular place, but there's not a lot of tables for the demand it gets. Food tastes good and at par with authentic Cantonese food standard. Soup was a little less amazing and tastes similar to those instant Knorr Chinese soup packs where you add water, boil it, add the soup powder then 1-2 eggs. Decent breakfast spot in the airport that my mom's friend took us to right before our flight. It's kind of amazing there's this gigantic restaurant right in the airport before entering into the departure gates. This place is seriusly massive, it must take like 3 minutes just to talk from one end to the other. The pork belly was pretty tasty, but a bit overcooked to me. The real star of the show was the giant hargow, which was basically like 5 of the regular sized ones combined into one. I wish I took a picture but I was too much in shock as to the size of the thing (and of course I demolished that thing, real quick). It was probably the size of my fist and delicious. The service was pretty slow though, so if you're in a rush, definitely don't sit down here for a meal. I'm a local Hong Konger. Just visited them a few days ago w/ my kid and parents. My kid took one of their dim sum ordering sheets and wanted to make a plane with it. This rude woman server came and took the sheets away saying, "These cost $0.50 each." I have never ever been told something like this as a customer. And the food per my standard isn't any special at all. And before this, I've been to this restaurant at late night after a flight, and the place was just filthy(dirty). I know Hong Kong has had a hard time hiring enough people to fill these jobs, because there's just too many tourists and people eating out. And this problem of low quality service really started even before 1997 w/ this influx of mainlander workers. But we really shouldn't live with something like this. We want to have ice water for our two kids。She told us no free water available. When we took our own bottled water out, she rolled her eyes and scolded us for it. At that moment I wish we just stood up and left. Unfortunately we were too tired to leave. Later found out they forced us to pay for salted peanuts which we did not order.
