Our hotel was on the same street and we were walking down the sidewalk to find a nearby McDonald's. As travelers we were not familiar with the area. But after passing by, I recognized the name of the restaurant as I did a brief research on a WHAT TO DO IN HONG KONG LIST. I immediately told the person I was with to lets give it a try. It was a small charming restaurant and in the culture, you share a table with strangers if it starts to pack in. We ordered the soy sauce goose, chicken over rice noodles, ham with veggies and shark fin soup. All was delicious and our favorite on that first sitting was the goose. A few days after hearing about the restaurant again, we found out that they were known for their oyster omlette, so this time we ordered it to go with the Soy Sauce Goose. The oyster omlette was also delicious. I have to say that my experience for this kind of Chinese food was great. It's not as greasy as Chinese food in USA. Sorry to say but that is how I described it. Maybe it might be just the Chinese food where I come from in USA. Also the workers here are extremely nice. Very good people and helpful.

The only difference is that having walked by this restaurant maybe 500 times, today we went in for dinner. Come to find out my husband had been holding out on me and indicated that he heard about this restaurant on a food channel and saw it on TV. So with that and looking past the Michelin nods in 2012 and 2013 it received, we felt bad that we had not taken the time to simply eat a meal here prior to now. It appears that Chan Kan Kee Chiu occupies two store fronts that are not connected (maybe two buildings and two landlords?) and you see staff hustling food back and forth. Regardless, both store fronts are small and diner space is tight. We enjoyed three dishes. An egg omelet of oysters (which they are known for), a beef and bean dish and a veggie dish. I took photos of each for my Yelp reveiw, but do not know the exact name. All were spectacular. When they say veggie..they mean a cornucopia of many veggies. The beef and bean dish was so ingredibly flavorful that I could not put my chopsticks down. But let me just saw the oyster omelet is worth the hype. Served with an oily, kind of salty liquid for a sauce, this thing was large and jammed full of small oysters! I mean jammed full! So incredibly unique and worth another visit for me to consume again. However, my dad's fish, due to its fishy nature, made his broth slightly fishier and more difficult to stomach. My mom ordered noodles with fish belly - there were massive pieces of fish belly in her bowl, and was wonderfully fatty! Finally, my sister ordered the noodle with grilled salmon fillet. We did not know it was a 2 star Michelin restaurant, and I was a bit apprehensive at the beginning, because we did not want to spend too much money on food on this trip. Upon our request, we were seated right in front of the Harbour view and were able to see the light show that start around 8pm. The most beautiful view of HK at night! We opted not to order the duck, which needs to be ordered 24 hour in advance and although I am sure quite delicious is quite pricy (HK$1,438+10%). Reservation in this place is a must! Highlights were the Wok-fried Wagyu with Green Peppers, Mushrooms and Garlic, Wok-seared Chicken Fillet with Lemon Sauce The server was so kind as to give us half servings so we could "sample" some of the more expensive items, add fried rice for substitution with the meat dishes and free desert. This flexibility in providing half portion and substitution is something i've rarely experience in a Michelin restaurant. Overall, we payed $US240 (1,900 Hong Kong Dollar) which includes the 10% service charge for two people for a michelin 2 star restaurant for an unforgettable meal! Back to Crystal Jade, here are my must-orders: - Xiao Long Bao (4 pcs per order) 小籠包 - Dan Dan Mian 擔擔麵 - Gluten with beans and black fungus - Pork wontons in chili vinaigrette 紅油抄手 - La Mian with Deep Fried Pork Cutlets - Hot/cold soy milk 熱/冷 豆漿 I love the juiciness of the XLB at Crystal Jade, the pork filling was wrapped in a delicate dumpling skin that I found more chewy than the DTF one. I do wish there was an option to add some chicken or pork to the dish. The cold soy milk comes in perfectly to counter-act the spicy DDM noodles. The fried pork cutlets surprised me. A lot of the dishes here at heavy on the carbs, and for someone who's on the lookout for protein, I decided to test my luck with this. The pork cutlets were deep fried with a marinade of curry and some paprika for color! The pairing with the La Mian was delicious with a nice contrasting light broth.
