My boyfriend, best friend, and I came to Hong Kong for a trip and we absolutely did not plan to eat here at all. However, one of my best friend's close family friends took us here our first night in Hong Kong and boy were we surprised. We didn't realize that this establishment was a 2-star Michelin restaurant until we got there! That's not the best part. The best part was that we got to choose our own seafood. Off to the side, they have a few tanks filled with live shellfish that you are able to choose from. Anything from crabs, lobster, shrimps, etc! Of course we didn't do the choosing -- the host did! We ended up with some deep fried salt & pepper tofu, deep fried scallop fritters, geoduck sashimi, soy sauce prawns, deep fried abalone, razor clams with black bean sauce, Chinese broccoli, and salt/pepper/garlic mantis prawns. Everything was simply delicious because everything was super fresh! My favorite was the geoduck sashimi, soy sauce prawns, and the mantis prawns. I looooooooooove geoduck, or as other people call it, giant clam. It has such a nice, clean, and sweet taste to it! I always eat it when I get the chance! The soy sauce prawns and mantis prawns just had so much flavor to them .. thanks to the salt of course! I kept licking my fingers afterwards because the flavor was just too yummy! Apparently their deep fried abalone was what got them their 2 Michelin star status. Normally, abalone is a pain to cook from what my mom told me. Abalone itself has no flavor so you have to braise it with sauce in order to get any flavor from it. Therefore, traditionally, the abalone dishes are all braised and drenched with sauce. This was the first time that I had it deep fried. They use a specific batter for it as well -- I forgot what kind of batter though ... short memory. The abalone itself was reallllly tender. It was probably the most tender abalone I've ever had. It was not tough to chew at all! As for the taste .. eh, I think I prefer something else haha. I never liked abalone that much to begin with so I'm probably a little biased. The service was really good throughout the meal. They would refill the tea once it was empty. They would change our plates if our plates had a lot of shells on it. They even provided us dessert!! They gave us a variety of custard/pudding cubes! The cost? Around $4,200 HKD. Was the meal worth the dollar amount? To me? Probably not. That's a little too high for comfort. There are probably other alternatives. They are probably extra expensive due to their Michelin star rating. However, if it's the abalone that got them that and I don't care too much for abalone, then I can abort mission next time!!

In Apr 2016, my best friend and I and her boyfriend had came to HK for a visit after a week in Korea. My mom had been planning with her old friend of 30+ to prob 40+ years to take us to Sai Kung for a seafood dinner. Since its been 10 years i've been to HK, i had forgotten how crappy of a drive it was to get to Sai Kung. I knew it was fairly inaccessible unless by private vehicle or small bus. One major thing i had forgotten was how much seafood cost in HK (more about this later) When we had arrived, the restaurant and the area had a small parking lot which was full by the time we got there. We had reservations and the restaurant took care of getting the cars parked. When we had arrived, i had not recognized the area as it was a little bit away from the actual known area of Sai Kung, with the arch way, market, etc. When we were waiting for my friends, we had looked at the menu (or lack of) and noticed this restaurant was a ONE MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANT AND IT WAS RECENTLY AWARDED IT either last year or this year ! holy crap $_$ ! When my friends arrived, we were taken around the side of the restaurant to their many tanks of fresh live seafood for us to pick. I LOVE how you get to go pick your own seafood but not being the person to pay and essentially host and what not, even when they asked what i wanted, i kinda pushed them off and let them do the ordering xD What we ended up getting was their popular fried salt & pepper tofu, popular fried scallop fritters, geoduck sashimi, soy sauce large prawns, award winning fried fresh abalone, black bean razor clams, mantis prawn (not sure style, maybe similar to bei fung tong? as it had salt pepper fried garlic chili). First thing first. EVERYTHING IS FRESH. as noted before. FRESH AND LIVE ! Naturally sweet and tender Salt & pepper tofu was the best ive ever had. Fried logs of tofu but without a thick batter and lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. As noted by the waiter, fried scallop fritters (limited amount per day apparently), were decent. Fresh and nicely fried. Crispy outside with much chopped scallops inside. Not overcooked so scallop was nice and tender, and not chewy. Geoduck Sashimi ! GEODUCK ! for those who dont know what a geoduck is, its essentially a large clam with a long long siphon that can be up to a few feet when relaxed. (google at your own risk - dont do it at work LOL) Super fresh ! Sweet slices of flesh ! Has a nice crisp texture as what fresh raw geoduck has. In the states, they usually would take the body (in the shell) and make a congee or soup, and sashimi the siphon. Soy sauce large prawns - super delicious. fresh large prawns. not overly salty from too much soy sauce. perfectly cooked. meat was nice and tender. Amazing for something so simple. But its always the simple things that are hard to master and do well right? :P Mantis Prawns - lightly fried with salt pepper and GARLIC . love garlic. mantis prawns are something fairly rare to see in the states. Yeah you can get them but so expensive ! ive been waiting years to have this again! oh man it was yummy ! if you think a large shrimp is big, you've never seen a mantis prawn. as the name states, it does have mantis like claws but unlike a shrimp that is short to curl into a ball, this is MUCH longer in size Fried fresh abalone - according to the waiter, this is the item that got them their one Michelin star ! As this is fresh abalone, not much prep is needed in comparison to dried abalone (which is MUCH MUCH more expensive and painful to prep - rehydrating, cleaning, braising, making a stock to make a sauce, etc). When i first heard fried abalone, i was like WAH SO WASTED ! but boy was i surprised, and what a way to prepare. Like their tofu, the batter is very light. And seasoned well. Shape of the abalone is very much retained. A normal knife cuts through like butter. My god was it tender. Bravo and congrats to this restaurant for this dish. Fresh clean taste as all other fresh seafood. mmMMmm Razor clams in black bean sauce - surprisingly the plating of this dish was underwhelming in comparison to the other dishes. Very sloppy. As if they took the meat from the razor clams, cooked it, then plopped it back in the middle of nicely laid shells. Flavor was very nice as usual. Dessert was provided of 3 different flavors of chinese style custard cubes. Forgot what they are but yummy at least XD Service was amazing throughout the time we were there. Had a "VIP" room as well with another table that didnt arrive till much later in our meal. Very attentive service. Total cost for this meal was $4,200 HKD which translates to over $500 USD. As mentioned in the beginning of this post, i have not been to HK in 10 years. I had forgotten the cost of seafood here. Apparently it was in the 3s when i last came here according to my aunt. Worth this price? maybe not. Experience? pretty good. Another thousand for michelin star experience? eh not bad. Lol

This place is not better than other but really expensive. We are use to go in fancy place but the price don't correspond with the quality. Also the place is not so clean I can jus say better to forgot this place is a trap for tourist as all is not clear with price if you don't speak Chinese

Food (**** out of *****); As long as their head chef is in, the place is legit and will serve up…read moresome of the best seafood equal in cooking skill to the big restaurants. If you're going on a holiday or Sunday, be sure to ask if their head chef is in before you decide if you want to go there or not. I've been there many times and their head chef has never disappointed me. When in Sai Kung, I advise you to skip the restaurants that the touts will bring you to because those restaurants are much more expensive than but not better than this little mom and pop restaurant. Also, skip the big tourist trap restaurants on the main drag for the same reason. The owner "Michael" also owns a live seafood stand in the wet market behind the restaurant. Ask the owner to show you which seafood stand this is. Then, go and pick out and pay for the live seafood that you want them to cook for you. Take this seafood back to the restaurant and they will cook it for you for a small fee, This fee varies, but it is usually the greater of 200HKD per person or 100% of the price of the seafood. Many times, it is much less than this. I don't know how he figures how much to charge me as my Chinese speaking ability is crap, but he's always been fair and honest with me. This is a stupendous bargain, because I have a relative in the food industry and he informs me that most restaurants charge 200% of the price of the groceries as the profit margin to charge you. On this trip, I had the live abalone, living scallops, pissing shrimp (mantis shrimp), fresh razor clams, and chicken. All of the seafood has that fresh, sweet, sea taste that only living seafood has. None of it tasted "fishy". BTW, you have to tell them how you want it cooked, so if you're not a major foodie, bring a friend who is or it will be cooked wrong, through no fault of the restaurant's. I had the razor clam stir fried with hot peppers and black bean. It was not too spicy as to overpower the natural flavor of the razor clams. There was only a tiny bit of sand in it. On a previous visit, I had the razor clams steamed with garlic, ginger, onions, scallions, and wine. There was zero sand in it on my previous visit. I like it steamed more than the stir fry method. On this visit, I had the live scallops steamed with garlic, onions, scallions, ginger and wine. It was divine. The abalone was steamed with special sauce. Both the abalone and scallops were not rubbery. If you overcook these shellfish, it will be rubbery and it is very easy to overcook. The chef here is very skillful. The pissing shrimp (mantis shrimp) were stir fried in cheese crust. It was fragrant and slightly pungent from the cheese. All the seafood was excellent. The ginger chicken was average. I don't know what I was thinking, ordering a chicken in a seafood restaurant. Duh. Service (***** out of *****); Unlike most Cantonese restaurants, the waiters here will check up on you to see how you are doing, they'll change out your dirty plates, and the manager will also check up on you. Atmosphere (** out of *****); A typical mom and pop mini-restaurant. They have some photos of celebrities who've dined there before proudly displayed on the walls, but they have no decor and the front door is often open when the weather is nice outside, so you might have to fend off an occasional fly or mosquito. I did not see any flies at all on this trip. Conclusion (***** out of *****); The tally is 4 stars, but I gave them an extra star for value. They have no English menu, but it is not really necessary. All you have to do is point at the seafood that you want and then tell them, "tsing" (steamed), "chow tseow yeem" (stir fried with salt and pepper), "hu dow see tsew" (black beans and pepper), "cheese" (with cheese), or "chow" (stir fried). This is a hidden gem on the side streets frequented by locals, away from the tourist traps. For the best seafood in Hong Kong at a very reasonable price, go directly to New Tak Kee Seafood Restaurant. P.S. some unscrupulous seafood, mushroom, beef, and dairy vendors sell radioactive stuff from Fukushima and the surrounding regions in Japan. This is a big problem in Hong Kong because almost all food is imported into Hong Kong. My crazy S.O. actually tested all the seafood here and it is all within safety limits.

There isn't a pretty view of the sea. Instead, you will walk up two flights of very narrow stairs to a pleasant dining area and excellent service. The walls are decorated with their Michelin one star awards over the years, which is an accomplishment. My wife and I came for lunch. The set price lunches have a lot of food, but cost just under $3000 for two. I didn't need a banquet. So, I skipped that. Instead, we shared fried tofu as an appetizer. It was hot, creamy and light. Definitely the right choice. Then we shared grouper prepared two ways as the second course. A wise decision. It was delicious, had contrast, and emphasized the fresh fish flavor. That cost $880, but well worth it. Much better than the seafood places nearby.

I'm guessing because we're paying for the Michelin Star, and the cleaner, inside, tableclothed setting. I can attest they also have clean washrooms! I have to dock a star though because of all the nickel and diming they do even after charging more for their dishes (e.g. higher tea charge at HKD $18/pp but at least they exempted my toddler, another HKD $10 for providing 2 wet naps, for market priced dishes they charge not by dish for prep but by number of people at the table, etc). The server also gave my mom some attitude when she asked to see the Mantis Shrimp we ordered live before cooking (which is usual for Chinese restaurants to check the freshness and size), and said bluntly that they're already cooking it. We came to try how they do their Mantis Shrimp so that was the star of our lunch. We had it prepped fried with garlic, pepper, salt. My hubby liked the natural sweetness in the meat. I found it just OK. We ordered the Fried Tofu with Chili and Garlic that others seem to enjoy, again hubby liked it, I found it OK. It came on a pile of orange rice crisps that had no flavor and added nothing to the dish. Our last dish was the Braised Pork Belly with Pickled Vegetables which was pretty good with ample meat that was very filling. My favorite of the 3 dishes. For a restaurant located on Sai Kung's Seafood Street, its also interesting that they're famous for their Crispy Skin Chicken, which you have to reserve in advance or you're out of luck if you try to order it there. We did not reserve ahead... :/ When looking for the restaurant, note that they are on a street not overlooking the waters and have no fishtank display outside to show you their fresh produce like their neighbors. So keep an eye out for their signage. Their dining area is up a flight of narrow stairs but I think they might have a table or 2 on the street level though I didn't get to see since they directed us upstairs though an outside entrance. Service wise, at least they carried our stroller up for us.
