Love Hung Kee. I know that the more famous, Michelin Starred Loaf On is right around the corner but all of these places near the pier are selling insanely high quality seafood. A can't miss experience when in HK. The ambiance and service are what they are. You don't come here expecting spotless white table clothes and having your water filled up every time you turn around. You come for the quality of the seafood. When in Asia, when in doubt, you can't go wrong with seafood. It is literally swimming right in front of you where you can pick which one you want to eat. Doesn't get fresher than that in any other Western country. The stars of the show for me are the lobster, razor clams, and the mantis prawn. Good lord that lobster is good. While it's a common dish at most Chinese, banquet style restaurants, this one is particularly excellent from the cook on the lobster, the sauce to the noodles. Noodles have bite and some chew rather than being mushy. The lobster is cooked to perfection, soft and decadent. You probably can't go wrong with any of the seafood spots in Sai Kung but if you want to be sure, come here. Great outdoor seating with a pleasant view while you eat fresh seafood right out of the water. The big fish tanks and many different types of seafood swimming in their small caged tanks will make any seafood lover crave. Lunch time gets very empty and it's the way I like it. Food comes faster and service is more attentive. Ordered the lobster with noodles, razor clams, prawns, and squid in black bean sauce. The highlight of the meal was the lobster with noodles. Noodles was a little bit cheesy and creamy but not too overly drowned in sauce, while the lobster shined its fresh red shell with succulent white meat. The lobster is already cut and diced up. Usually I'm always cautious when eating lobster or any shell fish that is already cut. The small pieces of shell when chewed in your mouth can really do some damage and chipping to your teeth! I was very careful when eating, but I'm glad there were no loose shells that would chip my teeth, saving me a trip to the dentist. Thus the dish was clean and cooked very well and to perfection! Service was very attentive and most importantly the seafood was really fresh!

1 time here, Seafood look very good. What come out is a whole different ball game. All seafoods cook is not wash. Ginger crab still have lots of mud, 4 abalones come in a huge plate, and is cook with the shell and is not clean and very slammy, as well as all the snails. It disgusting. we barely eat our foods. We have high hope for these seafood, but very disappointed with the taste and the fact that they didn't wash any of the seafood before they cook. As for service; they need to hire waitress/waiter who can give recommendations. Not some snobby waitress who give us a rude comments. Will not recommend this place.

There isn't a pretty view of the sea. Instead, you will walk up two flights of very narrow stairs to a pleasant dining area and excellent service. The walls are decorated with their Michelin one star awards over the years, which is an accomplishment. My wife and I came for lunch. The set price lunches have a lot of food, but cost just under $3000 for two. I didn't need a banquet. So, I skipped that. Instead, we shared fried tofu as an appetizer. It was hot, creamy and light. Definitely the right choice. Then we shared grouper prepared two ways as the second course. A wise decision. It was delicious, had contrast, and emphasized the fresh fish flavor. That cost $880, but well worth it. Much better than the seafood places nearby.

I'm guessing because we're paying for the Michelin Star, and the cleaner, inside, tableclothed setting. I can attest they also have clean washrooms! I have to dock a star though because of all the nickel and diming they do even after charging more for their dishes (e.g. higher tea charge at HKD $18/pp but at least they exempted my toddler, another HKD $10 for providing 2 wet naps, for market priced dishes they charge not by dish for prep but by number of people at the table, etc). The server also gave my mom some attitude when she asked to see the Mantis Shrimp we ordered live before cooking (which is usual for Chinese restaurants to check the freshness and size), and said bluntly that they're already cooking it. We came to try how they do their Mantis Shrimp so that was the star of our lunch. We had it prepped fried with garlic, pepper, salt. My hubby liked the natural sweetness in the meat. I found it just OK. We ordered the Fried Tofu with Chili and Garlic that others seem to enjoy, again hubby liked it, I found it OK. It came on a pile of orange rice crisps that had no flavor and added nothing to the dish. Our last dish was the Braised Pork Belly with Pickled Vegetables which was pretty good with ample meat that was very filling. My favorite of the 3 dishes. For a restaurant located on Sai Kung's Seafood Street, its also interesting that they're famous for their Crispy Skin Chicken, which you have to reserve in advance or you're out of luck if you try to order it there. We did not reserve ahead... :/ When looking for the restaurant, note that they are on a street not overlooking the waters and have no fishtank display outside to show you their fresh produce like their neighbors. So keep an eye out for their signage. Their dining area is up a flight of narrow stairs but I think they might have a table or 2 on the street level though I didn't get to see since they directed us upstairs though an outside entrance. Service wise, at least they carried our stroller up for us.

If you're going on a holiday or Sunday, be sure to ask if their head chef is in before you decide if you want to go there or not. I've been there many times and their head chef has never disappointed me. When in Sai Kung, I advise you to skip the restaurants that the touts will bring you to because those restaurants are much more expensive than but not better than this little mom and pop restaurant. Also, skip the big tourist trap restaurants on the main drag for the same reason. The owner "Michael" also owns a live seafood stand in the wet market behind the restaurant. Ask the owner to show you which seafood stand this is. Then, go and pick out and pay for the live seafood that you want them to cook for you. Take this seafood back to the restaurant and they will cook it for you for a small fee, This fee varies, but it is usually the greater of 200HKD per person or 100% of the price of the seafood. Many times, it is much less than this. I don't know how he figures how much to charge me as my Chinese speaking ability is crap, but he's always been fair and honest with me. This is a stupendous bargain, because I have a relative in the food industry and he informs me that most restaurants charge 200% of the price of the groceries as the profit margin to charge you. On this trip, I had the live abalone, living scallops, pissing shrimp (mantis shrimp), fresh razor clams, and chicken. All of the seafood has that fresh, sweet, sea taste that only living seafood has. None of it tasted "fishy". BTW, you have to tell them how you want it cooked, so if you're not a major foodie, bring a friend who is or it will be cooked wrong, through no fault of the restaurant's. I had the razor clam stir fried with hot peppers and black bean. It was not too spicy as to overpower the natural flavor of the razor clams. There was only a tiny bit of sand in it. On a previous visit, I had the razor clams steamed with garlic, ginger, onions, scallions, and wine. There was zero sand in it on my previous visit. I like it steamed more than the stir fry method. On this visit, I had the live scallops steamed with garlic, onions, scallions, ginger and wine. It was divine. The abalone was steamed with special sauce. Both the abalone and scallops were not rubbery. If you overcook these shellfish, it will be rubbery and it is very easy to overcook. The chef here is very skillful. The pissing shrimp (mantis shrimp) were stir fried in cheese crust. It was fragrant and slightly pungent from the cheese. All the seafood was excellent. The ginger chicken was average. I don't know what I was thinking, ordering a chicken in a seafood restaurant. Duh. Service (***** out of *****); Unlike most Cantonese restaurants, the waiters here will check up on you to see how you are doing, they'll change out your dirty plates, and the manager will also check up on you. Atmosphere (** out of *****); A typical mom and pop mini-restaurant. They have some photos of celebrities who've dined there before proudly displayed on the walls, but they have no decor and the front door is often open when the weather is nice outside, so you might have to fend off an occasional fly or mosquito. I did not see any flies at all on this trip. Conclusion (***** out of *****); The tally is 4 stars, but I gave them an extra star for value. They have no English menu, but it is not really necessary. All you have to do is point at the seafood that you want and then tell them, "tsing" (steamed), "chow tseow yeem" (stir fried with salt and pepper), "hu dow see tsew" (black beans and pepper), "cheese" (with cheese), or "chow" (stir fried). This is a hidden gem on the side streets frequented by locals, away from the tourist traps. For the best seafood in Hong Kong at a very reasonable price, go directly to New Tak Kee Seafood Restaurant. P.S. some unscrupulous seafood, mushroom, beef, and dairy vendors sell radioactive stuff from Fukushima and the surrounding regions in Japan. This is a big problem in Hong Kong because almost all food is imported into Hong Kong. My crazy S.O. actually tested all the seafood here and it is all within safety limits.

There's a few other Michelin Star rated seafood restaurants within walking distance but I've been told that the flavors here are unparalleled to. Here are some of the things we ordered in no particular order and hopefully somewhat correct names: Fish soup (5/5): surprisingly my favorite most memorable dish. Strong flavors without being overwhelming Fried squid cake (3.5/5): not as special as other items but great texture, crispy on the outside, similar to a deep fried fish ball Geoduck sashimi (5/5): super fresh ! Fried tofu (4.5/5): on the house and probably one of the best fried tofu I ever had. Crispy on the outside and the softest tofu ever inside. Fried abalone (4/5): great deep fried flavor. My only complaint was it was a little chewy but that might also be the natural texture of abalone Fried bigass shrimp whose English name I don't know but directly translated to "pee itself shrimp" (5/5): one of my top dishes, as large as a lobster. Tasted like lobster, deep fried flavor to perfection, but difficult to remove the shell from *update: mantis shrimp is the name* Uni fried rice (4/5): fried rice was cooked to perfection but I had to knock off a star just because it didn't really capture the uni flavor Crispy chicken (5/5): full of meat and flavor was on point, I was amazing at how they were able to make the skin on chicken so crispy as if it was Peking duck Red striped crab cooked in egg white (4/5): a little bland for my liking but the crab meat resembled the middle ground of king crab and singleness crab. Very simple flavors for those who like that Stir fried surf clams in black bean sauce (4/5): good flavor, cooked perfectly, but very similar to regular stir fried clam I would totally come back again on my next visit to Hong Kong! It's a shame that it is a bit of a journey and the best way there is if you know someone with a car, but worth it!
