We are immature so every time we go to Man Ho, we (I) have to giggle as we go down the escalator to the restaurant. Tucked away at the JW Marriott, the restaurant is nice and quiet even on the weekends. The tranquility - though i have to caveat the restaurant is busy but not cramped-crowded or loud - is rare found in a good restaurant in Hong Kong. I don't often dine in Michelin-starred or super-fine restaurants in HK and honestly haven't made a dent in eating through the HK food scene so as far as I know, this one is plenty good for me. Man Ho boasts of refining classic dishes and tasty fare from various regions of Chinese cuisine. The delicate execution is easily seen in their special dim sum section of the menu - I've never ordered wrong from these pages. The handful of private rooms come in handy for those business lunch meetings. The tall and heavy double doors make a meal inside seem super important even though it might be just a handful of lazy grunts who want some spendy grub. Man Ho's just downstairs from the office so while it's a treat to eat here, it is also super convenient. Their decor brings you back to the old school dynasty-era China before communism "ruined everything" though how authentic it is, I cannot tell :) it just looks like a very nice place to have a memorable meal. The wait staff is attentive and helpful in choosing dishes though I usually defer to the person who is paying to pick ;) Expensive place but worth the money for the peace. For once I can put my purse down without fear of it growing legs and walking away as I tuck into some fancy feast. Accessible through Pacific Place - just follow the signs for the JW Marriott - it's a long walk through the quiet corridors upstairs by the super designer stores

I went for dinner and as I was solo, I opted for their prix fixe set menu- the "premium" set. In my opinion, the food was lacking in taste and quality despite the high price. Maybe I should have ordered individual dishes, but even their signature baked crab dish was too creamy and salty. Service was also lacking in my mind. The waiters seemed unenthusiastic and often would place the next dish without a word or a simple phrase like "dessert" without any additional comments or explanation... and often had a tense or unfriendly expression. It was also difficult to get their attention as they were often times hard to locate. Yes this is Hong Kong, but this is not a cha chaan teng, and i guess I expected a bit more quality in service and food from a former michelin starred restaurant.

I am so glad we had an opportunity to dine here. I do recommend you make a reservation. We tried to dine there again on our last day but everything was booked. They were able to fit us at 11:45 and even allowed us to order the Peking duck with no advanced notice. You must do so 24 goes in advance. Unfortunately the time did not work well for us so we cancelled the last minute reservation. We had their crispy half chicken the best I had while in HK. I ordered this dish everywhere! The Golden Leaf's was crispiest and the skin looked like glass! While the chicken was still very juicy! The mixed fried rice delicious! Our waiter was very sweet as they were almost closing getting ready for dinner dining offered us some more rice they had. I was too full but my fiancée was very happy to accept some more. I highly recommend this place even if you aren't staying at the Conrad give this place a try it will be worth it!

This time it was hot, humid, and rainy around 11:20 am and our party of 4 was able to get a table easily though it was crowded again once we were finished. This place is so famous we saw people come straight from the airport with all their luggage! Portions are very good and probably too small for most people but I loved the size. Goose and Soy Sauce Chicken: They are most known for their roast goose which has a complex and layered seasoning different than other HK roast duck/goose places. This is my go to dish, this time it tasted great but my portion of goose was super small and I split it with a friend to not get too full so it was even smaller. We also ordered the same dish with noodles and roast pork with soy chicken, both the people who had this never had Yat Lok before and totally cleared their plates, don't forget to mix each bite with some of the oil scorched green onions!

Bottom half is the way to go. But it's way greasier than expected, and the skin wasn't as crispy as I imagined it would be. We also ordered half/half mix of the char siu and crispy pork so that we got to experience both of those without ordering too much of one thing. Crispy pork could've been fattier, but it was still good with decent crisp in the skin. Their HK milk tea is the first one I tried while visiting overseas and it had a heavier tea taste compared to some of the other ones I tried at other places later on (which can be totally subjective and better if you prefer a heavier tea taste). Service wasn't that great in my opinion, but I believe it's the standard semi-rude/impatient Asian service that you'd expect at most places in Hong Kong. Food and drinks came quickly. Limited seating and packed completely when we went, but had a short wait time (quick turnover). You are seated close to other customers, but it didn't feel overbearing. They take Visa. If you like roast duck and want to try roast goose, this place is probably worth a shot.

I really don't understand why this place is so popular…read more The roast goose looked great, but that's about it. The skin wasn't crispy at all, and it was unbelievably greasy--oil was literally dripping everywhere. There was barely any meat, and after a couple of bites, all I had left were bones. The taste was okay, but definitely not worth the hype. The biggest issue is the price. You're paying premium prices for average food and tiny portions. It feels like they're counting on tourists who probably won't be back anyway. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely renovated, but that's pretty much the only positive. The service was by far the biggest disappointment. After I asked for a glass of water because the food was so greasy, the two employees at the ordering counter started making comments about us instead of simply helping. Our table was right next to the counter, so we could hear everything they were saying. It honestly felt intentional, as if they wanted us to hear them. I've never experienced something so rude over such a simple request. What makes it even worse is that they charge a service fee. I'm perfectly fine paying for good service, but if you can't even bring a customer a glass of water, what exactly is that service charge for? Taking orders and bringing food to the table is just the bare minimum. To top it off, after finally getting a table, we were told to go wait by the entrance again. The whole experience was disorganized and frustrating. Overall, this place is incredibly overrated. Hong Kong has countless small neighborhood restaurants serving better roast goose, at better prices, with friendlier service. I'd rather spend my money there than come back here. Would not return, and definitely wouldn't recommend.
