Large selection of food items to choose from that you mark down on various slips of paper, and then you can help yourself to an equally large selection of beverages and desserts. They also have some hot and cold plates, although I didn't really pay it much attention, as I came mainly for the seafood, not the salads, spring rolls and fries. The desserts were pretty good though, lots of different kinds of mochi, pudding, ice cream, etc. Free wifi available. Washrooms were pretty clean.

They have a good variety of items to choose from, and obviously food can come a bit slow, but you can't beat how comfortable it feels in this place compared to all other buffet places. The way you order is simple. They have a booklet with papers ranging from the letters A - J? I don't remember. You just mark the foods you want and throw your hands up in the air sayin' AYOOO (No. Don't do that. It's a joke from part of an American song). But really, you wave a server down with the papers, and they'll take the papers. Some servers will actually say "mm-goi" when they take it! So nice. Drinks, you go grab them yourself from the fridge. Wild! So much options! Ice cream is located near the bathroom. Oh. They had this Hokkaido Milk(?) Pudding. It. Is. Yummy! I'd eat more of it if I could, but my stomach was already bloating from the amount I ate. Ai ya. And... the later you go eat there at night (before closing), the more percent off you'll get on your check. My friend and I were attracted to their AYCE (and drink!) deal which allowed us free range of the goods. Depending on the time you start your 2-hours, the price may fluctuate a bit. We came at 16:30 so we received the $180 per head deal for the shabu shabu goodness. Even on a Saturday, it was fairly empty inside with servers that looked nonchalant as they were passing out food to tables. Upon seating, you choose your main stock and have your go at the vegetables and cheaper-meats lying on the counter. There's also soft drinks and beer included in your price. The biggest trick here is that you're supposed to order off the "RicePon' app on your device. WHAT!? It took us about ten minutes before we realized that nobody was going to come to our table until we downloaded the app and ordered online. This explains why the service was pretty meh at the beginning- they don't come to you until you order. Nobody even told us we were supposed to do it this way, and I can speak/understand Canto. The app is fairly straight forwarded and if you can't read Chinese, they have photos associated with a majority of their items. Once you select the premium items including thinly sliced beef and pork, sushi, sashimi, etc. they'll bring them out to your table one by one. We ended up ordering three rounds of meat and seafood for our pot and had a blast. The slices of beef were definitely good and the freedom to order non-meat items made this one for the books. If you're looking for a good shabu shabu spot with minimal staff interaction but plenty of food and drinks, definitely check this spot out.

I liked everything I ordered, and my favorite was a dish roughly translated to "cotton chicken" / 棉花雞 which mainly consists of steamed chicken, fish maw and tofu skin. I tried this at another place close by and thought it was particularly good here. I believe it was recently renamed to 六安居 and although it's supposed to be the same, there could be changes. The dining rooms in Hong Kong at dim sum establishments are on a different level compared with their counterparts in North America. The attire of some of the clientele does not match the setting however. You could dine here in casual clothing and not feel out of place. I came here with my aunt on a Sunday morning. She mentioned that you have to come here early to grab a table. We did do that, but the wait was quite lengthy even though the restaurant is large. I think there were 40-50 numbers called before ours. Though at least you get your own table here, even if there is a 10% service charge. There are some dim sum places in HK where you are sharing space with others. Usually at this kind of dim sum restaurant, you expect the dim sum to be made to order where you order from a menu. In the case of Maxim's, they actually offer push cart dim sum. I was apprehensive at first since I perceive push cart dim sum to be not as good as made to order dim sum fresh from the kitchen. But the fare here easily is the best push cart dim sum that I have had. It debunked my misconception. The standout for me would be the congee with pumpkin and crabmeat. The pumpkin adds a nice sweet flavor to this dish. All of the other items were great too including the fish maw and beef balls with shiitake mushrooms. I did even try out fish heads. Usually that would weird me out, but I decided to give them a try and I enjoyed them. There were a lot of bones, but the fishmeat was tender. I did also like the accompaniment of chili peppers and tangy sauce. If you are looking for a great dim sum spot in Sha Tin, Maxim's Palace is an excellent spot. The push cart dim setup does not diminish its quality. Though be prepared for a lengthy wait for a table.
