I was prepared to wait in a long line based on reviews I've seen but surprisingly we just had to wait like two minutes before we got seated. Now if we were to arrive 10 minutes later, that's a different story. I swear a storm of people all decided to come at once because the line was forming fast. The waitress spoke enough English to get us through our order without any issues and even made suggestions, which is so rare in HK restaurants. She even noticed I was staring at the fan on the ceiling going 100mph and shivering and asked if I was cold and proceeded to tell her colleague to turn it down for me. Last time I went to HK, I fell in love with another goose place and knew I had to go to either that place again or try a new one. I'm proud to say I'm glad I chose this one. Place is more spacious and overall looks newer and modern when you compare the two. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, with little to no fat-- which is important to me because I'm pretty picky and cannot stand the fatty parts in my meat. The crispy skin also added texture and overall taste to the meat. No wonder this place is Michelin rated for the past 12 consecutive years. I would 100% come back and to try their chicken next time, which is also their top seller. They only had one left when we got seated and was gone by the time we paid our bill.

This one Michelin star restaurant was over an hr wait just to be seated. The restaurant itself is pretty small. There was already a long line when we arrived. You get a ticket number from the front to be placed on line. Here's what we did lol I was starving and there's no way I could've waited without eating first. So we went to eat at the Shanghai place around the corner. Came back and still saw the people that were in front/behind us. We ended up waiting another 15-20 mins and then we were seated. She said just wait a little longer so you can have the bigger table with extra space to put baby stroller. She was so nice to us! The food was superb!! The goose was so good but the suckling pig was the star for me. It was crunchy to perfection like I've literally never had such delicious roast pig before. Even their prince noodle was phenomenal. Overall a wonderful meal!!!

Anthony Bourdain mentioned in his last book that this was one of his favorite places to eat in Hong Kong. Hands down, the goose is top tier. Has the perfect blend of flavor, saltiness, and fat. Had it with the noodle soup. One of the best things I've had in Hong Kong. It's a must try for sure.

Waited almost an hour in line because this place is so famous, but honestly the experience was disappointing. After they finished cutting my portion of roast goose, I clearly saw the staff put the plate into a microwave to reheat it before serving to me. For a restaurant known for its roast goose and with a Michelin recognition, this was very surprising and unacceptable to me. I'm honestly uncomfortable and didn't say anything at the moment, but reheating roast goose in a microwave really affects both the texture and quality. Considering the long wait and the reputation of this place, the experience didn't meet expectations. Yes, I would NOT recommend this place.

If you heard the hype surrounding 甘牌燒鵝 (Kam's Roast Goose) and you've also been dying to try this restaurant, you're going to have to wait a bit longer. There is a long line and everyone else heard about the same goose restaurant too. We stopped by a few weeks ago on a Thursday evening, foolishly thinking we got here "early" at 5:30 PM. Nope. We waited for a solid hour for our table of seven. Thankfully, the lady managing the waiting area was nice and efficient, which we appreciated. Despite this restaurant holding a 1* rating in the Michelin Guide for many years, don't expect the typical Michelin experience. They want you in-and-out ASAP. The service was quick and our food came out just as fast. Our family got a whole roast goose to share, along with steamed choy sum, Cantonese long-boil soup, and this platter of meat. The soup was flavorful and soul-warming, so that was slurped down instantly. The choy sum and meat platter were fine, though nothing particularly memorable. Supposedly, the goose was the star, but it was a bit of a let down. It was seasoned well, and the sauce was good. However, the biggest issue was the texture: the meat was very tough, almost like the bird was old. This really dampened the experience. I'm not sure how this restaurant is a 1* with goose like this, especially since this is what people line up for. Overall, the food was fine, but definitely not worth the hour-long wait for tough goose. This was also an expensive meal! Without the wait, I would rate it a 4/5, but having to wait that long for a tough signature dish drops the rating to a 3/5.

1.5 hour wait on a Monday afternoon for Michelin star level roast goose. I noticed a lot of the people in line were mainland tourists so I was getting a bit concerned on my end. Anyway, we ordered 1/2 roast goose, marinated goose liver, and goose web (feet). The food came out within 5 minutes of ordering - stark difference compared to the queue. The goose was actually pretty good and I loved the plum sauce they give you on the side. The goose meat wasn't greasy at all. The marinated goose liver was too cooked but that's really just me because I prefer a different style. I've had better goose feet but they were decent here. Didn't had any issue with the service. I am disappointed the restaurant doesn't offer complimentary water/tea though. Definitely felt dehydrated after eating here. Would I come back? Probably not! There are other options that don't require 1.5 hour wait. I heard people recommend Yat Lok so I may have to give that one a try.

There's a solid 40-45 minute for our goose -- but remember to grab a ticket from inside first. You'll see a line pretty quickly, but it's more of a waiting area than a line. We tried cha shu, half goose, and some crispy pork belly. The pork was perfectly crispy and the cha shu sweet, tender, with no charred edges. I've never had goose, but it tasted like a leaner duck with a thinner fat layer. Super tasty with a side of plum sauce, served similar in style to roast duck! In hindsight, we could properly ordered less for the two of us (we also had two white rice each). All in all recommend stopping by! I did feel like service is pretty rushed, but I think the setting isn't really the place to drink tea and socialize! It makes sense given the wait (at 2PM!) and the space is definitely a little cleaner with a more decorated interior than some other duck or BBQ spots around.

Now I know the reason for their long lines to get in. First of all, the place is small. Their dining area is probably as big as my small living room. Secondly, they're Michelin rated as a highly rated roasted goose eatery. Here, we call it roasted duck. But is there a difference?! No need to answer. Lol. The wait outside was around thirty to forty minutes before getting seated. The roasted goose here was delicious indeed. We ordered half a goose, and it was plenty for the two of us. Very large pieces, and lots of meat on the goose. Dip the piece in some sweet and sour sauce... boom! Delicious! Yes, there was a lot of fat underneath the skin. But I still devoured it, I'll worry about my health when I get back. Lol. We also had a half order of roasted pork, and another half order of barbecue pork. It also delicious! Very flavorful, and did not need to dip it in any sauce. Gosh, I'm hungry now just for writing about it. Again, because this place is so busy, the waiter wanted everyone to just eat and leave. They won't tell you directly, but they'll bring the check over while you're still eating. Of course, it's a nicer way to tell the customers to "get out"! Lol. It was a great experience coming here. Don't expect any place in Hong Kong to be clean and tidy. So just eat, and don't think. I saw cooked geese and raw geese around the whole kitchen, while going to the restroom. Most are hanging only inches to the floor. And also saw a man mopping nearby the food because it was all wet. Quite unsanitary imo. But oh well, I'm on vacation. Overall, the food is good there. No complaints, except for the kitchen I saw. Standing outside waiting for a table take a lot of patience. There's no such thing as a straight line, nor being proper. You'll get a number, and the hostess there will yell out your number as loud as she can when your table is ready. Why? Because it's so noisy, and people talk loud. Lol. Also, you should wear a surgical mask because of the pollution from the vehicles. Yes, lots of traffic and foot traffic on the street. Five stars for the food and experience. But so much turmoil around ruins the vibe. So four stars.

Arrived at 11:20am on a Sunday in late June, 10 minutes before they opened. The line was already very long. A lady came out to give numbers to everyone in line. We should have taken the number, walked around, and come back. I found out later the rule is you lose your place in line if you miss your number by 5. Most groups kept at least one person waiting in line. We waited about an hour and a half. On weekends, they only offer full plates of the BBQ - goose, roast pork, char siu, etc. No lunch specials of BBQ over rice. So we ordered a 1/4 goose, roast pork, a bowl of rice, a plate of noodles, cold cucumber, and half a preserved egg. The best thing was the roast pork with the crispy skin. The goose was a bit too oily and fatty for our liking. The signature noodles were kinda bland but cooked well. The cucumbers were nice for cutting the fat since they were vinegary. The picked ginger that came with the preserved egg went well with it. It came out to almost 600 HKD for the 2 of us. I'm glad my wife got to try roast goose, good roast pork, and preserved egg, but I wouldn't come back on a weekend because of the wait and the lack of lunch specials. On weekdays I think the lunch special would be worth it since the lower ratio of meat to rice should make the fattiness of the meat more palatable. And I've heard the wait is also better on weekdays.

Kam's Roast Duck at Wan Chai is a Michelin Star BBQ store. They claimed that they have been 10 years Michelin star in a row. When we arrived, there was a huge lineup. We waited 1 hour 30 mins and finally got seated. Ordered 1/4 quarter roast duck and regular order cha siu. Honestly, as most people said, the duck itself is nothing too special, but the sauce is very special. People came here for the duck sauce. Cha siu is not even on par with Fat J or Yung's. Even though it is the most popular place in Wan Chai, but I won't wait one and half hour for BBQ lunch or dinner.

One might consider this place a little pricey, but it is worth it! The food is delicious, the service is fast, and, despite the crammed space, they provided a good experience for the diners. The goose was juicy and tasty. It was a little oily than I preferred it to be, but that's what you get from a goose. I have never had goose this good. It's a must try if you're in HK.

Even at 3pm, there was already a long line outside this Michelin roast goose eatery, a must visit in Hong Kong. The line moves fast, and once seated in the crowded space, you will enjoy the roast goose that is so rich and juicy, you will need napkins!

Roast pig (3rd best meat we ordered)
    Oliver C.

Arrived around 3:30 pm on this past Monday. Got a ticket with a number on it. And there's a digital number display outside the restaurant when your table is ready. Maybe a 10-15 minute wait as the restaurant was full and waiting for the crowds to shuffle in and out. There's room for maybe ~20 groups in there. Ordering and delivery of food is super efficient. Must orders: roast goose of course! Char siu too. The roast pig was delicate too, but not exactly my thing. Maybe I should have gone for the pork belly. They've definitely earned their star on taste! If I lived nearby, I would go back monthly! Apparently there are goose over rice plates, but they must have sold out, or maybe it's only for lunch. But that was printed on the number. And mentioned ala crate orders only. Might be tougher if solo, but 2+ people can handle two dishes. 3+ people if ordering dishes.

These are hands down the best egg rolls that I've ever had! Honey BBQ Spare Ribs: This is one of their specialties and I highly recommend that you order this dish. Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf: Tasty and not overly oily (Yes!) fried rice was generously mixed with Chinese sausage, minced pork, salty egg yolk, among many other goodies. Again, the serving size was tiny but the flavor was supreme. And that perfectly matches the city where the value of food is generally not measured by its size, but by its quality.

When we arrived, around 8:20pm, almost all the signature poultry dishes were sold out. So I guess your safest bet is to call in advance and reserve their signature tea smoked chicken. Take note. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, winter melon with chilis, salted minced pork and shrimp, the char siu BBQ, and the stir-fried flat noodles with beef. They asked if we wanted to order a bowl of specialty rice to go with the mains, but rice is rice right? The winter melon was quite spicy but very fragrant 很香 from the shrimp paste flavor. The sweet and sour pork (gu lu yok) was a bit underwhelming to say the least - maybe it's because I'm used to the bright orange flavor of this dish at other restaurants, and the presentation nothing special. The char siu was very very lean - not fatty at all and the meat quite tough to bite in at times. I think they used the leanest pork tenderloin for the char siu... but the fat is the best part! :'( The 乾炒牛河 was done well, the beef was tender, solid classic Cantonese dish.

Before I go into the food, I must praise how well-trained their staff are. This lady named Jacky was very welcoming and kept making sure we were well served. Her sincere and genuine attitude earned some praises among us and she even rewarded us with some free desserts at the end. We also ordered a bottle of red but our wine expert friends tasted something wrong in the wine and the male waiter tasted the wine and confirmed the wine went wrong. He immediately allowed us to order another bottle. This kind of service is quite rare in most local restaurants in HK. We ordered many of their classic dishes including the Kin's smoked chicken, fried thousand-year-old egg with pickled ginger, stir-fried lion-head fish fillet with lettuce shoot, seasonal lamb pot, pomelo peel with vegetables and mushroom, fried glutinous rice with Chinese sausages, etc. The best dish was definitely their signature smoked chicken. The lion-head fish is generally rare to find and hard to cook, yet they made the dish simple but spectacular. In terms of the decor, the restaurant has many interesting things if you look around. There are some small fish tanks in bird cages hanging in the restaurant. There are also many photo portraits which were taken by the owner, Mr. Lau Kin Wai. In case you don't know, Mr. Lau was a former art-critic and food-writer. It's not a surprise that the interior design of his restaurant is filled with art. I highly recommend Kin's Kitchen for some Cantonese fine-dining. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes.

They have a minimum charge per person $90, so sharing may not be possible unless you take the other portion to go. Containers cost $1. We ordered the notorious pork with curry $110. It came with 2 pork chops on rice and a bowl of curry with a potato in it. The pork was tender and full of flavor. It was delicious by itself with rice. The curry was abit too hot for me, so I just ate the potato. The portions were very substantial and we ended up sharing a pork curry, while taking the other portion to go. Containers cost $1. Staff were friendly and welcoming, despite the long lines and rather tight spaces in the restaurant. Note: this is a cash only place.

One of the servers came out and warned everyone that they close at 8:30 pm, and by then only the curry fish, pork cutlet, brisket, chicken and beef were left as everything else was sold out. Even after hearing that, nobody left the line. We finally got seated right around 8:30 pm and ordered the fish, beef and pork chop. Everything arrived within about 10 minutes. For Hong Kong standards, the portions were absolutely massive. Each dish cost HKD 110 and even came with a huge piece of potato in the gravy/sauce. Note that everything but beef was deep fried. The meat were tender and juicy. The curry itself was really tasty and fragrant. It wasn't exactly Japanese curry or Indian or Thai curry; kind of its own thing but it had a nice hint of spice that worked really well. Because the portions were so huge, we actually packed a big takeaway box before we even started chowing down. We each got a cream soda too, which honestly feels mandatory when you're in Hong Kong. Overall, it was a good experience. Just note: they only take cash, and they also charge for takeaway containers. Bring an umbrella too as there is no cover while waiting outside. There is also a HK$90 minimum pp charge.

This time it was hot, humid, and rainy around 11:20 am and our party of 4 was able to get a table easily though it was crowded again once we were finished. This place is so famous we saw people come straight from the airport with all their luggage! Portions are very good and probably too small for most people but I loved the size. Goose and Soy Sauce Chicken: They are most known for their roast goose which has a complex and layered seasoning different than other HK roast duck/goose places. This is my go to dish, this time it tasted great but my portion of goose was super small and I split it with a friend to not get too full so it was even smaller. We also ordered the same dish with noodles and roast pork with soy chicken, both the people who had this never had Yat Lok before and totally cleared their plates, don't forget to mix each bite with some of the oil scorched green onions!

It's held a one Michelin star consecutively for 11 years!!! This was on my top list of places to go. Obviously, we got the roast geese. It wasn't as good as I had expected because I think we got the fatty leg section. Don't get me wrong, the glistening roast geese was delicious! I just wish it wasn't as fatty. We got the quarter size because we want to try other dishes. Crispy roast pork + Char Siu (Barbecue Pork) was on point! The roast pork skin is crispy and tasty. Char Siu is savory and sweet with smoky flavor. The vegetables was simply prepared but so good. It helps break up the greasy food. White rice and noodles for carb. This was a hearty meal. It is on the expensive side compare to other casual Cantonese bbq meats spot.
