The true standouts were the roast pork and char siu. The roast pork had an ultra-crispy skin--almost sharp enough to cut your mouth, but in the best possible way--paired with juicy, flavorful meat underneath. The char siu struck a perfect sweet-and-savory balance, with a beautiful ratio of fat to meat that made each bite melt in your mouth. We also tried the suckling pig, which had wonderfully fragrant and flavorful meat. The skin was tasty, though not quite as crispy as the roast pork's. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. The space is simple--white tiled walls, small stools, and a cozy, no-frills dining room that lets the food do all the talking.

Also known as "Hing Gung" (慶功), it literally means to celebrate and to reward the hard work the crew put into the show. Much like sik siu, since the eaters are of high exertion, the food would most naturally be as trashy as can be~ Healthy eaters might want to hit the return button now as the foods may be despicably fattening. Deep fried is almost the golden rule for every trashy food, even in Hong Kong; the famous shrimp toast is actually minced shrimp smeared on a piece of bread and deep fried to crunchy perfection; and you got it, the piece of bread is soaked with grease. To make it even more damaging, mayonnaise is served on the side for you to dip the toast in. Damaging as it seems, but it is also very gratifying and is often the dish that is cleared the soonest. Hing Gung is often an event of the nights and there aren't a lot of joint cater to this batch of customers at this time of the day. I still remember walking into this shop with the waiter asking us to wait outside the shop at 11 in the evening, while they were trying hard to rearrange the tables to sit the 15 of us down. For a restaurant that is still crowded towards midnight, you know they must have done something right.

So one might ask - what's the difference? -- Quality instead of quantity. Refinedness over size. That means that the tiny bite-size siu mai's are of supreme quality - perfect texture and very rich in flavor. -- Creativity. I'm quite sure that most dim sum lovers would have had a version of stuffed peppers somewhere. But how about a dish (or pan) of freshly pan-fried stuffed peppers and eggplants served - you guessed it - in the pan! Absolute yumminess can somehow indeed be found. (See picture) -- More Creativity. How about some fried bean curb rolls with baked lobster broth? (See picture). Bean curb rolls are a very common dim sum dish. But wait! Deep fry these super yummy rolls and serve them with a bowl of baked lobster broth with a flaky crust? Just in case you don't know how you're supposed to eat these (LOL) - Take a piece of the roll and dip it into the lobster broth, let it soak for a few second, then put it in your mouth and at the same time contemplate how far you are away from dim sum heaven. -- A rare gem perfectly made. Trying to find a quail's egg in the US in not that hard. But trying to find a quail's egg siu mai in the US is close to impossible Especially a really good one. We ordered many of their classic dishes including the Kin's smoked chicken, fried thousand-year-old egg with pickled ginger, stir-fried lion-head fish fillet with lettuce shoot, seasonal lamb pot, pomelo peel with vegetables and mushroom, fried glutinous rice with Chinese sausages, etc. The best dish was definitely their signature smoked chicken. The lion-head fish is generally rare to find and hard to cook, yet they made the dish simple but spectacular. In terms of the decor, the restaurant has many interesting things if you look around. There are some small fish tanks in bird cages hanging in the restaurant. There are also many photo portraits which were taken by the owner, Mr. Lau Kin Wai. In case you don't know, Mr. Lau was a former art-critic and food-writer. It's not a surprise that the interior design of his restaurant is filled with art. Crab is fresh, and the juice melts down in the rice. However, the egg white is not the sweet version. Personally we love the deep fried egg white more than the salty egg white. Overall wonderful taste on all the dishes!

It wasn't exactly Japanese curry or Indian or Thai curry; kind of its own thing but it had a nice hint of spice that worked really well. Because the portions were so huge, we actually packed a big takeaway box before we even started chowing down. We each got a cream soda too, which honestly feels mandatory when you're in Hong Kong. Overall, it was a good experience. Just note: they only take cash, and they also charge for takeaway containers. Bring an umbrella too as there is no cover while waiting outside. Their HK milk tea is the first one I tried while visiting overseas and it had a heavier tea taste compared to some of the other ones I tried at other places later on (which can be totally subjective and better if you prefer a heavier tea taste). Service wasn't that great in my opinion, but I believe it's the standard semi-rude/impatient Asian service that you'd expect at most places in Hong Kong. Food and drinks came quickly. Limited seating and packed completely when we went, but had a short wait time (quick turnover). You are seated close to other customers, but it didn't feel overbearing. They take Visa. If you like roast duck and want to try roast goose, this place is probably worth a shot.

It feels like they're counting on tourists who probably won't be back anyway. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely renovated, but that's pretty much the only positive. The service was by far the biggest disappointment. After I asked for a glass of water because the food was so greasy, the two employees at the ordering counter started making comments about us instead of simply helping. Our table was right next to the counter, so we could hear everything they were saying. It honestly felt intentional, as if they wanted us to hear them. I've never experienced something so rude over such a simple request. What makes it even worse is that they charge a service fee. I'm perfectly fine paying for good service, but if you can't even bring a customer a glass of water, what exactly is that service charge for? Taking orders and bringing food to the table is just the bare minimum. To top it off, after finally getting a table, we were told to go wait by the entrance again.
