Our second favorite Xiao long Bao place besides DTF. Their hand pulled noodles are the best . We usually order the spicy Dan Dan noodles or hand pulled beef noodles soups. Yummy . We tried many locations of this chain in HK and in Singapore . Service is great and food is always decent every time .. This time we visited the Gateway Arcade location and We ordered Xiao Long Bao, spicy noodles soup and spicy shrimp won ton . Too much food for two people! We were two happy souls after .

This place offers consistently good food at a reasonable price, and fast service, so I am a fan. It gets very busy during meal time, so be there early/late or be prepared for a wait. This place is known for its Xiao Long Bao. Definitely among the best, with thin skin, juicy broth and ample stuffing. While they don't make a big show of it, the noodles are pulled in house and you can see it in the semi-open kitchen. They have dan dan noodle, snow cabbage with shredded pork, chicken noodle, Shanghai stir fried noddles, and more. Besides the dumplings and noodles, there are many appetizers and entrees to try. The drunken chicken, cold pate, vinegar ribs, shredded eel, goji berries with fresh nagaimo, shrimp with dragon well tea leaves are all dishes I've tried and like. I found the fried fish a bit too dry and hard, and same goes for the duck, but otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the food. Their portions are small, so you can order quite a few dishes to share. Do save room for desserts. The Chinese doughnut (高力豆沙) with red bean paste is pillowy soft, and the red bean pancake crispy and piping hot. Rice balls in wine soup 酒釀湯圓 is another delight to try.

A 40-minute DukLing junk boat ride around Victoria Harbour left us famished. Not too far from Tsim Sha Tsui promenade is the Harbour City mall, where Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao is located. We stumbled upon this restaurant on accident, but I was satisfied with the food here in the end. Given the restaurant name, you must order those two items: la mian and xiao long bao. Entering the restaurant, you pass by the large windows where chefs are preparing the la mian, pulling the long starchy noodles repeatedly at arms length - a fun 'prequel' for your meal. We had our la mian in a broth with preserved shredded pork and vegetables. Overall the dish was very warming and filling. The noodles had great chewy texture, but it becomes filling very quickly. The broth preserved pork and veggies weren't too salty either. The XLBs were delicious here. Much to my surprise, it was four per order as opposed to the usual eight or ten. The dumpling skins were smooth and thin, yet robust enough to hold inside the juicy pork and delicious soup. Service was quick and decent. The restaurant is very spacious and I appreciate the large booth seating and the modern, comfortable atmosphere. Now I'm interested in trying the Crystal Jade branch back home in San Francisco, but we'll see if it's as good as Hong Kong's.

Shopping around Harbour City made Crystal Jade an easy lunch choice. The view from the restaurant is really something if you can snag a window seat. Despite the well dressed crowd, it's still in populated Hong Kong, and we sat almost elbow to elbow with the table next to us. They're known for their hand pulled noodles. The woman beside me was slurping a hot bowl of la mian and i didn't want to miss out on their claim to fame. I thought i had ordered the shrimp... ...only to receive the noodles with pork. Calling this out to a passing waiter did not go well. He asked if we'd like them to change it and we said, "yes, that'd be great!" only to be given an angry huff and puff. The woman delivering the new batch of noodles wasn't any better. The dirty look she threw as she left the table is still burning into my eyes as we speak. Yikes, i was worried to eat it after all that. At least the vegetables and XLB were good. We ordered a limited special abalone XLB and i honestly couldn't tell the difference between the traditional pork and abalone xlb. Skip. I left favoring Din Tai Fung!

Crystal Jade is a good dining experience in the Gateway Arcade mall that is worth stopping by if you're in the area for shopping or otherwise. Find it all the way on the west side of third floor of Gateway Arcade (also accessible from Harbor City mall), with a few windows looking out onto the water. Inside, the restaurant almost criminally underuses its incredible views, with only a few window seats available looking out onto the gorgeous harbor and Central Hong Kong skyline. Other tables are more boring, but it's fine as the restaurant is clean and reasonably well decorated. Service is slow and meandering, but good enough if you aren't in a huge hurry. The restaurant is known for its hand-pulled noodles, and you can watch the chefs making your noodles in the kitchen after you order them. Other popular dishes include dim sum classics like xiao long bao and wontons in chili sauce. Everything was fine, with no standout dishes or items I would recommend against. Prices, like everything else, were fairly average. Overall, a pretty good dining experience but probably not worth going too far out of your way.

Xiao Lun Bao

This chained Shanghainess restaurant is located at the Harbor City shopping center in Tsim Sha Tsui. I am usually a fan of this place since the selection of menu is quite diverse and as a chain the quality is generally up to standard. However, our recent visit to this location was quite a disappointment. The Xiao lun bao was delivered to us lukewarm and our tan tan noodles have noodles clumped together. Services were minimal. We had to flag someone down several times to get our order, add order and get our check. Other location at Times Square at Causeway Bay doesnt seem to share the same quality problem. Hope they can be more consistent among all locations.

I really really really like this restaurant. There's nice view from the smallest window I've ever seen, but the intention is there. I get it. And the staff is also the worst I've seen for a "fine dining" restaurant. I do consider this a fine dinning restaurant being in Harbour City AND its decor AND its fancy table. And napkins. We get napkins! But we don't get our water filled. Still I love the food here!! I find the food at Din Tai Fung too sweet and have adapted towards Hong Kong taste. We had the spicy ramen that come with 5 large hot peppers. Mixed thoroughly into the soup, it is the spiciest (and delicious) soup. Spicy dumplings!! This is my favourite Shanghai dish, and here they make them gooooood. Ahh I might have spoken too soon! The chicken ding is ALSO my favourite Shanghai dish. Here, it's A LOT of chicken and cashews. It's typically spicy but because we had spicy dumplings and the ramen, the chicken was honestly our chaser. HAPPY BELLY!!!

The pork belly and xiao long bao were a hit!

Try: Xiao Long Bao Hand Pulled Noodles with Braised Beef 3 Chili Pepper Noodles with Beef Pork Belly Spicy Wontons Pro: I personally had the Xiao Long Bao and the hand-pulled noodles. They were savory, filling, and overall delicious. The table really enjoyed the pork belly and spicy wontons, and the local chili head praised the 3 chili noodles. Don't miss out on this gem! Con: The service was eh. They kept serving the wrong meals to the wrong people, and we were only a table of 5, and we were pretty varied. I'd have given them 5 stars on the food alone, but the service knocks it down a bit.

Dumpling feast!

People have loyalties for 小籠包/XLB--the biggest fan clubs seem to be 1) Crystal Jade 2) 鼎泰豐/DTF 3) Paradise Dynasty or 4) an underground hole-in-the-wall using some secret family recipe. In my never-ending XLB quest which has thus far spanned all over California and Hong Kong, Crystal Jade has come the closest to the perfect XLB--defying the laws of physics in which a delicately thin wonton skin somehow holds together a dumpling bursting with flavor, replete with succulent pork and savory broth. The filling has just the right amount of fattiness to make a tasty dumpling, yet leaving enough space in your stomach for other food. A meal with dumplings isn't complete without its cousin, hand-pulled noodles. It is deliciously simple--soft noodles that taste noticeably fresh. I would recommend the vegetarian choices because the scallion is a nice complement and allows you to focus on the noodles without the distraction of other toppings. The other dumplings and the chicken broth are good too, with consistently high quality. There's also been some popularity lately with the colorful XLB, but in my opinion that's more fore presentation and novelty because nothing beats the classic XLB here. Crystal Jade is more expensive than your average meal, but well worth it especially for the overall comfy dining experience and posh ambiance (classy enough to look like a place that James Bond would visit)

smoked fish, egg white and prawns, hand made noodles with pork, some other stuff I ate before remember to photograph bc im a pig

I recently found out this place is a chain even in other Asian countries. just order: hand pulled noodles with whatever shrimp wontons egg white with prawns was good but not required super good and reliable. also if traveling on business don't sweat it as many solo diners dine here and you may have to share a community table but remember you're not that important and will be forgotten 20 mins after you leave order: wait staff dress: casual af

Sichuan "Dan Dan" La Mian Noodles (with dried shrimp and peanut in spicy sauce) - very good
David T.

Good XLB's but otherwise a little disappointing. Not really a dimsum place, no carts and only a small selection of Dim Sum items on the menu. The hand pulled noodles are nice. The chilli wontons were terrible, they have far too much vinegar. The decor at this location is clean and modern, but more cafeteria-like than high end. This has a very different feel to the palacial Crystal Jade in San Francisco. The service is better than average for asian eateries, but not stellar. The food is average and the prices reasonable. The XLB's are good, but I still prefer XLB's and other dumplings at Din Tai Fung.

La Mian in hot and sour soup
James T.

Oh em gee. Great food, service, and atmosphere. We ordered the hot and sour La Mian noodle soup--it was thick and sour and spicy and sinful. We also ordered an assortment of dumplings: daikon radish dumpling, xiao long bao, and Shanghai pork dumpling (can't remember the name but it's perfectly pan fried on the bottom). The service team promptly fills your tea cup, sometimes without even noticing. They charge a service fee do no need to include additional tip. The decor is dimly lit, and there are jade fixtures everywhere (hence the name). However you won't care because the food is so darn good. This is a great place to catch a bite to eat and then walk over to Tsim Sha Tsui to watch the symphony of lights.

Joy V.

I actually had high hope for this place. Soup dumplings were fantastic while other items tasted like fast food Chinese here in America.

Old vs. new. Got to get my Diet Coke fix - should I be worried?

Delicious food. Lots of amazing things to try. Fast service and good prices. Hopefully I can go again someday.

No reservations taken but no waiting for us. We were seated immediately. A menu was provided that described about fifty choices in Chinese and English. I lack a taste for the exotic so the six items we selected had vegetables, chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp. We are less adventurous than some and, without guidance, stuck to ingredients of some familiarity. Rather than bringing all at once, there was a measured pace for delivery to our table. As dim sum lovers, we dug in. The experience of robust flavors and the environment combined to give us a genuine Hong Kong experience. Our total bill was less than $100US.

Getting to try it in Hong Kong, the home of Dimsum, I thought this was going to be a 10/10. Yeah, not quite. The wrapping of each dishes were thicker than most places, so that was already offputting. That plus the taste of the fillings inside the xiao long baos, it's like you eat one and you already feel fed up and over it. And then there was no Har Gow in the menu, one of the most essential in a dimsum restaurant... Price was also much more expensive than your typical dimsum places in Hong Kong, and then some outrageous charges like $12 for tea per person, when it's literally one teapot at a table... and adding an additional 10% if you want to take the dishes to go if you don't finish... Yeah, this is a hard no. The only reason why I'm even giving it a two star rating is because customer service was spectacular and the tea was pretty tasty.

Sportful Garden (what kind of a name is that?) does a pretty good job, creating new dishes as well as refreshing the staples, like the super long spring rolls. If you can hang on for a little bit and come in after two, you get the happy hour price which is 40% off many dishes plus some staple dim sum dishes for HK$14-18 (like, US$2). Early birds before noon gets a discount too. They also have roasted pigeon for $33 (US$4) each, and even provide gloves for you to enjoy with your hands. While I very much want to order the super-instagram-worthy birdcage dim sum set (I've taken a pic of the menu if not the real thing), my sensible mom insisted that we order from the discounted menu. I managed to get the piggies though (with purple yam filling). I simply have a weakness for ordering things so cute I suffer a pang of guilt eating them. Situated at the very top of the isquare mall in TST, it's a convenient location both for Kowloon and HK siders. The restaurant itself is a beautifully bright space with amazing panoramic views. It's quite modern/upscale and would be a good place to go for work lunches etc but you won't get any nasty looks rocking up in shorts/tshirts etc... (i went there in gym gear). The food...wow. I thought after 30+ years of eating chinese food i'd pretty much seen every iteration of a spring roll. I was mistaken. Granted it's hard to make the case for a spring roll to be the standout dish at yum cha but i've never seen them done like this (pictures attached). Each one is about 20cm long and stuffed with juicy fresh shrimp. I have it on good authority that they are also a massive crowd pleaser for kids too. Other than that, every dish was equally superb and fresh. All the usual suspects (har gao, siu mai, lo bak gou, char siu sou) were top notch; fresh, juicy, thin skins. The lo mai gai was another standout - not the usual stodgy, dense, overly sticky lump; rather it was surprisingly light and the meat didn't taste at all congealed, with just enough glutinous-ness to make the rice sit neatly. And the crispy pork cubes...oh the crispy pork cubes. I'd been craving these for over a year since the only offerings to be found in NY are better described as lumps of soggy fat with a micro film of crispy skin and occasionally a bit of pork. All in all an amazing feed. Adding it to the list of regular places to hit in HK.

They gave us a booklet along with the paper to fill out, and most of the dim sum was the classic dim sum that I'm accustomed to. Their chiu chou fun gor was alright for me. Their cheung fun wasn't the silky light type, so I was just alright with it. Their Chicken with Sticky Rice wraped in Lotus Leaf was huge though, way bigger than those in Los Angeles. Their fresh mango custard roll was my highlight though, as they had chunks of mango in the middle and it was sweet. Would try this again. I think the one other aspect of this place is the interior is really clean, and they have a decent amount of tables inside. Service is a bit more attentive as the area isn't as large.
