We came here for dinner and had to come back for dim sum for lunch. The food was delicious. We ordered the following dishes: XLBs - exceptional! (Better than the Dining Room) Spinach in garlic - yummy Potstickers - good Fried rice - delicious (got chicken, pork, and shrimp) Egg tarts - small but good Pork buns - kids ate them up Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for good dim sum! I would definitely come back if I'm visiting Hong Kong again.

To me, Din Tai Fung is not as special as everyone claims it to be. Their signature xiao long bao isn't the best I've had and the soup isn't very flavorful. What I do love is their spicy shrimp and pork wontons! Also tried their steamed glutinous rice and pork shao-mai and steamed shrimp and pork shao-mai, but both were very bland.

Yum. It's just like the locations in California. Although it is a bit pricey for HK, but it's more about the presentation here. Everything we got here was good. Get the soup dumplings and get the veggies.

I went twice during my stay in HK. I liked it that much! The flavor of the truffle bao was may favorite. It was the most expensive but well worth the price. The experience of watching them make the dumplings by hand through the glass window was amazing. I went my my little daughter and she loved the experience. Also the restaurant is very big and bathroom are impecable.

During my latest trip to Hong Kong, I made it my mission to get my xiao long bao (XLB) fix. I took my wife to four different restaurants that specialize in these soup dumplings. Interestingly enough, my verdict remains the same. For these "pillows of happiness" to endear themselves to Anthony Bourdain, Din Tai Fung (DTF) is still one of the top dogs. They have really gotten it down to a science when it comes to the technique in making XLB. They don't take reservations. Since it wasn't too far from our hotel, we just hopped over to check it out. Lunch time during the week was easy. We were seated immediately. When there's a crowd, your stay is limited to 1.5 hours per the sign at the front. I saw locals and tourists in the mix of patrons. Unfortunately, DTF only offers one type of tea. Oolong? For those who are tea connoisseurs, you will want to look elsewhere. Service was attentive and they have an open kitchen where you can see the crew doing the prep work before sending the morsels off to the steamers. My XLB arrived piping hot. That's exactly the way they should be served. The skin was thin, the soup was flavorful and the pork was tender. DTF knows how to balance the filling-to-dough ratio perfectly. The vinegar and ginger are always great enhancement. I savored every single bite. If you are new to XLB, no sweat, there are instructions in different languages along with pictures to guide you through the eating process. We had other dishes too: string beans with minced pork, black sesame buns, soy bean milk. I'm sure they tasted fine but I mainly remember the XLB heehee.

Much to my dismay, not all Din Tai Fung are created equal! I dined at the original flagship store in Taipei by Yong Kang St a couple weeks before visiting this store in HK, and the xiao long baos were exceptional at Yong Kang St but disappointingly bland and forgetful here in Mira Mall HK. Also, the food at Mira Mall was much more expensive -- a basket of 6 pork XLBs for $60 HKD here, versus a basket of 10 for ~$50 HKD equivalent at Yong Kang St. Add on basket of 6 truffle pork XLBs, a bowl of minced pork and black bean sauce noodles, and a plate of gai lan -- all of which were decent but not the most amazing dishes I've tasted -- for a hefty total of $370 HKD... well, all I can say is I'm glad I snacked a lot prior to dinner because if I went into DTF hungry, I would've left more dissatisfied with the portions and costly bill.

So we don't have a Din Tai Fung in Canada. What we do have is a knock-off version called Ding Tai Fung. Yes, a Canadian knock-off of something originating from Asia. How wacky. Be warned, this is not the cheapest food venture. Michelin-star food at Michelin-star portions. An order of fried spring beans (四季豆) for HKD ~$60 was maybe a little more than the size of my hand. BUT if you know what to order, you can have a fulfilling meal at a reasonable price at a VERY affordable Michelin-star rated restaurant! First things first, the Xiao Long Bao is a must. They have different variations of it, but I stick with the classic and it's never let me down. Juicy, soupy, and delicious morsels of flavour. Other highlights include the pan fried dumplings, which look like a weird crispy landing platform. It's the most delicious platform I've ever tasted. Also fantastic is their take on the Korean Jajangmyeon, which involves noodles with minced pork and edamame beans, and their beef brisket soup noodle which has some of the tenderest beef brisket ever. Now I've got nothing against the knock-off we have, it's actually really good. But come on DTF, isn't it about time you spread your tasty franchise a little bit more to the north? I think It's time for Canadians to be DTF with DTF: Down to fatten up with Din Tai Fung! (87/100) - 2016

So far, I've yet to meet a Din Tai Fung I didn't like, at least in Hong Kong. DTF has completely saturated the Hong Kong XLB (#1) market and has done a good job in keeping the name in good standing through quality food and excellent service. This location is located in the Miramar Mall (https://www.yelp.com/biz/%E7%BE%8E%E9%BA%97%E8%8F%AF%E5%95%86%E5%A0%B4-%E9%A6%99%E6%B8%AF-2) and is on the 4th floor with a slew of other restaurants. Due to the nearby and slightly larger location at Silvercord Mall (https://www.yelp.com/biz/%E9%BC%8E%E6%B3%B0%E8%B1%90-%E9%A6%99%E6%B8%AF-2), DTF of Miramar is significantly less popular and therefore has less crowds. There are tables everywhere, for all sorts of groups, and a staff that attends to each one quickly and efficiently. I've never had to wait for a table at any point in time, even during the prime hour of the dinner rush. This makes this location just a tad more appealing than the other for me. As for the soup dumplings, they're succulent and delicious. They only offer the crab seasonally, which means it's not ever on the menu. Though that's a slight bummer, the pork version is super tasty and they have a bundle of other varieties (chicken, steamed angle loofah and shrimp, and the ever popular black truffle!). The skin is thin, the broth is rich, and the ratio is flawless. If this isn't some of the best soup dumplings I've ever had, it certainly ranks high for consistency. The other items on the menu have also been stellar, even if the portions have been slightly on the smaller side. I can never get enough of the sauteed pea shoots (清炒豆苗), which is their most expensive vegetable at $120HKD, but they run out of this all the time. As a result, I tend to get the sauteed spinach and garlic (清炒豆苗) often for almost 1/3 cheaper ($40HKD). The scallion oil noodles (香蔥拌麵) are delicious, as is the minced pork and bean sauce (炸醬拌麵) version. I'm also strangely addicted to their egg fried rice with shrimp and pork (蝦仁肉絲蛋炒飯), along with their version of shrimp wonton noodles (蝦肉餛飩湯麵). Their pan fried dumplings (蝦肉煎餃) is perfectly crispy and beautifully presented, I can't get enough of it. The most surprising delicious item for me was their pork stuffed glutinous rice (鮮肉粽), which just means I'm going to order it again when I'm back. And of course, DTF is pricey. The price tag obviously is after the wonderful quality of the food, but it also means the staff manners and ambiance are above par from the average Shanghainese spot in HK. This place is 4.5 stars, rounded up for pleasant experiences each time. ________ (#1) Errr.... I mean "Siu Lung Bau"

The veggies were cooked so perfectly. Black truffle soup dumplings were good too. Taro soup dessert.

Black truffle Xiao long bao?!?!!!! WHAT?! ............. four stars from me + one Michelin star. Oh and get an order of the veggies because they are cooked absolutely PERFECTLY.

Dan dan noodles - highly recommend!
    Chris J.

We came hungry and ordered a lot of food for two people. We got: -Steamed pork dumplings -Dan dan noodles -Beef braised noodle soup -Deep fried chicken with sweet and sour chili -Spinach dish The outstanding dish was dan dan noodles. I haven't had a lot of dan dan noodles before so I might not know better but for me, this was amazing! The other dishes were okay. Portions were not too big so we were able to finish eating all five dishes that we had ordered. The service was very fast and efficient. Multiple waiters and waitresses kept bringing dishes out of the kitchen and checking off dishes delivered on a piece of paper that they kept under our table.

All the other Din Tai Fung visits have been in the United States for me. First time outside the U.S. Did not disappoint. Same great quality if not better. Had the shrimp fried rice, chicken broth, garlic spinach, spicy won ton, and Shanghai dumplings. Everything was fantastic and flavorful. The service is excellent, better than in the U.S. They make sure your tea cup is never empty and always ready to serve you. I initially gave 4 stars but changed to 5 after reconsidering the service, ambiance and food quality.

I have been to original Din Tai Fung in Taipei, so I was anxious to try it in Hong Kong. There are several locations in Hong Kong, but this one is superb! Though located inside a mall, it's tucked away on a 4th floor corner, so there's more privacy than the feel of being watched my shopping spectators. Food: *Pork soup dumplings *String beans with minced pork *Pan fried dumplings *Vegetable and pork dumplings tossed in special sauce Service: Impeccable! Each server or runner has designated tasks. Each table will have an assigned head waiter that will be the primary person to serve you food and pour you the delicious oolong tea! My several dining experiences at this location have been incredible and I will definitely return and recommend it to others.

    Braised beef noodle soup

Having been to Din Tai Fung in Los Angeles, I was expecting a long wait to be seated. Glad to say at this particular location we were seated immediately! I actually visited this location twice, for a late dinner flying in from Manila, and another time at lunch on a weekday. Both times I had their soup dumplings, or Xiao Long Bao. They are famous for these, and for good reason! The broth is flavorful without being too fatty or salty inside, and there are even directions table side on how to properly enjoy the dumplings. I also had their braised beef noodle soup. It was a bit on the spicy side but the tenderness of the beef in the soup is something I'll never forget. It literally melted in my mouth. I highly recommend it if you're looking for something warm and filling. Only gripe was that the hot tea wasn't complimentary, and they did not mention that to us. Don't get me wrong, it was great and worth what we ended up paying (about 8 HKD/person) but I wish they'd let you know.

Sportful Garden (what kind of a name is that?) does a pretty good job, creating new dishes as well as refreshing the staples, like the super long spring rolls. If you can hang on for a little bit and come in after two, you get the happy hour price which is 40% off many dishes plus some staple dim sum dishes for HK$14-18 (like, US$2). Early birds before noon gets a discount too. They also have roasted pigeon for $33 (US$4) each, and even provide gloves for you to enjoy with your hands. While I very much want to order the super-instagram-worthy birdcage dim sum set (I've taken a pic of the menu if not the real thing), my sensible mom insisted that we order from the discounted menu. I managed to get the piggies though (with purple yam filling). I simply have a weakness for ordering things so cute I suffer a pang of guilt eating them. My favorite is the sponge cake, so light yet creamy, but all dishes, including the noodles, are delicious.

Situated at the very top of the isquare mall in TST, it's a convenient location both for Kowloon and HK siders. The restaurant itself is a beautifully bright space with amazing panoramic views. It's quite modern/upscale and would be a good place to go for work lunches etc but you won't get any nasty looks rocking up in shorts/tshirts etc... (i went there in gym gear). The food...wow. I thought after 30+ years of eating chinese food i'd pretty much seen every iteration of a spring roll. I was mistaken. Granted it's hard to make the case for a spring roll to be the standout dish at yum cha but i've never seen them done like this (pictures attached). Each one is about 20cm long and stuffed with juicy fresh shrimp. I have it on good authority that they are also a massive crowd pleaser for kids too. Other than that, every dish was equally superb and fresh. All the usual suspects (har gao, siu mai, lo bak gou, char siu sou) were top notch; fresh, juicy, thin skins. The lo mai gai was another standout - not the usual stodgy, dense, overly sticky lump; rather it was surprisingly light and the meat didn't taste at all congealed, with just enough glutinous-ness to make the rice sit neatly. And the crispy pork cubes...oh the crispy pork cubes. I'd been craving these for over a year since the only offerings to be found in NY are better described as lumps of soggy fat with a micro film of crispy skin and occasionally a bit of pork. All in all an amazing feed. Adding it to the list of regular places to hit in HK.

There is a stage and so much room that it seems like the appropriate spot to have a banquet or wedding. It is one of those large Chinese restaurants that serves a lot of people and thus the soft goods (carpet, chairs, linens, etc) seem warn and need updating. Although I did not do the ordering and did not pay the bill, in addition to special orders of hairy crabs at an additional cost, we had a set dinner with like 7 courses for around $400HKD (which seemed like a great value, knowing all the delicious food we had). The set included their highlighted dish of Braised Whole Japanese Oma Abalone, in addition to marinated sea cucumbers, shrimp, sticky rice, a great soup with bean curd on top and although small and at the very end, a seasame rice ball that was really spectacular & a party in your mouth. Found in 1998, Star of Canton insists the tradition of the canton dishes with less oil, less salt, no MSG and no artificial colour. I like that and it is a niche in a sea of Chinese restaurant options. We had a good experience and liked the ambiance of the place, so we would reccomend and absolutely go back.

Getting to try it in Hong Kong, the home of Dimsum, I thought this was going to be a 10/10. Yeah, not quite. The wrapping of each dishes were thicker than most places, so that was already offputting. Moments like the captain carving the Peking Duck by our tableside; a team of servers bringing individual servings of King Crab Meat Sweet and Sour Soup to us; and a team bringing individual servings of desserts, were truly impressive!  It was fun that all those bowls came covered and were opened at about the same time. The food was phenomenal!  I have been craving for the crispy skins of the Suckling Pig, Peking Duck, and Crispy Tea Chicken since we left Spring Moon!  Those were so light, thin, and crispy... a true delight to enjoy!  The Pan-seared Star Garoupa(Grouper) was also memorable!  It had a light batter that had a nice crunch, the Grouper meat inside was so fresh, tasty, smooth, and cooked to perfection!  The Steamed Crab Claw with Egg White (although a bit pricey at HK$428 per person) that we got 9 orders of was a must try!  The Crab Claw was so big and plump, the meat fresh and flavorful, and the steamed egg white was smooth and tasty!  This dish really impressed everyone!  The only dish that I did not try was the Garlic Broccoli.  Why?  I have to save some room for dessert!  So, it was either broccoli or Baked Sago Pudding with Chestnut Paste, which is a labor-intensive yummy dessert that not too many restaurants have chefs that could/would make nowadays!  The pudding was so good, it had the right amount of sweetness, and the chestnut paste in the middle was creamy and tasty!   I already wish to have the above dishes again when I go to Hong Kong next time!  Actually, the whole dinner was a delight! The other dishes Crispy Bean Curd Rolls with Carrots and Black Mushrooms, Cold Jellyfish with Dark Vinegar, Signature Fried Rice, Vermicelli with Crab Meat all worth an honorary mention!  And we even got complimentary desserts!  Each person got a bite size piece of mango pudding cake, and an almond cookie, that was so crispy and fluffy and smelled so good! The Spring Moon is famous for its vast variety of tea.  We ordered Jasmin and Oolong to go with our dishes.  Each guest picked one of the two, that paired with the Cantonese food well. All in all, the dinner at Spring Moon was worth the money!  We were all stuffed with good food!  Everyone was happy and we, as hosts, were proud as well!
