shots on the house
Sally l.

This was my go to lunch spot when I worked at the college, was great to have it again. Their tradition did not change- always ending our lunch with a shot on the house The food is always perfectly seasoned - IMO. They're so quick, especially during the lunch rush. Love that they're always attentive. The bartender realized that my friend is Muslim and gave her a shot of sprite instead! Definitely miss this place and can't wait to return again!

Shrimp tacos

Zona is my Mexican "go to" in my neighborhood. The food is delish and a good value for Tribeca- great steak salad, quesadillas, wings, burritos and tacos- the tempura shrimp tacos are fantastic and Jimmy makes a mean skinny Cadillac margarita. But the people are what keeps me coming back- every single person who works there is a warm wonderful human and they treat you like family!! Jimmy, Vi, Magda, Claudia, German, Carlos, Guasco--the list goes on. Treat yourself to a great night out!

Chips and Salsa and a small marg on the rocks
Chris D.

Staff were lovely, accommodating and the really on their game. Chips and salsa and water were dropped off immediately after I sat down (and the chips were nice and warm). Marg was ok, maybe a little too much sour mix for me, but it was a nice pit stop walking around the city all afternoon.

Drinks are fabulous. Some food is spectacular but some like nachos can use some improvement. Shrimp tacos...awesome!

3 Pollo Asado Taco

The food is great but the service is fantastic! I didn't get our waiter's name but he was so friendly and attentive. Free chips and salsa to start off the meal, and I got pollo asado tacos. They're pretty decent, nothing special but I loved the atmosphere and it was a great meal overall!

Vegetable Quesadilla

we had a group of 9 and the service was quick for a large group. I got a Passion Fruit Frozen Marg and Veggie Quesadilla - both came out fairly quickly. I liked that the margaritas came in two different sizes (I chose the smaller one while the large is 20oz). However, the food didn't impress me which is why I am giving a 4 star. The bathroom is in the basement and can be more well lit.

Red Sangria

On a Wednesday evening hanging out in NYC, I came here with my girlfriend and a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. We made reservations in advance and got a nice big table in the back room of the restaurant, which I really liked. We all started out ordering some drinks. I tried the red sangria as well as a passion fruit margarita. The sangria was pretty good, but the Margarita was excellent. I enjoyed this flavor one specifically, but others at our table ordered different margarita flavors, too, and they all enjoyed them as well. After chatting with the group for a while, we then ordered our meals. My girlfriend and I split the steak fajitas and carnitas quesadilla. I loved the steak fajitas, as the steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The carnotas quesadilla was just average to me. Maybe it was the pork I didn't care for. Others ordered the steak quesadilla, and I tried a piece of that one too, and enjoyed that way more than mine. So, in my opinion, get a steak dish here, as you won't be disappointed. Overall, we had a fun night out and enjoyed this place!

Date night with my partner!

Not a memorable stop for a pre dinner beverage. Okay service. Vibe was good. My partner said the food is good. Two weak margs $40. Tribeca living.

Really nice location and a big space indoors and outdoors. The food is subpar. It wasn't that crowded when my husband and I arrived. We sat "outdoors." They invested into a cool heating system for the outdoor area. We got chips and salsa and absolutely devoured it because we were starving. We ordered the 12 tacos thinking they were the regular size tacos we usually get anywhere we go. The cost for 12 tacos was $60 ($5 a taco). We were able to choose up to 4 types of tacos but we chose 3. Initially I told our waitress we wanted shrimp and fish in which she replied "ok, 6 and 6" then my husband added that he wanted the Al pastor too. So 12 divided by 3 different tacos would mean we would receive 4 shrimp tacos, 4 fish tacos and 4 al pastor tacos but we received 3 shrimp, 3 fish and 6 al pastor. We were so hungry we didn't complain and what would they have done? Didn't want to waste our food. These tacos were mini tacos...1 shrimp on each of the 3 tacos we received. Overall, Zona Tribeca's portions are extremely small but luckily there are many other restaurants in the surround area.

Don't typically think of Zona Tribeca for lunch takeout but gave them a try and had a Shrimp Quesadilla (via Seamless) and it was solid

Tortillas are made to order right in front of you, and the whole experience just feels authentic and joyful. I had the steak and pork tacos, my friend got chicken -- we went back for a second round. That says everything. A few tips for first-timers: -- Don't sleep on the quesadillas. Seriously. -- If you like crispy tortillas, order the tostada -- they deep fry it and the result is incredible. -- Get the Horchata. It's not overly sweet and pairs perfectly with the tacos. The staff is 10/10 friendly and efficient. Don't be intimidated by the line -- it moves fast. Case in point: on a rainy morning, there was already a line at 11:01 AM (the place opens at 11). People know what they're doing here. The atmosphere is relaxed. They have nice, authentic music playing at all times. Highly, highly recommend.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

The birria tacos were really good (or so my son said) but sadly the taquitos were terrible. They literally just had unseasoned shredded chicken (but serves me right for ordering something so basic). The energy was flat, and that lack of enthusiasm carried right into the food. The menu needs a complete overhaul. I'm not sure if it's trying to be "different," but the taco options were unappealing just from reading the descriptions. I managed to choose the two best-sounding items I could find, and honestly, they were so bland I don't even remember what they were. The setup and decor were basic. This spot could be a fun hangout, but it would take a better menu and staff who actually seem to care. It feels like just another restaurant that's lost sight of creating an actual experience for guests. The lack of vibe is obvious--if you don't want customers, just say so. I'm giving 2 stars out of respect for the fact that people have to work for a living.

Although I had a reservation, I was instructed to go to the bar. Literally no home at the bar whatsoever. Granted I know Mexican restaurants tend to be super crowded for Cinco de Mayo but I was a party of one. I should have been seated outside at the very least. I had to drink my frozen Patron Margarita standing up until a space at the bar open up after 20-25 minutes. Once seated, my area wasn't properly cleaned. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I reluctantly ordered fish tacos with mild guacamole but was given spicy guacamole. The fish tacos were a little cold. The service was rushed. I left without ordering another drink or more food. Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.
