Good food, limited quantity! After having a small stroke at the prices, which are fairly high for Mexican food, I made my order. About 5 minutes later, the waiter came back telling me that they were out of two of the meats for our order, and to order something different. Now, if this had been due to a mid-day rush, I could see that, but I arrived about 45 minutes after they opened and they should have been able to inform their staff. My second choice was really good, though nothing super special. There was plenty of seating and I didn't feel crowded, which was nice for NYC, since so many places work effectively out of closets. In fairness to this restaurant, it was Cinco de mayo and the place was packed when I arrived around 1PM on a weekday. I was off for the day and just finished shopping in the area. When I arrived there was a 30 minutes wait and there were two parties in front of me. It happened to be a beautiful sunny day and most of us wanted to sit outside. The servers coordinating the tables did an amazing job making more space for customers and trying to move the lines. However, things went south once I sat down and ordered my food and drink. Apparently, they had a special Cinco de mayo menu which was limited food items. I ordered a mango margarita that came quick. It was delicious but I didn't want to drink the entire drink on an empty stomach. I also ordered the "esquite-street corn" and two beef birria tacos. I waited over an hour for my food and was frustrated and "hangry-hungry and angry, LOL. There were several customers who were also waiting a long time. I asked my waiter what was going on and he seemed annoyed that I was questioning him. strike freaking one. I was just about to pay for my drink and leave. However, the manager, Danny arrived and explained there was an issue in the kitchen. He was very apologetic and comped my drink and gave me a coupon for a complimentary drink on my next visit. I was thankful but just wanted my grub, lol. The food finally came and it was just okay. My street corn was so bland and tasted like regular corn I make at home. The tacos were just okay, they were missing some seasonings. Overall, if I'm in the area I would check this spot out again for their regular menu but NOT during a holiday. LOL read more

I stopped in here for some cocktails and the vibes. I sat at the bar, though they offered me to sit anywhere I wanted. The bar seating is actually pretty comfortable, even for someone like me with short legs. I had the: un misterio dulce: mezcal, aperol, caramazlied pineapple. This one was light, fruity (but not too sweet), and refreshing. El padrino: bourbon and anejo, and granadina, with fresh orange. A little darker, moodier, still very good. Tepachito: tequila, tepache, agave. Also a little fruity number that was easy to drink. And the margarita. I thought this place would have a great margarita based on all the other dynamite drinks I had, but I'm pretty sure they just pour it out of a well. No thanks, won't try that one again and you should pass too. I sat there long enough that I became hungry, so I did get the fish tacos (flour tortilla) and the server recommended birria. The fish was fried, but light and brightened by the tangy slaw. The birria was rich and moist. I almost went with the mushroom quesadilla and I still wonder how that would've tasted! I'd say drinks are a strong suit of Anejo. And maybe if you're drunk enough then the food starts to taste okay. They also make great mocktails for the non drinkers. My carne asada plate was was very disappointing and I couldn't stomach the whole plate. The guac was okay but I do like that they constantly refill the chips. I wanted to give this place five stars but unfortunately the service caused it to lose two stars. My best friend and I visited on a Saturday evening with a 6 PM reservation and we're seated promptly. The venue was loud and beautifully decorated in Christmas decor. Everything started off well and we ordered appetizers. The waiter did not bring my friends drink, but perhaps he didn't hear it because the venue was so loud so we asked for it at a later time. After submitting our orders, we enjoyed the guacamole and salsa sampler and received many refills for the tortilla chips. The chicken dish that my friend ordered took quite a while, but we realized something was wrong when the people who were seated after us received their food first, as well as other patrons who came long after us. My friend and I were tired of eating chips and guacamole, and were waiting for about an hour until our food came. We actually had to complain to a manager who quickly rectified the situation. Benny, the manager was very apologetic and compensated to ensure that the rest of our evening went smoothly. He brought us appetizers to munch on and complementary drinks. When the food came, it was delicious but not worth the 90 minute wait. My friend and I appreciated the manager's service and we felt much better once we got food. Our server reappeared after an hour and mentioned being on a break, which we both thought was unacceptable. I would return to this venue with the hope that the service would be much better because every food dish that we ate was simply delicious, as well as the drinks. There just needs to be better communication amongst the service staff to prevent hiccups like this from happening again. read more

We got here just in time for happy hour. It was pretty busy but we were able to get in an order for happy hour just in time. The drinks and food were very tasty. The octopus ceviche was incredible! It was not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised by all of the flavors. Lamb tacos were tender and delicious as well. The server truly dictates the experience here, and this last visit was a perfect example of that. I've been to this location several times and have had very mixed experiences depending on who my server was. During my previous visit, our server was attentive and made my boyfriend's first experience a great one, which is why I felt confident bringing two friends here for their first visit. We did the bottomless brunch and had Alma as our server. While taking our food order, she forgot a side dish I requested. The restaurant was not busy, but I let it go because mistakes happen and I was already full from my fish tacos. The larger issue was the bottomless service. When you pay for a bottomless brunch, you expect your server to check in periodically to refill drinks or ask if you'd like to switch your selection. Alma only came by our table twice (keep in mind brunch is 90 minutes). During the second check-in, I requested that my next drink be a Bloody Mary, and she confirmed the order. However, she never returned with the drink or checked back on our table. We waited some time and even discussed ordering a plate of French toast. By the time we were able to locate her and ask for another round of drinks, she informed us that our bottomless time had ended. She then explained there were no more Bloody Marys available because brunch was over, despite the fact that I had ordered mine well before our allotted time ended and had been waiting for her to bring it. I explained that my disappointment was not about trying to get additional drinks after the time limit, but rather that we had lost the opportunity to order our final round because we could not find our server. Since the delay was due to her absence, I asked if she could make an exception and bring the table one last round of margaritas so my two friends--who were experiencing this restaurant for the first time--could also enjoy the bottomless experience we had paid for. Unfortunately she only brought me a single margarita because I had requested the Bloody Mary earlier, leaving me as the only person at the table with a drink. It was an uncomfortable situation and a disappointing way to end what should have been an enjoyable group brunch. To make matters worse, after the checks were brought out, no one came back to collect payment. We eventually got up and paid at the counter assuming her shift had ended. During payment my friend selected the "thumbs down" option when asked to rate her experience. When it was my turn, I attempted to do the same, but the employee processing my transaction immediately selected "Skip" past the feedback screen before I had a chance to select my response. I didn't realize what had happened until after we had left, but it felt like an attempt to avoid receiving additional negative feedback. It's disappointing because this is a restaurant I have enjoyed in the past and one I hoped my friends would add to our regular brunch rotation. Wow this place is amazing! The food is so fresh and authentically made. We had their margaritas and they were absolutely delicious. The tacos were amazing- just thin tortilla, meats, and a light garnish. We tried their fish tacos, chicken al pastor tacos, and their lamb tacos. We ended up getting a 2nd order of their lamb tacos because that's how good they were. The service was amazing. We had our 8 month old with us and they gave us a high chair and made sure we were comfortable. As any child, he did have some small outbursts but we didn't feel rushed, awkward, and they reassured us to enjoy our meals and to not worry. The ambience is chic! Ivan, the general manager, provided an amazing experience. I can't tell you enough what a great person he is. After traveling all day from California, we arrived late on a Friday night. At 11:07 pm, I called the restaurant to find out what time the kitchen closed. Ivan said it closed 7 minutes ago at 11:00. But he said that if I got there in 10 minutes, he could ask the guys in the kitchen if they can accommodate us. I told him that we were staying at the M Social Hotel and that I had to get an Uber and didn't know if I could get there that fast. He invited me to come anyways and to ask for him. The kitchen was closed for 20 minutes when we arrived at nearly 11:30 pm. When we arrived, Ivan welcomed us like we were his family. We were offered the full menu and were not rushed to order. They made us feel like they were not closing. It was as if they were just opening and they were very nice. The server asked me if I was interested in an alcoholic drink, but for health reasons I told him I could not drink. The next thing you know, Ivan shows up with a shot in his hands. He overheard that I don't drink, so he came over with a specially imported tequila. It has no alcohol. It's exclusive to the restaurant and you can't get it anywhere else law in the City. Ivan went out of his way to get me a special drink when I was content with just water. After I tasted the tequila, he made me a margarita with that tequila. This place is very high end and classy. It gets an A for ambiance. And the food is absolutely delicious. I swear, the chicken tacos may have been the best tacos I've ever had. And that's saying something since I'm from Los Angeles. When I first heard the kitchen closed 7 minutes ago, I thought I was going to starve or have to go to some late night dive. But I ended up having an extraordinary night. I heard good things about this place and decided to try it out during happy hour times. First impressions, they definitely needed more lower top tables. Most of the seating were high tops and I'm not a fan of them. The host/manager/waiter was absolutely amazing each and every one of them. I've honestly never been to a restaurant with workers there that were just so happy, and just felt they're genuine energy. I loved it so much and I was extremely impressed. For an appetizer, we had the guacamole with pork rinds, tasted like any regular guac with pork rinds. It was good, but not amazing. For Andres, my friend, and I had the steak along with the Yuuka fries, still very good, but not out of this world. For the dessert we had some flan, it was a bit dense in my eyes, and I thought the cheese topping was weird, but it was recommended and we went with it. The best parts of the meal were the drinks. I miss the old menu so much. The biscuits and chorizo gravy was my go to. I also loved the unlimited French toast and chips and guacamole, which they got rid of. The food is still good, my husband loved the grits. But I was very disappointed with the Huevos Rancheros, which was on the old menu but done completely different, missing its potato's and side salad but still pricey. I had a really lovely experience today at Anejo and I'll certainly be back! They have a lunch special for $16 which I think is a great bang for your buck, as the portion is the perfect lunchtime meal. The Salsa Quattro is a free app you can get for checking in on yelp -- what an awesome idea to offer it!! It started our meal off on the right foot. The chips were perfectly crunchy and salted and tasted homemade, and the variety of salsas were delish. We all got the lunch special, with my two friends getting the fish tacos (which come with rice and beans and salsas) and I got the braised beef burrito. Let me just say: YUM! Everything was flavorful, well balanced, and filling. The braised beef/barbacoa vibe was tender and juicy and they put a hefty portion of it in the burrito. I'd highly recommend trying it. For dessert we tried the flan which was super creamy and not too sweet. We asked and apparently it's homemade!! I liked the little sprinkle of cotija cheese on top, but kinda wish it came on the side instead of on top, because some folks at the table liked it more than others. Otherwise, solid dessert option. Came for a tasting with a friend of mine and the experience was amazing! I've visited their Philly location and so I already knew what type of vibe to expect and boy did they deliver. It was around lunchtime so it wasn't jammed packed however there were a few to go orders placed, a family casually celebrating a wedding and a group of tourists looking to take a break from the heat. To summarize, we had the chicken quesadilla, the tostadas, veggie tacos (not my fave because of the mushrooms but was still very flavorful), shrimp empanadas, the salsa quattro with chips and guac, a margarita flight, some octopus and finished off with the tequila flan. Everything was delicious and well plated so I literally can't wait to come back. This place gets very busy; even though we had a reservations, we still had to wait around for another 15 minutes before a table could open up. Our wait staff were very accommodating (if you're going with someone who doesn't drink, they can pay $35 for the deal) and our drinks never hit below half-way. The French toast and guac were very tasty and for my entrée, I went with the shrimp and grits and oh wow. What a serving. Very delicious and very generous portion sizing. Anejo was a quick find on a cold rainy day but I am so lucky we found it! The service was amazing and our server was super helpful in picking the right dishes without upselling us. We got a mix of dishes to share, the absolute star of the show was the chicken empanada dish! The empanadas were absolutely delicious with a juicy flavorful filling and a yummy green sauce. We sat in the speakeasy and shared a table with some lovely ladies. Appetizer was chips with guacamole and four different dipping sauces, which were all good; guacamole was tasty as well. The first drink was the "El hungry post," with pineapple, which was good. Second was the "Neat pour," which was a shot, and I must say very strong as it was Don Julio repesado. The second tasting served was Cherizo and potatoes flauta; i didn't really taste much chorizo, but it wasn't bad. Third tasting: shrimp empanadas, and they were good but not too much shrimp. I added a little spiced orange sauce, and it brought out the flavor. Fourth tasting: Chicken tacos were good. The crispy cauliflower tacos took it home with that pineapple-arbol glaze it was very flavorful, and cauliflower was crispy; really good. Crispy fish tacos were ok, a little bland. The desert was tasty. All of the drinks were made using Don Julio Primavera, and they were all good. It's very smooth and can mix well. It's not too harsh but very strong. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves, and they even gave us tote bags to take home. I would go back to try the menu. read more
