Better picture of tamal from their website
Fawn G.

I'm always in the mood for a good taco, however, finding authentic Mexican made tacos is a bit complex. The places one thinks are good like Tacombi fall short on authenticity. In Brooklyn, Gueros comes pretty close. One of the most outstanding tacos I've eaten, believe it or not, was in Portugal at Tikki Taco. A euro buys one the most delicious taco. I was searching for a taqueria that came close to Portugal. Well, I think I'm close...I stumbled upon Sullivan Taqueria walking back from a recent lunch. I Yelped it and decided it was time to give it a try. Sullivan is a small establishment with a beautiful painted mural on its wall. The menu is simple, tacos filled with either fish, beef, vegetables or chicken. You can also choose burrito bowls, quesadillas and tamales. I was really hungry due to a breakfast of coffee and coffee.. I ordered a chicken mole taco, a tamale with cheese and tomato filling and a horchata. One places order and finds a seat and waits for order to be served to you. I found a table and my horchata was served first. This delicious creamy, velvety milk drink laced with cinnamon could also be considered a dessert. Then my chicken mole taco and tamales came together. The tamale was good but needed a kick but the chicken mole taco was delicious with spicy ( chiles) and bittersweet undertones. The taco is a bit small thus, I decided to try more. I ordered 2 vegetarian tacos and since it was Taco Tuesday I got a free taco ( buy 3 get 4th free). Now, here was my kind of taco: cilantro, tomato, onions, black beans avocado and a little queso. I took the 2nd home and my free chicken mole taco I gave to one of my employees. The sauces are quite good: salsa verde and the red sauce are dynamite and just the right spice. Tacos range from $4.50 each as well as tamales. All that is left to say is Sullivan Taqueria es mi hogar lejos de casa.

Horchata and Chips/Guac - horchata was so good

No frills taqueria on a quiet street near Soho. It's a pretty small restaurant but there's additional seating at an outdoor shed. Chips and guac were solid but the horchata was deliciously sweet and enjoyable. We ordered the Barbacoa, Carne Asada and Pescado tacos and enjoyed them all. We also got the Birria Quesadilla and that was also quite good. Would definitely return again!

There were only a few tables inside, and it was mostly a casual spot for picking up takeout. It was a busy weekend, but they reserved a table for us after we called. The burrito bowls were good, and the guacamole was homemade.

Hope management sees this, The food is not bad, the taste is better than chipotle imo, my chicken bowl was almost 15$ after adding guac. BUT... the portion is REALLY small, the bowl you guys used is very small and thin, when i saw the server pick up the empty bowl, i already regret coming in. Its like 3-4 bites of rice, and a tiny bit of everything else. And the food only fill half of the bowl. The rice and beans alone from chipotle is more filling than this lunch, i will not be returning, the food is great, but for 15$, there are way better options in soho. If management dont lower the price to 10, or increase the portion size, this store wont last very long.

Got the chicken quesadilla for $8 on a lunch break, this place is fast and so good! Comes with fresh pico and guac, and the oaxaca cheese is a perfect touch. There are even tables to sit down and eat outside, highly recommend

Sullivan Taqueria is a cute whole in the wall taco spot. Although the building is small, the food's flavor is huge. They offer tacos, burrito bowls, quesadillas, and apps. My friend and I both ordered fish tacos and split some guac. You can't go to a taco spot without ordering guac- I don't make the rules. The guacamole was extremely fresh and came with homemade chips. These chips were thicker than your average tortilla chip and salted to perfection. I could eat a whole bag of them by themselves, no problem. Our tacos were also delicious and the perfect size. We'll be back again for sure.

Sullivan Taqueria is open now! Get authentic Mexican tacos & drinks here. I especially love that the tortillas are handmade fresh. PRICE: $3.75-$4 (note that cilantro and onions are included, and premium toppings like cheese & guac are $0.75+ each) SEATING: Indoor & Outdoor available MY ORDER: Chicken Mole taco & house made Horchata, the perfect afternoon snack Stop by and support - I will be back!

Service is a but slow and the portion size of the chips and guac was a bit disappointing but the fish burrito was really yummy! Enjoyed their red sangria as well

I moved to NYC from California and have to tell you it's surprisingly hard to find a good authentic taco place in Manhattan. Great Dominican, Puerto Rican, no problem but not many great Mexicans Sullivan's is delicious - tacos are amazing and everything is super fresh

Food was super delicious! The register person was super nice and we loved the outdoor seating area!

Terrible tacos! This place is the worse!! They charge $5 for these and look at the amount. Very disappointing

Tried chicken mole burrito. No tortilla. Tasty except lack of mole sauce. Balanced plate, but portions are a bit small. Nice people.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

The birria tacos were really good (or so my son said) but sadly the taquitos were terrible. They literally just had unseasoned shredded chicken (but serves me right for ordering something so basic). The salsa also tasted more like tomato paste than actual salsa. But again, the goal for this stop was a frozen marg(s) and that mission was accomplished and then were good . The energy was flat, and that lack of enthusiasm carried right into the food. The menu needs a complete overhaul. I'm not sure if it's trying to be "different," but the taco options were unappealing just from reading the descriptions. I managed to choose the two best-sounding items I could find, and honestly, they were so bland I don't even remember what they were. The setup and decor were basic. This spot could be a fun hangout, but it would take a better menu and staff who actually seem to care. It feels like just another restaurant that's lost sight of creating an actual experience for guests. The lack of vibe is obvious--if you don't want customers, just say so. I'm giving 2 stars out of respect for the fact that people have to work for a living.

Although I had a reservation, I was instructed to go to the bar. Literally no home at the bar whatsoever. Granted I know Mexican restaurants tend to be super crowded for Cinco de Mayo but I was a party of one. I should have been seated outside at the very least. I had to drink my frozen Patron Margarita standing up until a space at the bar open up after 20-25 minutes. Once seated, my area wasn't properly cleaned. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I reluctantly ordered fish tacos with mild guacamole but was given spicy guacamole. The fish tacos were a little cold. The service was rushed. I left without ordering another drink or more food. I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.
